How Apple Made The iMac So Thin

- Apple just introduced their new generation of iMac at the Spring Loaded event, and it has a lot of new features. Including a FaceTime camera, spacial audio, and a professional studio mic array. But what's getting most of the attention is the iMac's new design. It's not only colorful, but also super thin. Over 3x thinner than the previous generation iMac model. So how was Apple able to pull this off? Well that’s what I, Greg from Apple Explained, will be explaining right now.

The Ethernet port in the power brick is a stroke of genius! And these new iMacs looks so cool!
the new imacs are the best apple has released, even though they killed upgradability by combining everything into the m1 chip, its so much better than the last imacs

They basically said the same thing during the event there was nothing to figure out :/
Not really, this is only due to new M1 chips that Apple announced last year.

First of all, why a desktop needs to be so thin?
It's obvious: because it takes less space, looks better and more modern
you arent gonna save that much space with that giant stand anyway @@rubenquirosnaranjo
Apple. Apple just does this.
@@rubenquirosnaranjo it takes nearly the same amount of space because it's standing upright and the stand has to go somewhere. Sure, it looks more modern but, and hear me out, most people who actually buy iMacs use them for productivity so design is secondary to performance.

I'm usually an "anti-apple" person because of the status associated with the brand, high prices and lack of new technologies in some devices that people still buy at high prices because of the status. But they have really awesome products and this engineering is absolutely amazing, I loved the Ethernet port idea
yea i think they could achieve more if they didnt keep constantly releasing the same exact iphone, ipad and imac everytime
They have value for price though in terms of performance also like video rendering and much heavier applications
@@aayampokhrel8868 what do you mean? video encoding, yes, rendering, no.

Alternate way to know why it is so thin: “its because of the M1 chip…which is kinda magic” -Apple 2021
Maybe that's why they cost so much. Because the chips have magic inside of them.
@@yourlocalidiot69420i don't know about imac, but macbooks have fair price. Macbook air m1 can beat any intel or amd 5k dollars laptop, so i think it is cheap for what you got for it. There are some overpriced stuffs but macbooks and imac have fair price

What a great and detailed review!

It’s pretty incredible that they packed so much power into such a thin profile. Such a shame they don’t make the easily repairible/upgradeable.
As always Greg the first thing I do is press like on ur video before I watch it because I already know u are going to deliver an amazing video. Love ur channel and what u do I've learnt alot from ur channel.
I was very curious how they made the iMac so thin. Fantastic, succinct and clear explanation. Subscribed.
It's really pointless to make it thinner since the actual desk footprint will be more than occupied by the stand and the actual "functional empty space" required. But it is nice though. I would have preferred a thicker Imac with more options.
To be fair it allows for stuff to be put on the desk behind the mac. What I think apple should do though is sell a mounting plate that would allow for a painting style computer.
@@loganhallahan164 great idea. I planned that with my tv
@@loganhallahan164 What would you put behind the iMac that benefits from the few extra inches of space?
Seriously, what’s the point. Also Intel has already combined the CPU, GPU and RAM in 2017, pretty sure apple took that and rebranded it. It’s pretty much an APU but with random access memory.
But really, who needs it to be that thin, guess Apple wants you to just waste more money buying a converter to use the thunderbolt ports and an SD card.
@@aiden8794 SOCs have been around much longer than 2017.
I’m glad that Apple returned to their 1998 roots, but put a very impressive modern spin on their new iMac.
omg the explanation is simple fast and good this video quality is fantastic
It's so incredible to see how far technology has come. We have these new, slimmer iMacs nowadays, but if you look back 20 years ago, at the iMac G5, it was much, much bulkier. Awesome!
Deserved many more subs. Not a 100% apple person but intrigued by some of the actions making they did and you explained it nicely.

Intel: wait you cant do that!
Very good video. You explained it very well.
Apple is just amazing!!! And Greg love your content, been playing it all so informative!
2:23 why they didn't remove headphone jack?
(they removed it from iphones in 2016, then why they are keeping it in macs?)
Because those are premium Macs and there’s enough space to fit the port in, Apple removed it from iPhones because they wanted to make them thinner and more waterproof
Pro users need the headphone jack so there's no audio latency but correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow incredible video, I like the way you explain the new iMac 🖥 👍🏼
The question is: was it REALLY necessary to make it this thin?
Good video and very nice editing! 🙂
I mean, technologically speaking, screens have been getting thinner since its conception - on any device that has one.
Lest not forget this is economically and environmentally sound since -- other than the fact that the the M1 chip is an encompassing powerhouse that would save money and the Earth, it would be more efficient in any process of logistics to transport these light and thin machines around.
crapple has always been like that
making it thinner no matter the cost
Very impressive design solutions by Apple. Especially integrating the ethernet with the power.

I might would use Apple computers if they were as open to use as Windows. They are just too restrictive in what you can do and put on them. Though I like using Laptops, and with Windows, I have a large variety of different hardware configurations to choose from. As for example, so manufacturers make their mouse buttons very hard to press down, which would be fatiguing to push all day long. With Apple, you're always stuck with whatever hardware they choose.
I was disappointed by how the new models still had bezels around the screen, even more so (verging on annoyance) that they made it light so it was guaranteed to stand out. ...but the screen is still larger and how/where they repositioned the Ethernet is a stroke of genius. The colours harken back to the days of the classic iMac (I've seen some compare them to other products that came out later) and are a nice touch to help make your Mac yours. Power connecter is great and the lack of I/o is no biggie even though there's bound to be backlash. USB-C hubs are extremely cheap and affordable for anybody nowadays. For around £15-£20 you can get several USB-A, ethernet, SD card slot AND HDMI.
The audio jack on the side is a nice touch as well and will make it much easier to find. I did notice the lack of the Apple logo sticker on the front though. I may have just not noticed it but I didn't spot a logo anywhere. Feels kinda naked without it.
Absolutely smashed that like button.
