I loosen the knob on my baitcasters so that the lure/bait falls at the fastest rate to where, when it hits the ground the spool doesn't backlash. That's my perfect setting.

It takes me a max of 20 seconds to adjust if I'm switching between a heavy & light lure, but I get way more distance than just adjusting thumb pressure if I'm long casting

That's a great point. Agree some times just thumbing it works better than adjusting the knob.
