It was a perfect cast! Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart were great shows to watch back-to-back.
Saturday nights belonged to CBS : The Jeffersons, Mary Tyler Moore , Bob Newhart , Carol Burnett . And then at 11:30 on NBC- the NEW Saturday Night Live !

They should’ve also made a smaller statue of her and put it a few feet back behind Mary’s statue. 😂
I remember they interviewed that lady on Oprah once and she was asked what she thought Mary Tyler Moore was doing and why she had that look on her face.
She said she thought she was trying to kill herself by running out in traffic!
So... It does explain the mortified expression that she had!

The Lou Grant character was almost a "dramatic" character on a "comedy" show - that's why Ed Asner worked so well in that role!!
The Lou Grant Show spinoff was a big flop in my book. Scripts tried to be to socially relevant and the Big Lou character lost all his humor and gruff charm.
The episodes where Edie leaves were my favorites

This show was second to none in the 1970s. It was right up there with All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Mash. And that theme music was a stroke of genius. The minute I would hear it come on the TV, I'd grab a snack and run into the living room. It was something that you not only found yourself humming but you also found yourself singing.
For some reason, this theme song has been in my head ( Lord only knows why)

Although it has been many years since the Mary Tyler Moore Show aired over here in Britain, when you started matching the shots for the opening credits, it seemed like only yesterday - it truly was one of those memorable sitcoms. Many thanks for this one Jordan - it was a joy to watch. Great to see Jah.

Boy has Minneapolis changed since this show
The original owners of "The Mary Tyle Moore Show" house hated all the tourists coming to their home to take pictures and gawk at it. By the fourth season, those owners put signs out front to discourage the film crew from filming there again. This is why Mary had to move to another apartment in another building.
Even though this was filmed in the 1970s, everything has stayed the same, including the mall's architecture and interiors. I am glad the people of Minneapolis still love Mary Tyler Moore and her excellent, hilarious series. RIP to all the cast members; they are all missed by many fans of this show. Thank you for showing the sites where the series took place.
Another great episode. My friend Midwest friend Annette said the lady watching Mary toss her hat was her aunt. That’s so cool.

Amazing how much push back they got from the networks, especially for a show that turned out to be so well loved. The friendships were the best part to me. Great job on this Jordan!!

I remember watching it growing up. One interesting fact is when I lived in Minneapolis in the mid 90’s the MTM house was owned by a wealthy couple who were art collectors. They at least one ran an event in there home where members of our Synagogue could buy tickets and see their art collection. Also, the woman you mentioned looking “horrified” was the Mom of one of the hosts of a popular weekly current events program on PBS.
After the preview that flopped, audience members commented that Rhoda wasn't likeable and was too abrasive. Brooks and Burns didn't want to change anything. So they added a line where Bess tells Mary that Rhoda is fun when you get to know her. That one extra line was all that was needed.
It’s all in the writing. I think Valerie Harper pull off her lines like a pro.
Rhoda turned out to be the favorite character.
You did a great job matching shots, Jordan! MTM had one of the BEST sit-com casts ever: Valerie Harper, Ted Knight, Georgia Engle, Betty White, Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod, and Cloris Leachman were all amazing actors. And who doesn't love Chuckles the Clown??? The writing and directing were brilliant! Thanks for sharing these classic show locations!

Great video! I have been a Mary Tyler Moore Fan since childhood. I was fortunate enough to visit Minneapolis and the opening film locations in December, 2022 for my birthday. It was amazing!
Just a few observations because I am a huge fan and have seen every single episode.
The episode with Henry Winkler, Season 4: Episode 10, The Dinner Party was not a Thanksgiving Episode. The show never featured a Thanksgiving Episode. It featured two Christmas Ones. On the show the running joke was that Mary's parties were disasters! Haha!
Another observation: In 2015, The Mary Tyler Moore Statue was moved and placed inside the city's downtown for sidewalk construction on Nicolett Street. She was finally returned to her normal spot. I can go on and on! Haha!
I'm so glad that nobody vandalizes the statue of her out there on the street. Wonderful artwork!❤
Yes, especially, during the George Floyd riots in the late spring of 2020 which we all knew took place in Minneapolis.
I really enjoyed that! I'm a German who lived in the U.S. for 4 years in the 90s, and that's when I got to watch all of the classic American TV shows that we didn't get over here in Germany. And Mary Tyler Moore was one of my favorites! I miss Nickelodeon, it was pretty much the only channel I watched back then.

