Your mother is so much fun! She really is “spot on” with her feelings about the things our generation was taught to believe that we NEED. It is very helpful to watch her and to listen to her as she processes the clutter!
I would give you Golden buzzer for this video. Its the best ever. Your mom is processing her thoughts out loud, you are gently pushing her to think about it, than giving ther time and space to decide... What a loving, respectfull relationship you both have. And your mom has such a fun loving energy, so youtfull. Love love love it.
Your channel is the whole pkg . A vibrant young mother working her way thru simplifying and an experienced woman learning to let go for the season of life shes in now ! Just delightful .
Shannon and Mom…….your videos really resonate with me. I am 65 and have been doing major decluttering. You both give me the inspiration to get rid of stuff, actually donate. I am tired of all the clutter and now want simplicity in my life. Thank you both for your encouragement!! Merry Christmas 🎅🏻🎄
Yes thought of the putting away too. I do not want or have a week to pack it all away when I can go to the pool or beach with my kids. It's warm here where I am. Joys of living simply, more time to spend with my kids and my goal is to pack everything away again in one day Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄 guys
I'm happy to see that Kathy is getting more and more open to decluttering. ♥ For myself, I am 73 and the only Christmas decoration I put up is a wall hanging of snowmen. I go to my daughter's for Christmas, so there is no need for a lot of stuff. It is so freeing, I can tell you! So....Yay, Kathy! 😄
I know the feeling! It took me years to realize you don’t need all the stuff to make you happy! I started to declutter and simplify my life after my second husband died. I thought what am I going to do with all this stuff and it hit me, declutter! Now it’s more manageable and I feel happier! Happy Holidays to you both!🎄🥰💜🎄
Mother/Daughter declutter, yay! Just did a video declutter (it's a "thing"!) with my sister and sister-in-law to pare down the amount of Christmas decorations for my Mom's small apartment. We were able to weed out the items that were in disrepair, things that could be passed on to the grandkids who might need some decorations, and ended up with the essential, best things to make her space merry and bright!
So satisfying ! I'm with Cathy (and '56 & '59 were the best years ! ) I'm down to my 9 ft tree with simple ornaments and my nativity (set up in my breakfront ) All the Hallmark ornaments are consolidated and I gift them each year to someone that appreciates the nostalgia. I have my son's miniature tree on our Airstream as we travel "home" for Christmas. My son was the one that always helped me decorate, so I kept his tree in his memory. Merry Christmas to your sweet family ~
You and your mum are such fun when you declutter together - I love your interactions so much, I reckon the pair of you could even make washing dishes or cleaning the floor look entertaining!
Wow, you guys! I’ve just started my Christmas decorating. My husband and I are in our early 70s and I have vowed to get rid of a lot of my Christmas decorations. We don’t host anymore, so decorations are just for us. A little bit here and there goes a long way! Thanks for another great video.❤
I've tried the "less is more" Christmas decorating approach this year, & it's working even better than I expected. I'm using only my most favorite items & they really stand out as a result. Years ago, with my first home, I liked to have some seasonal decor in every room. Not anymore, though. I've realized it's OK to change my preferences over time.
Hi from Australia. I came across this Swedish Technique only yesterday admirer watching weeks of Hoarding shows. This is real and fun. What a great team effort and I love your methods. Setting up the tables for sorting is certainly the way to go. I’ve just ordered the books and as of Saturday I have a Months break from Babysitting my Grandaughter, so will be tackling a very serious clutter problem. I found the Hoarding shows helpful but depressing after a time and plan to make this challenge fun rather than daunting. Love you 3 ladies. Just so genuine, it’s refreshing.
I'm your mom's age bracket. As I have aged and have less energy and pain due to a mini stroke, I want less to clean up. So less is more. Its a different season in life and we can still enjoy it without so much hassle. Enjoy watching both of you. Thank you for all the tips. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!
You and your mom are a "hoot"! You can see the lightheartedness in her countenance by having only 3 boxes now. Her transition from the years of worry of letting go to now ready to look at what to donate that brings joy (and room to buy those candy canes 😉) This made my day! Thanks for the fun post for a sometimes quite difficult sentimental subject 🎄
Love watching you and your mom together, it is a joy and you two make me laugh. I'm inspired to go through all the Christmas decor when this season is over and not even store the things I no longer enjoy. Thanks for another great video!
I loved your mom’s comment about having lost all feeling about decluttering. That was a good one! Great video. Hope you all have a nice holiday season.
I'm 65 and a few years ago hubby and I got rid of a lot of our decorations. I just couldn't stand having 8 times more ornaments than I could fill the tree with. I made a tree to hang on our wall that is made of 6 nice wreaths from Micheals that are zip tied together. Then strung with several strands of lights that are zip tied to the wreaths. I have an 18 egg carton in a burlap bag with a bow around it hung on the bottom as a trunk. It's awesome!!!!! Out of the way and still probably gets 50 or more special ornamets hung on it. Take it off the wall, it folds in half, in a trash bag and under a bed until next year.
I’ve gone down to 10 small boxes in the basement from huge boxes in the attic! More decluttering to go!😅. Love your philosophy… the older we get the-the less we need!
Yes! It's funny how most of the time when we are decluttering my mom will be on the fence about a few things and then at the end, she will say ok It's Going.
So true! What you set out, you also have to put away! I’ve decluttered quite a bit of decorations and will likely purge more in January. It’s always an ongoing process.
Shannon, I love your mom I think we would be friends. I am 73 and I started decluttering at 60 so I clearly see where your mom is at. I’ve got rid of more and more and every year a little bit more goes that I wasn’t ready to get rid of the year before my goal is nothing on the floor, except furniture, legs and trash cans.
So excited to see a mom video! I'm decluttering decor too. I finally took all my ornaments out of the boxes they came in and just laid them nicely in an ornament tote undivided. No damage was done and if there was I'll get over it. Takes up much less space. Also I've realized this year I prefer a few medium sized statement pieces instead of lots of little houses, elves etc. everywhere. It's festive, less to own and easier to clean up!
Love you and your mom! Your videos are always fun and motivating. I was born in 1953. I don’t decorate anymore. I put out napkins, candle and salt & pepper shakers to with each season. No hassle. By the time things get put up, it is time to take them down and pack away/store. I’m like you, Cathy, I don’t change things around very often. ❤
