Brett is a legitimate threat to the game. I think he made the right choice taking time off to help him gain a little size and get where he needs to be.

I really like when Brett talks and is super humble about how extreme is prepped are. Such as when he just casually mentioned eating 240 G per meal. And Fouad is in disbelief when he realizes that it's a dry measurement. Haha or when he casually mentions adding 25 to 30 lb of pure State weight in two years when you're already at ifbb Pro Caliber

39:00 (BCAA's from Japan = Ajipure (conpany is Ajimoto). Pharma grade as they're made from fermented vegetables/fruits in a lab VS. the hair follicles they're typically harvested from. Flavored individual packets are great, unflavored tastes like casein - absolutely. L-arginine is like a casein w/curdled milk.

39:57 Unflavored hydro-casein was called pepto-pro and I know early on Biotest used it in their first versions of Plazma. It was rough lol. Beverly international still makes a tablet version and that is the only way I was ever able to consistently make use of it. EAA's might not be the tastiest supplement out there but compared to what some of this used to taste like we are VERY LUCKY these days. If you used anything in the 90's you know what I am talking about.

  • @fraternovaeres

I'm pretty sure Fouad was right about rest-pause. Say you do a submaximal weight for rack pulls and you do 1 rep, rest for a few seconds, do 1 rep, rest, and keep going until you hit a pre-designated number of reps, that's rest-pause. If you do what Guy's talking about, where you designate X number of sets to failure with a given weight and short breaks between, that's a cluster set because you've "clustered" a pre-determined number of sets together, where as rest pause reps are about a pre-determined number of reps.

On the straight vs rest pause,
What do you think in this context -
    3 straight sets to failure 2 minutes rest - let’s say 225 x 12,10,9
    1 rest pause - 225 x 12-7-5
Your reaching failure 3 times. I believe the science says working within 5 reps from failure produces a stimulus that would build muscle. The closer to 0 reps from failure you get, the more stimulus but also more fatigue you cause.
Most people can’t actually keep technique or mentally stay in a set all the way to 0 reps in reserve.

Great Podcast - As for WInklaar when it comes to size loss; let's not forget that the guy dieted down to compete at the Olympia (eventually did not because of Covid) and then when he thought he will go into a proper offseason he did not train for months because gyms were closed. In fact, as he said in an interview on Monday Night Muscle his initial plan was to compete towards end of August and not mid July.

01:06:00 Dennis Wolfe did have some neck surgery and I am assuming retired and then had a long time off training, so that would play a role. The other guys, to my knowledge, still trained in some capacity. Of course I am NOT a genetic elite but my "set-point" without training is much higher, 220, due to the years spent there and heavier.
