- I have put over 500 hours in to the PC version of NMS I was there at the dodgy launch all the way through. It’s one I never saw coming to the Switch and was very keen to go through (particularly performance) as everything we had seen before launch looked flawless. There are flaws, but it is still impressive. How does it run? Let’s find out! #NoMansSky #NintendoSwitch #review

Will this game take to the sky? Or is it another No Man’s Lie? Let’s find out!
Lets go
Nice!
Ha ha! I was going to ask if you are covering it
Good i am in
There should be bonus points awarded if a game falls under the “miracle port” category. Those hard-working devs deserve it!
Off the top of my head, true miracles are Witcher 3, Alien Isolation, No Mans Sky. Any others I’ve missed?
@@Txas_Red dying light, doom, doom eternal.
Vote with your money. Reward the devs by buying the game.
Money always beats any "prize" especially for an indie dev.
@@Txas_Red add the Nier Automa Yorha Edition game on there as well.
Depends.
PanicButton, SaberInterctive, Rebellion, Techland etc.
Switch ports hinge on optimization that others platforms lack (as they just jam pack RAM and call it a day)
That's why switch game textures are muddy.
But Nintendo ALWAYS forced optimization :D
The fact that you can guys attempted to stress the game by building a monstrosity is why I put my trust in this channels analysis of a game's worth. Appreciate the attention to detail and providing more than just a surface level review
Thank you mate! Mark
Nier Automata, No Man's Sky & Persona 5 Royal all in one month with awesome port jobs so far. very impressed. 🔥
I'm going to be broke!
True and I hope they get enough sales for the hard work. Although I ask myself what's the point of converting such a game for the Switch at this time? Meanwhile it's quite an outdated device. I won't buy any of those games (already own them on Steam) in fact I barely buy any games for the Switch anymore. The Switch will get a successor for which such games again have to be ported and we have to buy it again... so, no thanks.
In fact, now that Windows handhelds get more and more attention and are far more powerful than the Switch, the future will be hard for Nintendo...
@@chadkearbey8605 me too my friend me too lol 😂😆
Absolutely crazy.
MMBN Legacy Collection next year and the switch has everything I ever wanted :D
Bayonetta 3 as well
I always love impossible ports, even if I've played the games on other platforms, just the fact they run on switch blows my mind!
Yeah it still amazes me that this, crash bandicoot 4 it’s about time, Lego city undercover, the Witcher 3, saints row, Skyrim plus others all run great great on a portable device like the switch
Man, I'm so glad Hello Games actually made a great port. Can't wait to pick this up tomorrow!
I was definitely hesitant when this game was announced for the Switch, but I'm super excited to see that it's been ported over so well. Good on these guys for the massive 180 they pulled!
I am so happy to hear that this port is excellent and I appreciate you guys being so very thorough. You all have been helping me make informed purchasing decisions for a long time now. Thank you for the wonderful review! See ya!
The amount of love the switch has been getting even with things like the steam deck out now is incredible! Keep it coming.
Steam deck is very niche
I mean, it is one of the best-selling consoles (with potential to become *the* best-selling console, although I personally doubt it), I assume that must be worth something?😅 While so far the Steam Deck has been enjoyed very much by more of a PC enthusiast niche, at least that's my perception.
The Steam Deck is a great option for PC gamers who want something mobile and more portable than a gaming laptop. You can tinker and modify the console to a degree to make it fit your gaming needs.
The Switch is still very much a pick up and play console. If all you want is something easy to play on the go or at home and you don't want to deal with tinkering or modifying the console, the Switch is still a very popular option, despite it's aging infrastructure.
@@benkizer9509 that's one of the good opinion for platform I think, most toxic gamer warrior must read your comment haha
Can someone help me explain what the meaning of "niche" and how to use it for sentences, I really have a bad english and everytime I read comment on a UA-cam videos about games, I always find this word "Niche"
I’m so glad this is running this well at launch! I was expecting issues but the devs have proven they are not the type to abandon their project so I can see things only improving from here. This would be my first time playing it so I’m pretty excited and can’t wait until I have a chance to pick it up!