Show your mom this video or send the link for her to join in on the journey!! When my Mom passed years ago my Dad left her stuff sit and when we were finally allowed to go thru it most of the stuff had mold, etc. Please allow your Mom to be enlightened❤good luck😊
Love you two together! Mom on the Santa "he never flipped my switch", may have to borrow that one. Yes, I have a sentimental angel. My mom bought it, after the holidays, on sale, I was probably 4 or 5. It's an inexpensive, plastic one, can put a light from the strands in her head and body to light her up. I still have her, I'm 73 now and would never let her go. I have a small bin of the sentimental ornaments, ones that my daughter made as a kid or we've bought through the years. Don't put many of them out but do look at them every year and cherish the memories.
I can relate to your mom getting defensive about getting rid of her stuff. But if you can eventually come to the decision to get rid of things in your own time that is good. And Shannon, you are very sweet with your mother on the videos by not pushing her or telling her she MUST get rid of things.
Your mother's mentality is a lot like my mom. She passed and it took me about 3-4yrs to declutter her house. Since I live in her house, now I'm decluttering my stuff. Thankfully I have folks in my life to take things I no longer want or need. Watching your videos are so helpful in reminding myself why I'm getting rid of all my stuff lol Happy Christmas to your family!!!
Thanks ladies! ❤️💚 Your humor and joy, are such an inspiration. Yes! Having less is so much more fulfilling. Keeping only what you use and really love, allows you to be able to actually see and appreciate each item so much more. 😊
I decluttered Christmas stuff two weeks ago and now I’m down to one bin! It feels so good! Holiday decor is such a clutter maker and it’s costly! Once you realize the $ was already spent and it’s not coming back it’s so freeing to get it out of the house!!!
I did half my decorations this year. Getting older is makes me keep things simple. I got rid of so much stuff last year. But I still have about 10 bins. Come January I will get rid of more stuff.
I loveeeeeee your Mom, we are the same age, and a lot of what she says I so get….. I also have decluttered Christmas decor, and I actually took some decor down this year after I put it up, because as your mom said I like my home without too much around, I am down to one Christmas bin and one fall bin…. I am so passed being sentimental about things… 🎄❤️🎄
I always enjoy watching you and your mother declutter. You both have a great sense of humor. I agree with the less is more mentality. I have already decluttered Christmas items and plan to do the same this year. I find it is hard to really enjoy those things you love when you have so many things displayed.
I actually buy an ornament each year now bc after giving our now grown kids theirs from childhood ( they got an ornament every Christmas ) we were short ornaments. I love the Hallmark ornaments from the 90's...And..the icing on the cake is, no tree to store bc our 🎄 Christmas tradition is picking a live tree..❤ This year, I still decluttered decor and now it all fits in one popcorn tin!!! The tree lights fit into a 2nd popcorn tin and then there is one small bin of ornaments. It used to be like....7 large rubbermaid tubs, uggg plus more....
Wow Julia you are doing amazing with the decluttering =). From 7 to only a few popcorn tins. That is great! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season.
@shannontorrens1 Thank you! You were my inspiration and encouragement😊 Yes, it is refreshing! You know, I feel like each year, I enjoy Christmas more and more without all of the excess.. I think this year it really hit home that the mindset is continual and when you keep it that way, you keep the clutter away. I love when Kathy said it's okay to do it different this year. The other ornaments will still be there.... And also how you both mentioned that when you don't put a lot out, there's not a lot to put away. I guess I'm just not a big decorator, because I'm so practical anyway, but the things I do set out are meaningful to me. It was also cute what Kathy said about how she thought, maybe I will just get a poinsettia... My husband got me a Christmas cactus and it blooms red blooms. I like that it's a piece of practical decor, A living plant that can continue on after the holiday❤ I wish you could see a photo of our sweet tree. As Enjoy seeing yours😊🎄😍Merry Christmas!
Y’all are so right . There is more enjoyment in a clutter free home than in all the stuff ! I enjoyed some things for a season but that season has passed for many things.
Way to go, Kathy! With your encouragement, Shannon, your mom will certainly reach that goal of 1 less storage bin. It's always hard to get rid of a good box. I store my ornaments in them and then just place the empty boxes under the tree until it's time to store them away again. P.S. If there are any regrets, they're easy to replace at a dollar store. It's a good experiment to see if you can live without them though.
Awesome job, Kathy. I'm down to 1 tote of Christmas stuff. I don't enjoy putting out a lot of stuff anymore as it looks too cluttered and hated putting it all away. Isn't it interesting how much we can change in our lives?
I'm on the same journey. I've gotten Christmas down to just the things I love. Years ago we were taught more is better with Christmas decor but after storing all of it we found out less is beautiful!
This year I set out my vintage ceramic tree and no artificial tree. So freeing. I am testing the waters to see if I miss the tree and all that goes with it. If I don’t miss it, next year I will be donating it all. The ceramic tree is pretty, it stores quickly and easily and reminds me of my childhood. What’s not to love about that? 🎄
I was down to one tote for my tree ornaments. 2 (or 3?) Christmases ago, my daughter & her husband decided to gift us with snowmen decorations (which fill up most of a tote). So now I have 2 totes! I have decluttered 90% of what I had before - so I'm happy with what I have. Well done on getting rid of more 'stuff'! It's less to manage and takes up less storage space!
last christmas i neatly organized my christmas decoration and when i opened my bin this year i was ready to let a couple of things go. sometimes it just takes some cycles and that is ok.
What your mom said at the end was very profound. I wrote it down in my notes to look back on. Thank you. It’s very difficult to let go of our things. Things that I’ve kept for decades I am able to let go of today. We’re probably going to get rid of it anyways. It’s just a manner of “when” we are able to see things more clearly. And loosen our grip.
I’m with you ….decorating is fun but putting it away is not fun ….i went from a6 ft real tree to a 4 ft artificial tree and got rid of a lot of decor or just don’t use it all. Last year I didn’t even put ornaments on the tree just the lights it looked nice …😊❤️🎄
If you have too many ornaments to fit your tree, you either need to: (A) declutter some ornaments so someone else can enjoy them, (B) buy a bigger tree, or (C) buy another tree to set up in another room. Merry Christmas!

