Those are my shoes! Trent, you did a beautiful job! It's nice to see high quality shoes get a high quality cobbling job. When I got them back from the local cobbler who did the initial work I thought they looked...okay. But when I got home and examined them more closely I started to notice the substandard work he did. From the cemented half sole to the uneven heel to the rough edges to the varnish splashed everywhere, it was just an ugly and unpolished job. If he charged a price commensurate with the work it could almost be excused but that was not the case. I paid almost $100 for it. Thanks again Trent. You and Heath would probably reject this characterization, but you guys truly are artists.
Well, we all make mistakes eh. I live in NY and can send my shoes to any cobblers in NYC. Sadly, I haven't found anyone as good as these guys, Bedo's Leatherworks, and a few others. I wouldn't trust any local cobbler who can't show me their craftsman ship or processes ahead of time.
There's a big difference between calling out other cobblers for doing shoddy work and setting a standard of quality. Like it or not you guys have set a standard and those of us who wouldn't know any better are thankful.
Amazing work, as always. I always appreciate your restraint in criticizing other cobblers. I smiled every time you referred to the previous repair as, “…not the best.” You’re a true southern gentleman. You would have been justified in calling the repair job what it was, a hot mess. But your work speaks for itself, so you didn’t have to. You guys are such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
@@hydroaegis6658 I agree to an extent. And I think the customer should definitely leave negative reviews for the original cobbler so other potential customers know what’s up. I just meant that it isn’t necessary to be overly critical when we can obviously all see what superior work Trent did compared to the original cobbler. We didn’t need to be told the other work was disastrous; we could see it. I just appreciate the level of professionalism that comes with letting one’s own work shine rather than focusing on the shortcomings of others.
@@JenLynFin I agree with both of your comments. They are true southern gentleman, a rare breed these days. They allowed their work to say what was needed.
JM Weston makes an mazing shoe. Stacked leather, thick nails, high stitch density on the welt, etc. They do their own leather tanning via traditional method. I would have been pissed if those came back with the original shoddy work. Great job as always!
it's always the details and finish work that make the customer happy......when we fixed cars, all the customer looked at was how shiny and new everything looked at the end....the original work left a lot to be desired....if it was a 50 dollar repair then fine but you pay for quality and it shows....I am sure the customer was ecstatic when he saw the new shoes
I’ve been working in the shoe repairs business in the UK for around 4 years and I still watch these videos amongst others to improve my craft and provide the best possible service with the tools I’ve got available to me! Really grateful to you for any and all the skills I’ve learned here. I’ve seen repairs such as this myself and I can appreciate this individuals attempt to repair these shoes because we all have to start somewhere. That being said, I wouldn’t charge a fee if this was the end result! Apologise and explain that you tried your best and advise a more skilled craftsman while you continue to improve your craft 🙏🏻 Most times it’s a respectful service that keeps us in business rather than a quick pay day 👍🏻
Fantastic! It is because of your channel that I am learning about true quality and craftsmanship, and that good shoes can last decades if you care for them. I have learned that really good shoes are an investment and your favorites can last for many many years. No More Kenneth Coles for me. (just because Dillard's or Neiman's has them doesn't mean they are the best). This is a great video. I appreciate the time and effort you guys spend on educating dudes who don't know better or who were never raised with the idea that good shoes should last a very long time. That restoration was excellent. Cheers to you guys for showing us what to look for.
This is why i keep coming back to you guys. not only do you do a great job, but you explain every step of the way and show the craftsmanship of an almost forgotten art. Hats off to you both for your love and dedication to your profession.
There was a poster hanging in my high school classroom, and it has stuck with me through the years. The poster simply read "If you don't have time to do it right, you must have time to do it again." How true this rings especially with this repair job. Good on you for not slandering, simply setting an example of what the standard should look like.
After experiencing so many terrible repair jobs I’ve decided to send all my jobs to Japan. You would think there was at least one good cobbler in New York City where there are so many leather shoes walking around. But, no. In Japan there seems to be a different standard when it comes to shoe repair. They are fantastic and the level of finishing is like I’ve never seen, sometimes better than the manufacturer. Thank you for keeping the standard so high for shoe repair in the states. You guys are exceptional!
You know men... You both are one up on the history channel. The History Channel could not present you any better than the production you have here on the YT CHANNEL. I have worked on a few movies, tv commercials,tv shows, music videos...the show is right at viewer level. You have marketed yourself into a wealthy retirement program. You two will be working in your retirement just to catch up on your backlog... I have not seen anyone do better in presentation. You have a genuine charisma and the lens likes you. YOU MADE YOURSELF INTERNET STARS! Congrats to the camera crew, production and editing team... You keep it short, sweet, and simple. A winner every time...
Happy New Year. I have had cobbler repairs all over the world, Vienna, London, SFO, San Diego, Philadelphia, Detroit Belle Meade These two gentlemen are the top of their game and in my experience the best in America.
I have a local man who does very good work, however, if I had to recondition a pair I really loved, I would send them to Trenton and Heath. No question, attention to detail sold me after your third video.
Nice job I'm a fourth-generation Shoemaker never seen anybody glue a sole on with out stitching my grandfather said to me never glues soul and leave it without stitches great job guys keep stitching the shoes we need to use the stitchers thank you

It is so satisfying seeing a job done well and with pride. And I appreciate the respect you show other cobblers by avoiding personal criticism and keeping the criticism informative and professional. Maybe the first cobbler will see what you have done and be inspired to improve! I know I would be. Thanks for posting. 😊
I’m loving the longer videos!!!! Always so interesting and informative. I love watching the entire process of shoe restoration. I’d love to see you go to the thrift store again and get a better made but worn out shoe to redo for auction!!! That was so wonderful!!
Nice to see Steve comment, two best cobbler channels out there! I love it when people do things the right way and brings pride to the profession. Yes these guys ARE professionals! 👍🏻
It's always the quality of the little details that determine the level of craftsmanship that the craftsman will be judged by. As always you guys do the job to the level that you would expect for someone to do for you.

As a home renovations specialist, we see similar situations where a previous contractor does subpar work at best. We have never made a habit of discussing or putting down others work to our clients. If they are calling us then they already recognize an issue. We may very well answer questions related to the previous work, but we minimize our response to only the specifics related to the work itself. We never ask who the precious contractor was etc. If one takes pride in their work, continues to grow in skill and knowledge, and is honest with clients….well, you dont even need to be the least expensive. Just give the client value for what they are spending and you will stay busy and booked
