Sadly a lot of people criticise AMS2 because of what it was like on release without giving it another go since all the improvements. AMS2 has evolved so much Its my goto sim for pure driving pleasure. And things will just keep getting better and better. I'm so glad I stuck with this game.
Hey Scott buddy - I think that’s true to an extent, but I think it’s probably also fair to say it took a while for some of the particular issues on car handling to start heading in the right direction. Understandable I’d say given the context, but no doubt frustrating for some. I’ve popped back in monthly for a year or so now, and it wasn’t until the last couple of updates that things started to really click for me - so like you, I’m v happy I kept trying!
AMS2 has the best sense of speed especially in VR! If I play AMS2 for 30 minutes and then jump into RF2, RF2 feels like I’m in slow motion mode and it takes a little while to adapt to its slower sense of speed. I’m really loving AMS2 now and glad the you tubers who correctly trashed it up to the end of summer this year are now promoting it and giving it the credit it now deserves! Great sim, it’s now in my daily rotation and also now a must buy sim.
Hey James - cheers for stopping by buddy, and for encouraging me to stick with AMS2 over the last few months! I find it is a very nice addition to the mix of sims I play - a very different but no less enjoyable accompaniment to RaceRoom or ACC.
I loved how you phrased your last point, and its exactly why Asm2 is my favorite sim right now. I cant get other games to immerse me like Ams2 does, nailing laps in classic F1 cars or Group C is just so rewarding.
Hi Ben. Really nice review of this fun simulator. Because that’s what it is, just really fun and gorgeous looking also, especially in VR. Have been enjoying the sim from the beginning and learned working around the physics quirks. It’s just the best “hop in and have fun” sim out there. Every sim has his up -and down sides, adapting to them(instead of complaining about it) only makes you a better driver. But it does feel way better now, that’s for sure!. The sim needs reviews like this, it deserves its place among the others. Now more people will hop in and the online part of AMS2 will come more alive. Thanks I subbed!
Thanks buddy - appreciate that! I’m definitely racing more online in AMS2 than I ever have before, and finding the standard of the racing to be largely great!
This works really well in VR and its nice to get away from public severs and the punters for a bit. Love how ACC drives but the graphics in this sim are best for VR. I don't have a screen so needs must. Cheers Ben. I bought this because of you. Keep up the good work, :)
Ah thanks for the feedback Chris - appreciate that mate. Yeah I’ve never had the pleasure of VR on it. Will look to try and sort that out in 2022 as it sounds fantastic!
Hey Ben, great video! Unfortunately I still don't feel too comfortable driving AMS2, though I love a lot of aspects of the sim. Whenever I go back to R3E, I feel at home immediately. But that is probably because I am just to used to it. I have the same feeling with AC, not at home. I will go on and drive AMS2 here and there, because it seems to have so much potential. VR performance, graphics, content, super easy multiplayer setup, weather etc. I really like how you focus on the positive sides of the sim in this series! Looking forward to the next episodes. : )
Cheers TJ buddy - yeah I still feel at home in RaceRoom too I must say, although the latest ACC update has made a huge difference to how comfortable I feel racing in that. RaceRoom is up next in the series so look out for that!
I came from raceroom and bought this a few days ago. First feeling was that it drives differently, but not worse. I love the ability to set up your own servers. I play VR and this is just amazing but the menus could be a bit better. I like for example how R3E remembers the tyre temps and you can adjust your camber after a few laps. Other than that, i think it's very promising and i am definitely willing to make ams2 my primary sim. We just need more players so the ranking becomes more efficiënt.
Nice video. Im a big fan from the start and ams2 really delivers every update. Im happy we just started a league in this and there is so much more to come for this title im sure. It is my goto sim everytime i switch on my pc.
Hey Mike - you stream on twitch right? I think a while back I joined one of your community races at Watkins Glen in the GT1s. Forgive me if that wasn't you! 🤣 Cheers for stopping by either way buddy!
From someone that has yet to try AMS2 your review is measuring expectation well given RR is so much fun. It certainly looks dam good if nothing else ....
Hey Nij - well what I’d say is R3E still takes top spot for me, and AMS2 feels quite different. But I guess I get a different kind of enjoyment out of it too - it’s a lot more forgiving, so you can have a bit more “fun” and push a bit more.
I agree, online is nice too. Just hop in and have a go. The safety rating and points system deliver aswell. Had a really clean race yesterday. Still glowing!!
I am downloading a demo of this game to give it a go. Was soo disapointed with iRacing after buying and then finding out not one single button on the g920 steering wheel worked for menus. I sure hope these guys got VR sim proper.
