  • Another star who spent years recording and performing before hitting superstar status was Lou Rawls. Lou is best known for his 1976 hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine," as well as his gutsy Budweiser commercials. Lou began recording in 1959, and as a Capitol Records artist from 1961 to 1971 Lou had recorded several albums with David Axelrod as producer, and the soulful arranger H. B. Barnum. Barnum used Leon Russell as a pianist because he knew Leon's playing would add magic to the recordings. Here is Lou singing the title track from his album Come On In, Mr. Blues, written by Clea Bradford, and the Randy Newman song "Love is Blind." Both songs were on separate singles. The liner notes on the 1969 Pickwick re-release of the Capitol album read, "Lou Rawls is not yet a super-star." After signing with MGM Records Lou scored big and became a super- star. The songs here have some great piano work by Leon. The other musicians included guitarists Ray Pohlman, Jimmy Bond, Rene Hall, and Carol Kaye, and Earl Palmer on drums.

Why did they release this album under Pickwick while he was under contract with Capitol??

I think it was on Capitol first, then Pickwick released it a budget version. I have not seen a Capitol issue.

@@leonrussellsuperstarinamas6728 I would like to see the Capitol version before Pickwick picked it up.
