- Hi all,
in this video I show you how to replace the awning brace knob on your carefree caravan awning .
it's a 2 minute job but knowing how to approach it makes all the different between an easy job and a pain in the backside one.
Legend! One of the few youtubers who has great camera work and good explanation. Thank you.
That's bloody nice of you. Thanks
Thank you, followed your tips and had it sorted in minutes. Super stuff
You are a wonderful man. I am a 67yrs woman and did it in less than 3mins.
Thanks you
Nice work Shauna, glad it helped and thanks for the kind words.
Thanks mate. Really clear instructions. Made the job a breeze
excellent Mr Berry. I hope you're as happy as I was once I did mine. I just didn't realise the originals were soooooo bad. Always nice to have all of your fingers and toes left at the end of the job too.
Another great video, thank you!! I found my nut spinning in the channel whilst tightening and undoing so I made up a separate plate as wide as the channel itself then drilled a couple 4mm holes through the nut plate and into my plate and pop riveted it to hold it in place. 😉
Hey mate appreciate the video you saved me shit load of mucking around and swearing!
Apologies to the neighbors for stopping their entertainment.
Mate your a bloody legend thank you so much for relieving a huge headache
No worries Dave. Welcome
Great Video, can confirm that this fix works for a dometic awning as well but you need to buy a dometic branded one because the backing nut is square instead of hexagonal. The bluetack on the nut/screwdriver worked well, got the knob screwed in first shot.
Thanks m8
cheers Dave, It's a bit of a faff, but once you get that first one, it's smooth sailing. ....well kinda.
Thanks for sharing mate has helped me out as mine needs to be replaced cheers
No problem good luck
Thanks for this video. Being a mechanical nong this explained it in a manner that had my 2 fitted in under 5 minutes. I have subscribed
No worries mate. Welcome aboard
just to let you know, there is a grub screw with allen key head you can remove at the base of brace arm to remove it completely to install brace knob and nut...
Perfect, great video... thank you!
I moused a line with dental floss to the flat nut and now it’s tied to the arm as well as being thin enough to still wind in the knob
😍😍😍 I’ve scrolled for hours trying to find this repair. Thank you! I do have a problem tho…my washer is completely flat on both sides and it keeps moving around and falling, like you showed would happen if you insert it with the flat side out. I can’t seem to get it to stay in place so I can screw the knob in! Hope that makes sense….it’s driving me insane with this 107 California weather 😅
haha . hey Tina, No advice really other than try a screw driver to hold it in place or abit of blue tak on the screw driver head...that could be an aussie product though. a little dab of glue or something just to hold it on the driver, but not so much that you can't just pull it out when you get the bolt in. hope that helps. nice to hear from you in the US :)
Thanks 🙏 waiting for part delivery and this may save a marriage 😂😂😂❤️
haha. if it doesn't work. it's the new year and lots of people make new starts . Good luck either way.
LEGEND!! cheers mate, this helped me out heaps!
No worries mate. I remember the first time I changed one. I fought with it for ages. 😁 Glad it helped mate
very easy done..any other hints caravaner ppl must know..like how to keep van looking new. exterior...polish mould grime..fibreglass van..
hi Batman, Mate I haven't moved the van in over 18 months due to covid and flooding etc. I now have a leak I need to sort before going anywhere and also have all the rear lights off looking to swap them out for a new LED set but have ran into challenges . I do plan on getting back into the van as soon as I can though
Thanks for the video! Big help!
Welcome Mr good
nice getting ready to do mine.
Good luck
@@DENMONKEY had to grind the knobs off. the stud was rusted. got them in. used a tent stake for holding the washer. good as new thanks.
Just found your video, I lost my locking knobs because I didn't tighten properly, so when I replaced them I drilled a hole near the end of the thread and put in a split pin to stop the knob from unscrewing all the way out, I wont loose them again.
that's the idea. they should have a circlip or something on them to stop them falling out in the first place.
thankyou was trying to make one instead ebay $28 for2
Brilliant. Now I can go fix mine:)
Yes they're a pain when missing and fiddly to replace but worth the effort
I did this repair a few months ago, wish I had seen this first! I have another issue though....You mentioned the Slider Assembly may fall out if you don't lock it. This happens all the time on one side as I retract the awning, but the other one never falls out. Any ideas why one does and the other doesn't?
Is the grub screw in bottom of the ‘sail track’ on the support arm missing? Pause the video at 4:44; the grub screw is just visible near the left hand edge of the screen….
Like Al said, I beleive there should be a screw of sorts in there to stop it coming apart. Perhaps you've lost one .
Thanks all, yes I found a screw on one side and not the other. Thinking a Small rivet might just do the trick too
The grub screws on mine are 1/4” UNC with 1/8” hex socket; but as the sail track is aluminium, anything similar could be encouraged to fit. A rivet may do, but do consider future ease of removal…