I love your mom so much. She is always having fun. And her attitudes about her stuff and decluttering are so relatable! More, please.
Thank you!
Your channel is the whole pkg . A vibrant young mother working her way thru simplifying and an experienced woman learning to let go for the season of life shes in now ! Just delightful .
Thank you so much it makes me so happy to encourage people of all ages. =)
Shannon, dont take this the wrong way, I love all your videos, but I LOVE the ones with your mom, she is hilarious and reminds me so much of my own!
Thank you! I hope you are having a nice weekend. =)
I love the idea of decorating with candy canes and eating them off the tree, instead of waiting until the end of the season. That made me smile.
I do that every year. My granddaughter and I ate one today. My favorite are the starburst ones
“The more I put out, the more I have to put away” How true!
Yes thought of the putting away too. I do not want or have a week to pack it all away when I can go to the pool or beach with my kids. It's warm here where I am.

Thank you so much!
Kathy: No, I've lost all feeling for getting rid of stuff. 😂😂😂 The Dynamic Duo is always demonstrating how to enjoy simple living. ❤
I know the feeling! It took me years to realize you don’t need all the stuff to make you happy! I started to declutter and simplify my life after my second husband died. I thought what am I going to do with all this stuff and it hit me, declutter! Now it’s more manageable and I feel happier! Happy Holidays to you both!🎄🥰💜🎄
I think the reason the vids with your mom are so popular is that we can all relate to her- she keeps it 'real'

From the moment Shannon started rolling her eyes when mom said she wanted to buy more decor, I was rolling 🤣🤣🤣through this video❣️ 😅😅😅

I'm enjoying all the 'special' things I have, which were 'lost' amongst the clutter of 'stuff'!