At the time this show was on the air my mom (also a designer) worked for Norman Todd whose clothes Miss Moore wore on the show. Sometimes she would bring home samples of the same outfits Miss Moore wore. These outfits were very tailored. One time my sister had a pantsuit on and we were watching the show and Miss Moore had the same outfit on but in a different color. We just screamed but we thought that was pretty cool.
That's very cool!

They did a MTM show public reunion about 15-20 years ago at the Mall of America and actually found (who knows how) the woman who was glaring at her during the hat toss and she made an appearance. The woman and Mary met for the first time at that reunion. Reports said she was a really good sport about the whole thing
That's surprising, being she looked pretty old in the original shot. then again, people looked much older than they were back then.
Dayton's was a fixture for a downtown destination. Macy's eventually bought it , but it just wasn't the same. It was closed for awhile and then came back retro Dayton's a few years ago as mostly office space with retail at street level. My parents would bring me there in the 60's to see Santa up on the seventh floor. And they really did cool Christmas window dressings like Jordan showed.
I loved the Mary Tyler Moore show and I remember watching the very first episode when it aired. We thought it was so cool because of all the shots in Minneapolis. Being from Minnesota, that was great! Thanks for doing this vlog. Great job as usual.
Love that beautiful House of Mary! The new enclosed porch ruined the sightlines of the original but at least it's still standing. Thanks for your fun report. In high school I sure missed out on many Saturday night social gatherings choosing to watch that legendary early '70s CBS-TV primetime lineup, including The Bob Newhart Show.

Well done video on TMTMS, I’ve watched TMTMS since the early 70’s it’s a top ten TV show of all time. BTW the old lady who’s behind Mary watching as she tosses her hat in the air is Hazel Frederick. She by chance happened to be at the right place, at the right time, now Hazel is part of classic tv.

This really was a continuing to break new ground series because at the time except for Marlo Thomas's series " That Girl " there really hadn't been any series centered around a modern feminist idealed ( happily ) single career woman. It was all either male lead , family shows , ensambles or variety shows. It became iconic and proved that shows centered around modern single career women if done right could be successful. Beautiful Mary with her warmth, great comedic aptitude and charm was perfect as a feminist role model because you couldn't help but love her. The brilliant writing and talented co stars were the cherry on top and a major reason the show was so great.
Loved this vlog of Mary Tyler Moore. She was a good actress, loved her. Love to see Jah at the end in the park.
This was a good episode. Interesting to see the locations they used, and the early history of the show was new to me, too. The story really demonstrates how important it is to have connections in high places.

Wow, what interesting facts, never knew about any of this until you done this Jordan. I noticed that woman in the back as Mary Tyler Moore threw her hat up. What amazing facts, it's hard to believe they're all past on even chuckle the clown. One episode was the whole cast was at his funeral and Mary started laughing. Thank you to all cast members for giving us great memories.

Another GREAT video, Jordan! I used to work at a shoe store near there (Bostonian) in a mall called Gavidae Common. It was at the bottom of the glass staircase that was seen in Mighty Ducks where the hockey player knocks the woman into the fountain. I was paid $250 by Disney for the inconvenience of the film crew disrupting sales. A woman was walking around with a briefcase full of cash. Something that many people don’t know is that the basement of that Dayton’s department store was the location of the very first Target store.

I was 10 when this show premiered ! I LOVED this show Mary was my idol! To this day is love this show!!!! Thank you Jordan❤️I live in Thunder Bay Ontario , 6 hours north of MSP in Canada! Every summer we would vacation in Minneapolis to shop, , baseball games, and as I child in was in awe to be in Mary’s location of the series!

I really enjoyed that. Thank you for all of the different angles of the statue. When I first watched the MTM show in the 70s (as a preteen), my favorite character was Rhoda. A few years back, I was able to catch the show on reruns (I'm talking nearly five decades later) and found my favorite character is Lou. I'm sure glad they didn't recast him. Everyone on the show is funny, but Lou is hysterical! Thanks for a great video.

