Really good one John, you pick songs with great lyrics. I do like a good lyric you can sink your teeth into, kind of encourages you to really bring the song alive.
Excellent sounding mix of picking and strumming! Killer vocals as always! It's been fun discovering new to me seasonal songs, and I really like this one as you've brought it John ~
Maggie used to do this song, but with an entirely different tune and kinda different words, but the same story. Thanks for reminding me. It's neat to hear different versions of folk songs.
Yea I only listened to a few lines of I think Jose Feliciano’s version and it was more a major melody. I like this minor melody. Sounds like an Appalachian banjo song.
I recognise the story/lyrics, but the tune doesn't ring familiar. I suppose I've always heard a different melody. Thanks for introducing me to this PK version, John.
This reminds me of parts of of Wayfaring Stranger. I could play the instrumental on guitar for you, but not on guitalele or uke. It's just not the same, if it's not on guitar. Well done, John
Great song and rendition!
one of my fave Christmas folk songs mate. so brilliantly done.
Never heard this one before John. You really give the lyrics some weight. 👍👍

I've never heard this or any version of it before. Thanks for your splendid intro the song here, John!
Thanks Val. It’s been around for 400 years and slipped by us both.
That's an interesting old song, and I don't think I've heard it before. Thanks for pointing us at it John.
Cheers Steve!