Kathy you're not the only one who's defensive of all your junk 😂. But man, you've come a long way!
“I have lost all feeling for getting rid of stuff”🤣🤣🤣🤣 love your mom’s humour . Merry Christmas 🎄
And yet she has a hard time getting rid of a skirtless hula doll😂. So real.
We love to see Mom content🙌🏼🎄!!! She’s really on a roll & so inspiring!
I loved your mom’s comment about having lost all feeling about decluttering. That was a good one!
Great video. Hope you all have a nice holiday season.
Haha! I hope you have a Happy Holiday season too.

Love this!
I’ve gone down to 10 small boxes in the basement from huge boxes in the attic! More decluttering to go!😅. Love your philosophy… the older we get the-the less we need!
Mom did a great job
When I get rid of things I say, I’ve already loved it enough.
I love it when your mom and u do a video together. U both are so precious ❤.
😊 thank you
Yay, it looks festive even with less decor! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Your mom needs her own channel! She’s fantastic. 💖
Getting rid of that last snowman. So funny, but so insightful. ❤
Yes! It's funny how most of the time when we are decluttering my mom will be on the fence about a few things and then at the end, she will say ok It's Going.
The dynamic among your mother and you is the best. It makes me come back every time.
I wished my mom let me help her like you do.
So true! What you set out, you also have to put away! I’ve decluttered quite a bit of decorations and will likely purge more in January. It’s always an ongoing process.
If you love it, it goes together.❤
Shannon, I love your mom I think we would be friends. I am 73 and I started decluttering at 60 so I clearly see where your mom is at. ❤
Wow your mom did an awesome job! Wish mine would start to let go of stuff lol

Your mom makes me smile all the time❤❤
Thanks ladies! ❤️💚
Your humor and joy, are such an inspiration.
Yes! Having less is so much more fulfilling. Keeping only what you use and really love, allows you to be able to actually see and appreciate each item so much more. 😊
Shannon and Kathy, such fun to see you declutter more stuff. Good to get it to the thrift store early in December.
You did a really good job.
Cheers
Wow your mom has come a long way. Great inspiration ❤Happy Holidays 😊
Happy holidays!
I love this grandma!!!!!! She reminds me of my mom. KUDDOS
lol I have never felt him. I just love you guys. Thank you.
Haha! That comment made me laugh.

Your Mom is such a treasure! Thank you for sharing her with us!❤
I am so like your Mom. I use to keep boxes to use for gifts but never used them. LOL
Love when you two are working together Shannon. ❤️❤️❤️

I'm the same age as mom. I'm also going through the purging. It feels good
Love this! thank you Mom and Shannon for making this such a fun video to watch!
Thank you! I hope you are doing well. =)
Kathy - that green top is a stunning colour on you!
Love your mum
I'm on the same journey. I've gotten Christmas down to just the things I love. Years ago we were taught more is better with Christmas decor but after storing all of it we found out less is beautiful!
I just found your channel. Love it and also your mom is so funny. Love from the Netherlands
I can’t believe how much I’ve gotten rid of as I’ve been watching you declutter the years. You definitely motive me to have less.
Your mom is doing a great job👏👏. That’s great to see you and your mom what a great team . Keep up the great work and fantastic video . ❤
The Hawaiian doll’s grass mini skirt!🤣😂
I’m down to one Christmas tote and love the simplicity of it. Cathy is doing so well!
I love the new painting and refreshed area!
last christmas i neatly organized my christmas decoration and when i opened my bin this year i was ready to let a couple of things go. sometimes it just takes some cycles and that is ok.
"Meaningful" has become my go-to word, especially for Christmas decor. Merry Christmas to you both and thank you for sharing.
Seeing your mom in the videos is always a highlight❣👍
I’m with you ….decorating is fun but putting it away is not fun ….i went from a6 ft real tree to a 4 ft artificial tree and got rid of a lot of decor or just don’t use it all. Last year I didn’t even put ornaments on the tree just the lights it looked nice …😊❤️🎄
Not feeling him??? I never really have felt him 🤣🤣🤣
Whahaha i loved that part too! 😂😂😂
How fun! I Luv U guys!
👏👏👏👍💞
Fantastic Job! 😃😃😃
If you have too many ornaments to fit your tree, you either need to: (A) declutter some ornaments so someone else can enjoy them, (B) buy a bigger tree, or (C) buy another tree to set up in another room. Merry Christmas!
Enjoyed this video, every Christmas I am amazed that I keep finding things to let go of. Good job girls!
I am decluttering Xmas stuff this week ❤
Oh once again, your mother is a hoot and precious.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Shannon!! Love your Mom and daughter declutters - you two bring a smile to my face every time!!
You two are always so fun to watch. Thanks for a bright spot in my day!
