I remember when the Dumble was $5000 USD. I thought that was a lot in 1982. If you can find an Overdrive Special by Dumble, they regularly cost around $50,000USD. They do not hang around very long even at that price.

great review, and I like the dumble sound, I was up front for srv. before he played a dumble and after, it was incredible boost of quality ,I saw eric Johnson with a dumble, and with out. it was close but dumble gave him a beautiful edge.its odd how a lot of people get upset about it but violin player use bows that cost more than dumbles.if you are playing the best music in the world it's nice to have edge and control you want.

The Dumbleator aka the effects loop that should have been built into the amp in the first place.

What kind of guitar pick does Larry Carlton use?

I have heard Robben Ford play through his $3000 Dumble Overdrive Special and through an old Fender Deluxe with a Zendrive in front of it, and he sounded exactly the same. I even think the Zendrive does a better Dumble than the amp does. It's warmer and more alive sounding to me. ThebDumble boost a certain midrange frequency all guitarists love, but you can achieve a similar result without having to ask for the Carfax first!!!

The Zendrive sounds good for sure. But Robben will sound like himself no matter what he plays through.

Heard Robben Ford playing through both setups on different occasions. He always sounds great, but the Dumble was way better to my ear. I have a Zendrive and some nice amps, but can't get anywhere near a Dumble (I have an early Two Rock that gets close though :-) )

that's crazy man,an electr. engineer can built it for a lot less.BTW.,i play a hook 20 watt amp ,it has cost me 1300 dollars and gives an incredible sound, clean and overdriven.

They should call them Dumb Bell amps! The sound is in your hands. I have a friend who had an awesome Mesa Boogie Mark IIC and traded it plus about $2000 for a Dumble Overdrive Custom. He was thunderstruck when I told him the Mesa sounded much better. Guys that claim Dumbles are way better than everything else are drinking the KoolAid.

Yeah...the Dumbles go for $ 20,000 today. If someone has to have a 20,000 dollar amp to get good tone they need to re-think their choice of instrument . It must be an ego thing. Stevie Ray...Robben Ford...Larry Carlton do not need to pay that much for an amp to get great tone. I guess they do it because they can. Even if I had a million dollars to go gear shopping with, I would not insult my own intelligence and buy a Dumble. Howard Dumble must think is god-like.