Big props for the devs! They did the impossible!
Pretty damn impressive - Mark
More like they've been doing the impossible, how long have they been supporting this game.
@@LionAndroid Them sticking to the game shouldn't be commended; it should be expected since the launch was abysmal and much was lied about and wasn't in the game. It's like commending an adult for paying their bills; it should just be expected.
@@inputfunny I can commend them when the entire outlook of the game has switched so drastically. It was a joke at launch and now it's lauded. Yes, they needed to do their job to fix it but they've went above and beyond imo. All free updates as well. That's something to praise in this day and age.
@@tadeusticeghostal I disagree.
I had full confidence in hello games so I preordered NMS and everything you’ve said is music to my ears. I use my switch for handheld play only and I’m not bugged by no multiplayer at all so I’m really excited to dive in. Thanks for being the best switch games review channel always getting right to what I want to know!
Damn it, Mark! You are killing it with your reviews of these nearly releasing AAA games for Switch. Thank you so much for your hard work. Cheers!
Thank you Joshua mate! Mark
Wow, this is a feat! Props to the developers and all the team that worked hard on this. And given their track record, it will get better as we go
Yeah I’m still amazed a game like this runs this well on a portable device, also wonderful that all the updates are always free
I appreciate y'all doing this kind of deep dive into Switch ports - it's also v helpful that you already had so much experience with NMS on PC!
Been waiting for this review! It's good to know that this turned out into a great port, I have to admit I didn't have much hope for this. (also, I see what you did there Mark with those 16/16/16/16 scores haha)
so glad i saw this, ordered it ages ago and arriving on saturday was worried how it was going to turn out, but now i'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for he helpful review
So excited to finally get to jump in to this one after watching the devs really build this game up…I’m so glad it works!
I’m excited for this game. But I was holding my excitement until your review first to find out how it performed!
Holy shit how did i not know NMS was coming to switch!!! Ive been waiting for this for ages!
Oh it’s here mate! Mark
Really excited for the game, the devs have literally put their hearts and souls into it after the initial launch all those years ago and I hope they know how much we all appreciate it!
I’m still amazed such a huge game runs this well on the switch massive respect to the people handling the port 👏👏
Honestly, I was waiting for your review or this game. You always manage to be technical and detail-oriented enough to give a good impression without falling in the "expert-review" pitfall and scaring more casual viewers away.
And the focus you put on the soundtrack is so welcome! Are you a musician too by any chance?
Anyway, I might just buy it on Switch. I have a new shiny laptop, but also a baby on the way, and the ability to tackle it in short bursts might justify the graphical downgrade. Also, I am pretty positive multiplayer will come, sooner or later.
Cheers!
Thank you mate - appreciate it - we do try and keep it down to earth but still detailed. As for musician, no I’m not haha although I like to think I have a decent ear and am obsessed with headphones haha. Mark
@@SwitchUpYtonly the more reason to thank you for your great job. Cheers guys!
Thanks for showing this off and the detailed info across the board. I look forward to picking this up later this month.
This is exactly what i wanted when looking up a review for this game. Happy you came up as the second thumbnail, hopefully you'll be the most recommended. Cheers and congrats to the devs as well.
This is an amazing port for sure, the fact that he had a vision and saw that it didn't deliver. His name was not good. Yet through all of this he pulled off in my eyes one of the biggest gaming comebacks of this generation.
I've played this on several consoles now and my way I want to play this would be on the OLED. Be amazing if I won a copy. Great work on the review as usual
What an absolute delight this channel
Is, good honest review this one. I wish I could have a glen sidekick in no mans sky like I do in dragons dogma…
Hahahahah - I think it would be great addition! Mark
Been waiting all week for this performance review. Thanks Mark & Glen! Guess I'll get off the fence and go pre-order a physical copy now
Your reviews have long been spot-on, and since this is the first review in the wild I've seen of the Switch port, this is incredibly helpful. I think I'll be picking this one up.
