    From Australia, I own a 2004 Toyota Corolla Sportivo ( I think they're equivalent to the Toyota or Chevy Matrix you guys have over there) Been wanting to do a tear down of my own. You have given me some invaluable insight. ty.

    Hope it worked out well. I have a 2 ZZ GE with 184 000 on it. Got to pull engine to change timing cover as it has a slight crack in it and dripping oil. Thought it might be the common tensioner o ring issue but found out since then it's timing cover and damaged gasket.

      My mechanic did it without pulling the engine out but had it resting on a floor hack and car on hoist... Somehow he got the timing cover gasket and o ring replaced..

    Pull out the pistons, make sure under the rings isn't full of gunge, there should be oil return holes make sure they're clear as this can cause a lot of trouble, it's common in the early zz engines but was revised in late 2004 and onwards zz engines

      In the next video, I ended up re-assembling the engine, I installed new pistons & wrist pins.

    Hey you said you spun a rod bearing. Did it sound like a consistent Knock? And of so what damage can it do if driven on too long and is the engine block salvageable?

    • @corbinxtitus
      @corbinxtitus  3 роки тому

      It sounded like a horrible chriping. Not like rodknock. Most 2ZZs usually sound like that when they get rodknock, a knocking sound, chriping, and squealing from metal on metal contact. Unfortunately the only thing salvageable from rodknock on these engines is the head, pistons and rods (if properly cleaned!). The crankshaft and all the bearings will need replacing. You could have the crankshaft machined, but I don't recommend it.

    Hello friend, I see that you are a lover of that engine. I write to you from Paraguay. I have a diesel sound in revolutions from 1500 to 1800. Passing those revolutions, it is silent. What suggestion do you give me? The engine is repaired from 0 in high gear. in low it looks like a diesel and hinders a lot of normal oil maintenance with liquid moly synthetic oil at the moment that regulates very well without any noise what is not yet changed are the lift bolt

    • @corbinxtitus
      @corbinxtitus  4 роки тому

      It's okay! It is normal for these cars to sound like diesels! Clean both VVT filters on the engine and see if it gets better. The diesel noise is okay though. It's perfectly normal.

    There is a wire on the power steering pump kinda close to the oil ring what would you call that? I ended up snapping it when I pulled off the power steering. Could you tell me I need to go buy a new one!

    • @corbinxtitus

      Which wire? If you're looking down into the engine bay is it directly on top of the power steering pump? Connecting to the same wiring as the coil packs?
