Love this band. I've been playing guitar since I was 15 in 77. This band motivated me to play guitar along with some others. Great reaction. John Sykes is an epic guitarists. RIP the singer.
I love this band. Thin Lizzy is one of my top 5. Others being Megadeth, Mastodon, Black Flag, and the Danzig. They were just so good. The duel guitar leads. The voice, all of it.
Think about this. When they were performing, they were the most diverse band. Black and white. Catholic and Protestant. They were a mix band in the troubles.
I am not sure if anyone answered this already but yes, the singer Phil Lynott is black, his dad was black but his mother white. My favorite songs from them: Black Rose, Rosalee, The Rocker, Don't Believe a Word, Chinatown, Emerald and Whiskey in a Jar.

Phil Lynott was Irish and one of the very few black musicians in Ireland back in the seventies (Back then there were very few black people in Ireland). They have a statue of him in Dublin. Many hits in the UK Charts. "Whiskey in the Jar" "The Boys Are Back in Town" "Jailbreak" "Cowboy Song" "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)" "Waiting for an Alibi" "Do Anything You Want To" "Sarah" "Killer on the Loose" "Chinatown" "Cold Sweat" not forgetting Parisienne Walkways recorded and Co written with Gary Moore. The opening line, "I remember Paris in '49", was an amendment of the line as it appeared in the original sheet music - "I remember Paris in the fall tonight" - and refers to Phil's missing father, Cecil Paris, and his birth-year, 1949. A lament for the father he never had, dressed up in romantic nostalgia.
Some awesome songs listed. Personal favorites mentioned: Bad Reputation Black Rose Killer On The Loose Jailbreak Some other personal favorites not mentioned yet: Waiting For An Alibi Hollywood (Down On Your Luck) Toughest Street In Town Wild One Thunder and Lightning The Sun Goes Down - which is a ballad that has Phil singing at his most soulfulness. This band is sort of still around. They got a new singer, new drummer and a new name. They are called Black Star Riders now and the new drummer is Jimmy Degrasso who played the drum solo on the Megadeth She-Wolf Live video.
How could you not have heard this song before, unless you never listen to Classic Rock radio stations? When I was building my playlist, the only video I could find was an animated Lego version.
The beginning is funny cause they originally were going to call the band "Tin Lizzie" after a comic strip. Then Phil said, " lets do it "Thin Lizzy" because the Irish people will still pronounce it like "tin" and do a "y" instead of "ie" just to make it a little more different. Of course, you gotta do "The Rocker" from their 3rd album. The original version. Not edited.
Lynott was born in 1949 to an Irish mother and a father who was from Guyana in the West Indies and his mother and they met in England were they had both gone to seek work. Whilst the father sent money it was his mother who raised Lynott and his first years were spent in England but after he'd experienced racism for being of mixed race his mother sent him to live with his Irish grandparents in Ireland were he had from his own accounts a very happy upbringing and his grandfather provided him with a father figure. From all accounts Lynott had a great and loving family and although feeling different loved being Irish and compared himself to a pint of Guinness, black and Irish. Sadly Lynott developed a drink and drug problem which eventually caused him to collapse at home on Xmas Day 1985 and after being taken to hospital he was diagnosed as suffering from septicaemia, his conditioned worsened and after being put on a ventilator he died of pneumonia and heart failure caused by the septicaemia 10 days after being admitted.
To be introduced to the band definitively the live "Alive in Dangerous" relased in 1978 at the first and best period 1974-1978 with the 2 twin guitars Brian Roberston and Scott Gorham
Thin Lizzy is an Irish band and I believe the band chose "Thin" instead of "Tin" because Irish often do not pronounced the "H" when it's "TH" so the word "thin" would sound like "tin" anyway. I watch a number of Irish UA-camrs, mostly on the Try Channel and the old Facts channel and you can hear sometimes they do not pronounce the "H". Just a fun bit of trivia, which may or may not be true. However, Thin Lizzy is a really good band which only had a few hits in America but much bigger in Great Britain. I didn't dig into their catalog until many years later.
This was one of Cliff Burtons (Metallica) favorite bands. I saw an interview with Cliff's Father and he was going through Cliff's record collection and it looked like he had just about all of their albums.