So glad this looks good in handheld! This game has been on my radar for years!
Target had this on sale for $20 for switch. They were sold out so I Immediately snatched it from Best Buy with price matching. Even the cashier said damn that’s a great price. Originally got it for ps4 when they were like $5 when people hated it. I like being able to play it wherever I want. Also got back into it after watching interstellar for the 20th time. Love space travels.
Once again an amazing review. I have to say any time I look for Switch game reviews I will hunt down your review first, I appreciate your hard work and love how you do the scores breakdown, excellent 👍
I came right to your review when I saw it posted. I’ve been waiting for this, and I have my 19th and 20th major surgery next Tuesday so this will help my healing process hopefully. Great and honest review. Thanks.
I started playing NMS in 2017 and I LOVED it as it was. I was blown away that we can finally play games where the space is infinite and you can go everywhere you want. It was simple, with little content and endless exploration. However due to the game receiving big updates that altered it and added tons of new items I got totally lost, I'd turn on the game a week later and some of the essential materials I collected earlier are suddenly replaced by other materials and so on. Not to say that was a bad thing, it's just that I felt like I was part of early access or something and the game was changing a lot with each update. I hope to play it now on Switch and experience it the the way the dev wanted it to be.
Play in VR if you can! Gamechanger pur sang! Not going back to a flat screen, ever.
Is this game worth the purchase?
Great game and a great review. Really appreciate the work you guys put in
Been looking forward to this. Thanks for covering it!
The review we needed. Thanks Mark. I always wanted NMS, but now is the time for it I guess. Chilling on the couch exploring some space. Cheers.
This has been on my radar for ages at this point. Absolutely incredible that there is an immense universe to explore inside something so portable. As always, great review!
tbh this looks crap compared with the Steam Deck running the PC version which is also portable.
@@billfox6519 and how long is the battery life on steam deck ? 2 hours ?
@@cesare4214 tbh if you scaled the game down to the graphics settings to match the switch you’d prob get 4-5 hours
@@cesare4214 Depends on the game and whether you play it on 30 or 60fps. For example last night I was playing modded Skyrim and in the space of two hours my battery went from 99% down to 71%, tbh I'm totally fine with that. You can lock the framerate at 30fps if you want it to last longer than it does.
It never ceases to amaze me what talented devs who actually make the effort can produce on the Switch. It's obviously just one game so I'm hesitant to say Hello Games are up there with Panic Button or Virtuos, but still a solid port nevertheless. Hopefully they find a way to add multiplayer at some point down the line. Nintendo Life did a video about their time with the game and did ask the studio head about it. He didn't say no, but didn't make it sound promising either.
Then theres square enix who just slaps on a kingdom hearts cloud version on the switch.
@@stygy9929 but then they also commission a Nier Automata port that looks to be one of the best AAA ports the system has seen???
Square Enix, you confuse me
It’s about time we just give credit to the X1 chipset for how far it can push as a 7 year old piece of technology.
We saw Bright Memory Infinite which is insanely good looking on the Switch. With Doom Eternal/2016, The Witcher 3 and something like Warframe on top of NMS for a mobile chipset, it is incredible how much devs are able to milk the Tegra X1 which was already 2 years of age when the Switch launched.
The X1 is more powerful than what many people give it credit for. I have no doubt that if Square wanted to, Kingdom Hearts 3 can run natively.
@@ntdosplat3130 and I'd say they did this in response to the backlash they got with KH, which is encouraging. Mark
I’m really happy that you have reviewed this so quickly. Like many here, I was waiting to see what you had to say about it. I’ve never played the game and actually never owned a console before the switch (just lived with housemates who had consoles in my youth!) I’m loving getting into games a bit more properly and have preordered the physical of Nier this month. Not sure I can manage this in the same month, but seems it’s gonna be worth getting if it performs as well as you say! Cheers as always, you’ve introduced me to some fab games that I’d have had no idea about were it not for this channel
Was waiting for your review of this, glad to hear they did a great job porting it.
So much love for Hello Games for still sticking to this passion project and not running off with the money!
