Some people should never do videos on how to repair things on a vehicle, number one never discard that heat shield it is not a reflector for the bulb it is a heat shield second if you're going to use a screwdriver put some painters tape over it so you don't scratch any of the vinyl plastic . Come on guy don't be a hack all your life.

Will, It is a "reflector" and it's made simply to reduce light aimed directly at your eyes. It's not a heat shield but it traps heat in overheating the entire fixture. The reflector is not behind the bulb, it covers the bulb. Removing it has the advantage of giving a wider beam pattern and over twice the total lumens emitted. The internal housing temperature drops when it's removed as more light and IR light can escape the housing. The disadvantage is that while driving you get more light directly into your eyes. Girls love it when its removed as it puts some direct light on your face so they can apply their makeup. I keep mine removed as it's twice as bright and allows reading entire maps instead of half of them due to the limited beam pattern. Also, If you put in LED's don't use bright 5000-6000K LED's if you want girls in the car as they will hate the harsh blueish white low CRI light. They turn off when the atmosphere jumps from warm late night to daylight 12 noon. 3000K warm white LED's are better and will match the rest of the interior lighting.

@@RadiationNetworkWel said , 4 years old and that's what I do. Pop those metal things out and goes from "unusable/map/whatever light" to "usable light to see where u dropped your phone/keys/pens/etc"