This was great!! I love how they have that statue where that famous scene was filmed. I always noticed that lady in the background but I never heard that story of when Mary bumped into her again so that was awesome!

What a show. One of the best casts ever in film or TV. And it was such a fun, warm show.
Thank you so much for this video! Mary Tyler Moore was my favorite show while I was in my 20's. I absolutely loved all the characters and Mary's character become my "role model". I loved seeing the actual places with the scenes spliced in. This brought so many happy memories. I'm sad all the actors have now passed, but the show lives on as one of the best!
Not all are dead! Lisa Garrettson who played Bess is alive and so is John Amos who played Gordy is too. I know all the main cast is gone, but these two were very good too.
Interesting views of the scenery . Seems so long ago when comedy was subtle and so slice of life like . Would have been interesting to know who once lived in that house then and now and if they get any attention from that but , I realize you're not that intrusive by nature . A choice of place for a series can add to the feel and appeal of a show . The exteriors of The Bob Newhart show gave it it's particular warm and fuzzy feel .

Nicely done Jordan. Found out some things about the show I didn't know. CBS made a decision in the late 60's to ditch the "Southern Comedies". So Andy Griffith, Petticoat Junction, and Green Acres were out, and shows like All in the Family and Mary Tyler Moore were in. CBS was pretty dominant in 70's television, much. like NBC was in the 80's. Mary Tyler Moore was very good to the network, giving them two hit shows in two separate decades.
CBS was known as the Country Broadcasting System. All of the shows they aired took place in small town or rural America.
Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and the Beverly Hillbillies where the shows. Font used was peignot, pronounced pen yo. The same was used on the ABC Movie of the Week

Great video of one of TVs greatest ever Tv shows. I got married in 1971 and my wife and I would watch Mary every week. Sadly like Mary my wife passed on but I have many happy memories of both Mary and my wife many thanks for keeping memories of the Mary Tyler Moore show alive.

Do we dare tell Jordan about the mummified monkey found during the downtown mpls Dayton’s interior demolition/renovation project? The monkey went missing in the 1960’s from the 8th floor pet store. It was found in 2018.

Oh wow, that old intro song took me BACK! Feels like just yesterday I was devouring these shows. I'd watch MTM right before WBK (Welcome Back MR. KOTTER!!!!!!). Thems was the good days of TV. We took it one day at a time.
Very well made video. Great editing job. As a big fan of the MTM show, it was very interesting to me to see the actual locations where parts of the show were filmed. I doubt that I will ever get to Minneapolis, so this video was a wonderful treat. I especially loved seeing the statue of Mary. She truly deserved this heartwarming tribute.

This show was a mainstay on Saturday nights on CBS. I remember watching The Jefferson's, All in the Family, Bob Newhart, and the Carol Burnett Show. Was on the air for 7 years, and interesting thing was that Mary Tyler Moore and Ted Knight used their first names. Ed Asner who played Lou Grant. Was the cantankerous old man.
So many talented people in that show. Ted Knight was so funny. I loved that house.

The Henry Winkler episode Mary had a congresswoman for dinner. Sue Ann cooked the meal but there was only so many portions. It's one of my favorite episodes bc Ted was upset he wasn't invited but showed up for dessert😂 I love the intro to the show when Mary throws her hat and the woman's face with the scarf on her head was perfect reality!
If you search youtube, there's an uncut video of all the filming locations they used for the opening and closing credits with the whole cast there watching, James l. Brooks giving Mary, Valerie and Cloris direction while they're filming the shots. It's pretty cool, check it out!

Although I was more of a Valerie Harper fan, your narrative made the video interesting for me, and the sightseeing parts were also very interesting, as well as the statue of Mary Tyler Moore. Indeed the the country was starting a new decade with many changes and Mary and cast was a big part of it. People liked the new faces andthe characters were and are so believable. There were so many different interesting personality traits that played off each other so well too. The network at first wanted Jack Cassidy as Ted Knight and he would have been splendid, but he turned it down which gives us marvelous Ted that became Ted. Such a great review!If a person didnt have a date for Saturday night, there was always Mary and Carol Burnett! Only those who grew up then can really appreciate that statement