@@alpha-boss I have played PC since the launch, I'm sure they can improve loading of assets and *possibly* the image quality a little bit. Its already in a good state for the Switch but I'm sure there will be *some* improvements, maybe not anything massive in terms of fidelity but QoL etc.
Yeah Imo hell games and Cory towers are some of the best devs - ivory towers re the tram behind the crew game they released many great free additions to the crew 2 and I’m sure they will continue to add more and more things to the crew motorfest over time
I’ve been playing no man’s sky since the beginning when it was on PS4. If you haven’t played you’re in for a real treat and the fact that you can take it on the go is nothing short of amazing! Might haveta break down and buy it AGAIN.
No never played it, thinking about getting it for my switch, wasn't sure if it would be too slow/grindy for me.. maybe I'm just getting too old (47) 😁
@@psaunder1975 there is a bit of a grind in the beginning but it’s not bad imo. If you’re not sure you could probably wait for a sale.
I'm getting it. I've been waiting for this game to come to the Switch since it launched and this review only cemented my determination to get it.
Im ready glad you review this im looking forward to this
Quite impressive feat to get it on the switch, fingers crossed for some sort of multiplayer in the future
I think they will find a way! Mark
As some who has played this game since launch I have to admit seeing how much it has improved over the years is so amazing. There was a period where you could get the PS4 disc for dirt cheap because no one wanted it. Now it is one of the few games from those early days that has actually risen in price because of the turn around. Even seeing this on the Switch blows my mind and I think I have stopped thinking any port is impossible these days.
Yessss, it's finally here! Been waiting for this one!
I'm glad that I can share my passion for the switch with you guys. Thanks for all of your hard work guys 🙂
What a come back story this game is, good on the devs. I will buy this for switch eventually 😅
I was a bit on the fence with this game, but lately I am playing more and more handheld since I got my oled model and I think it would fit perfectly for me. Thanks for the review SwitchUp!
I live in Jamaica and i tried the website and i did get my discount. Big thanks to u guys. Really awesome game also, looking to pick it up later on, maybe on sale. Thanks again.
Thank you for making a review of the game and share your honest take on it. It does look impressive
I'm so happy to see that it's a great port! I'll definitely make use of the more relaxed mode :D Any game is a cozy game with the right attitude 😂
Nice review, once again. I like how you are able to balance the criticism with your own positive opinion of a game - it's very fair. Myself, I'd find it way too easy to give too high ratings if I liked a game as much as you do here.
Keep doing what you're doing!
Thank you mate
Best review I've seen yet...and it's really amazing how this game has transition over to switch without any major/noticeable issues......shoutout to the developers they have made the impossible possible
I'm so stoked for this!!! Thanks for the review guys!
Thanks for the review. Definite buy for me, not bothered about multiplayer as prefer solo gaming. Played it previously on PS4 and loved it then
Pre-ordered the game a week ago and I can’t wait to play it ❤
Thank you for the review, on the fence getting it for switch, as i played the PC version VERY extensively, found it hard to jump "down" a peg so to speak. But after the video, was reminded how much I love this game, and being able to play in this world on the go, knowing what it has in store, was hard to pass up, thanks for the reminder!
You guys continue to amaze me with your reviews. Keep up the good work.
I am looking forward to playing this game. Good survival games are sparse and often like finding a diamond in the rough.
Much appreciated for the review guys!
Always nice to see good open world games on switch! I recently played Subnautica and enjoyed it, so No Man's Sky is definitely on my "to play list"
Still amazed open world games like this and others run this good on a portable device like the switch 😳😯
I'm so excited for this one! Great video! I love the way you do reviews
I am amazed to see it looking this good on Switch! Thanks for the great review!
I was amazed, and skeptical, when this game was announced and (like this week's Nier Automata) is a very positive sign of the investment studios are putting in to making top tier games work on Switch. I'm not sure what to hope for next!
No man sky on Switch, an unimaginable feat by the developers!
Wow this looks great, thanks for the review video switchup!