I have managed to run AMS2 on my good i7 laptop with very low settings and I have been enjoying it a lot. It's been 3 weeks and I don't feel like playing GT7 at despite the beautiful graphics! I'm trying to build an EGPU for the laptop for improving resolution and so. I wish I had tried before buying my PS5, which I love ofc. But things would have turn out differently for sure 😅
great graphics, but in my opinion the physics, handling and FFB are better in AMS1; so the graphics of AMS2 and the rest from AMS1 (including the modding) would be the best
Was trying to get an F1 car around Long Beach last night and the sim definitely revealed that I'm not a driving god,LOL. Still a lot of fun though. Have been spending a lot of time with this title since version 1.3.
wait, so do the cars still do that "rubber band" thing after the update where the back end steps out a lit but it feels like the cars are just a bit *too* catchable? I heard that was done away with with the new update. was it not?
@@Ben_LaBroca hmm. I'll check it out when I get back home. I read about the update and I've been excited about seeing if they finally feel like real cars yet. The immersion factor is unparallelled. If they could just get the driving feel a little more like AC or ACC's, they'd be my new favorite sim, honestly.
I just watched your video on mentality and racecraft video you had uploaded 4 months ago.... I subbed bcoZ of that, that video is priceless... It helped me a lot, can u make a similar video on mentality that focuses on the frustration we get if we don't get near track record timings or underperforming pls pls pls🙏
Hey Max - cheers for stopping by buddy. Yeah I went through a long spell trying out AMS2 every month post updates and never finding it click with me. For me that has changed the last couple of months and I find the cars more planted than I used to, even if there’s still a ways to go from the physics side. Hopefully you get that feeling too with future updates!
I like the sim but for me there is still too much on throttle oversteer, particularly on corner exit, It’s just over the top, also some cars have no feel in corners, you just get a spongy feeling, it’s just not quite right somehow. I hope they continue to work to iron these issues out because it is by far the best looking sim out there. Also still some bugs in recognising some wheels, especially OSW.
Hey Paul - I had a similar experience with my wheel…was pretty annoying! Agree the balance still isn’t right re oversteer, although it’s definitely gotten better over previous version so fingers crossed it keeps heading in that direction!
Facing similar problem here, exiting slow corners makes the car so unstable that slips all over, even if i try to be as gentle as i can in brake/throttle.
Wow I see no problem with corner on exit you can't dig deep into the pedal all the way on exit i think you have to apply a touch of finest and composer.
i have given am2 not only 1 or 2 tries - even after the latest update - but it doesnt feels right with the ffb. especially when you know what´s possible to create like acc. thats very unfortunate, because everything else than ffb is very good from am2.
It is not you, it is the terribly wrong physics of AMS2. Did got a bit better with the update, but still you have weird oversteer on throttle out of corners basically with EVERY car class. And F-cars feel like a toy to drive -> you can drift through corners with an F3 car for example, nowhere near/close to reality.
🤐Nope can't be quiet. More down to the type of racer you are rather than which Sim/Game you prefer. Some like it to feel authentic, some prefer cinematic fantasy. I would rather grind a great lap time than have one served on a silver platter. Trying to keep a tail happy M3 on a bouncy Sebring in rF2 last night reminded me that it's all about the driving experience, squeezing that last 10th you dare. Yep more about the person than the software, some like to tinker in the shed but the majority call the bloke with the knob shaped spaceships. Where you started in Sim racing can also colour your decisions. I started on an Amiga and am still in awe of RR's visuals, whereas someone who began their journey with a recent version of F1 would understandably want a bit more of the bells & whistles. In the end as long as whoever, gets whatever they want from their desired Sim then I'm happy, it's when they then try to play I've got a bigger dick with their choice. Another great video from your corporate series 😁Bravo!
Hear hear Paul! I think you put it very well buddy. R3E remains top dog for me as a full package, and I don't mind the visuals too much on most tracks - although Zandvoort is a bit ZX Spectrum, never mind the amiga! But variety is sometimes the spice of life, so it's been fun doing these videos and asking the question - what are each of these titles doing best, whatever their shortfalls might be. R3E is indeed next up :)
I tried the demo and thought it was awful, particularly the FFB. Maybe the VW was a bad choice for a demo, but I definitely have no further interest in this sim. also, I don't want to mess around with mods, and those graphics are really shiny and nice, but no more realistic than RR or RF2.
Hey buddy - yeah I reckon the demo cars are pretty poor by all accounts but I think if the general feel of the game didn’t seem right for you’re probably spot on for giving it a swerve. I don’t think those core characteristics will ever leave the handling model, even if there are improvements to come. On the FFB, I think on the forums there’s a custom profile which people recommend to use. I’m running the default+ option which comes in game and feels pretty great through my wheel, but I know that’s subjective!
I wish this game actually had working curbs and more realistic handling, specially for F1 cars. I have it but I just want it to feel as natural as ACC for example
Sadly a lot of people criticise AMS2 because of what it was like on release without giving it another go since all the improvements. AMS2 has evolved so much Its my goto sim for pure driving pleasure. And things will just keep getting better and better. I'm so glad I stuck with this game.