I'd love that copy!!
Keep up the great work guys 💙
I was hoping NMS would come to switch, and it even looks to be a very decent port too! I'm not one for multiplayer, but to have the chill exploration on handheld is awesome! I just can't get myself to sit for hours behind my PC anymore lately. So I've been gaming on switch almost exclusively!
I’m amazed a massive ambitious game like this runs this well on a portable device like the switch
Looks great. Been waiting for this for a while. Hopefully multiplayer will eventually be an option.
Great review. Thank you! I may wait a little to pick up and see more gameplay first.
I've been waiting for this NMS review!
Back when I first got my Switch, I never imagined NMS would ever make it onto the system, so I bought a game called Morphite, which was hailed as something of a clone. Was a decent bit of fun, but I reckon I'll need to add the real deal to my Christmas list!
I love hearing about these "miracle" Switch ports. Goes to show that with the right resources and elbow grease it can happen on our aging hybrid device. I wasn't too interested in this before but I definitely am now. Recently checked it out on my Series X and it's awesome. Great review as always 👍
Yeah I would say hello games and also ivory tower are some of the best devs who actually care about their fan base - ivory tower are the team behind the crew games they released many great free additions to the crew 2 and I’m sure they will continue to add more and more things to the crew motorfest over time
Great review , you touched on all the concern points. I'll pick this up.
I always wait for the review to be sure to buy, glad it's a good port, I've been waiting for this!
No Man's Sky was a passion project that kept its promise to their fans. I am quite happy to see this natively on Switch, as I play it on my Steam Deck.
Yeah you’re right about the passion project. Mark
They didn't keep their promises. Lol Don't spread your ignorance.
haha lol youre a foking legend
@@BFTBGSFTST as I enjoy playing the game with no problem whatsoever, what seems to be the problem? Multiplayer is quite bad I know but other than that, I don't get it.
@@SwitchUpYt sort of like how your reviews are another well done passion project, perhaps?
I was a day 1 adopter and it truly was a hollow game. I started playing it again last month and it’s SO much better. The devs really redeemed themselves and created a masterpiece even though it took years to do so.
Same, huge changes
I’m so excited to pick this up tomorrow!!!!
Happy that its looks well! Will definitely getting this next time!
The devs of this game are amazing
Astonishing really! Mark
Was waiting for this. Already have it on PC and now I feel comfortable getting it in a handheld format.
Great review as always!
I really like your review score system. It really is one of the clearest I've seen.
Ooh I’ve been waiting to see this one!
Well this is a very pleasant surprise! Definitely need to get this, great review as ever!
I've just started this on Switch. Absolutely incredible! I waited for the reviews before buying day one to see if it was as good as I hoped. The reviews are overall positive, and rightly so.
I've never played No Man's Sky but (as a primarily handheld gamer) this switch port is tempting! thanks for the thorough performance test!
For sure will be picking this up at some point. Always followed the progress of the game from before its launch but never played it myself but now its on switch all thats about to change!
Another incredible review Mark! Quality as always!
Thanks for the video! I always wanted to pay this one, this was very helpful!
Great video, I've been playing no man's sky for years on my playstation 4, can't wait to start a fresh run on the switch version.
I was so excited this release and am even more eager to play it on switch now! Thanks for the great honest reviews, I exclusively always check for your reviews before buying a Switch game :)
Thanks Mark and Glen. You guys are the best around.
Thank you mate! Mark
I'm rolling for that copy! Love the content, guys. Cheers
Thanks for the review and performance comments. I'd been waiting to see/read reviews before committing to the Switch version and it sounds like it's overall an amazing port. Obviously I wonder and worry about performance 30, 60+ hours into the game with lots done and explored and all of that, but only time will tell with that.
Thanks for the review. Been waiting for it to make my decision of buying it.
Woo! I’ve had my eye on this for years! Can’t wait to save up for this one!!
Soooo looking forward to this! Great review
I've been waiting for this game and review from yall! I'd be blown to win this from yall!
Someone is gonna be in for a gem of a game!
