Fantastic job of explaining everything. It is a little unusual to see someone demonstrate and yet run into a problem but you dealt with it and was honest about solving the issue. You did a great job!
I just purchased an Instant Pot and beginning my journey on how to use it. I am grateful to you for giving this tutorial on the basic use of the product. Thank you.
BTW, the silicon seal ring around the lid WILL pick up and retain odors from spicy foods. Amazon has replacement rings for a couple of dollars. We use one for cooking savories and the other just for our yogurts and deserts.
This is by far the most helpful Instant Pot tutorial I've found on UA-cam. I shared in on the Instant Pot Community on Facebook. It's easy to follow and straight forward. Thanks so much for your help!
In another video I saw that one tip was to use the trivet, pour some water and then put on top another pot (can be glass oven safe or stainless steel) that way you can put your meat with less water on that pot while under the trivet there is more water to help with the pressure. Either way I think this product could be a good buy. Thanks for the review!
Dean Johnson I routinely use 1/2 to 1 cup of water with mine. And my valve never needs a manual assist to release. She must a sticking valve. Mine works perfectly.
Tony Locicero It appears this review was more of a first impression with out actually any knowledge of how to properly use the Instant Pot. I love my Instant Pot and use it almost daily. Like you I don't find it necessary to use that much water unless I want to for the recipe. And obviously the time it takes to come up to heat and build up steam varies by recipe as well. 😊
You are right. I for one don't use the poultry button ... Looks like she had it on low pressure for the rice .. BUT You need high pressure for the pot to work on the poultry this is why you had so much water in the pot at the end of cooking time.. She did use to much water..
This review was incredibly helpful! I just got an instant pot to take to college with me and I was a little afraid of using it, but this showed me that it was simpler than I assumed. I mostly make rice or other grains and beans so this should be great. I used to have to sit by the stove whenever I was cooking rice or chicken but now I can do homework or study without worrying something's going to spill over or go wrong.
My compliments on a very well explained and helpful video. I am considering buying this same unit for my wife. It pleased me that you touched on the things that may go wrong in the use of the cooker, but you had the good sense to figure it out and convey your unbiased thoughts on getting it right again. Well done, thank you. Ed
I love the Instant pot but haven't even looked at the manual. Videos like your and others' pretty much cover everything. All I can really do to show appreciation is sub and give a thumbs up. Thank you!
Just thought I'd update the comments I made last month. I ended up buying the 5 quart Instant Pot Duo as other reviews and comments elsewhere were so positive. I'm glad I did. The water amount is not an issue: it works well with a 1 cup minimum of water. I love its ease of use; the fact that you can leave it to function on its own is a definite plus!
Really interesting comments about the volume of water required compared to a stove top version. I have a late model Fagor duo and I love using it for Risotto, stews etc because there’s no excess fluid. Still, the Instant Pot looks good, convenient, and well priced, so I think I’ll get one. Excellent presentation, thank you.
I LOVE this video! It is a GREAT introduction to the unit ... and to pressure cooking in general. I LOVE that you chose to leave in there what happens when things do not go well!!!! Thank you!
This was a fantastic review. I'm sure if you contacted the company and explained about the water issue they could help you either figure out what's wrong or send you a replacement lid. I just receved mine for xmas and am hoping it works without issues. Thanks for sharing!
It’s been exactly one year since I bought this device. Quite honestly, it is the most useful kitchen appliance I have ever owned! I bought it to make yogurt, but it does so much more. One side effect which I have not seen mentioned is the savings in electricity. My bills are way down!
At least 1 cup liquid is necessary. Using broth is a good option instead of water. If unit is not coming to pressure, and especially if you sauteed anything, if you didn't de-glaze the pot, the pot will detect that and will think there's something scorched on the bottom of the pot (and there just might be), which will kick in that safety feature. Remove the food, de-glaze the pot with a bit of water or broth and a wooden spoon, place the food in again, make sure the sealing ring is in well (I find rinsing it in cold water before replacing is helpful), lock lid, set to "sealing," and program. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Cooking rice I was surprised you did not have to use any olive oil into the rice water. I ordered my Instant Pot and can't wait until it arrives this week. Summer Cooking Yummy!! Great Review Thank You.
+bestkitchenreviews Thank You I can't wait to follow some of your wonderful recipes. :>) My Mouth is already watering. Thanks, Excited to cook under pressure.
I just picked one of these up off of Amazon and I was more than a little intimidated. Thank you for walking through the product, it's uses and some simple projects. You're awesome!
I received my Instant Pot about ten days ago. I ran the water test and it worked perfectly. Next day I followed some UA-cam videos and cooked a pot roast that came out wonderful. A few days later I prepared everything, seared and started a beef stew but the pot wouldn't pressurize. I tried everything including making sure the pressure valve was clean and the seal was properly seated but nothing worked. I ended up finishing the stew in the oven. I should mention that when I received the Instant Pot I noticed that the cover over the pressure valve I'd seen in the UA-cam videos before I ordered mine was missing. So I eMailed the manufacturer who responded promptly and told me the design was changed and that cover was no longer needed. So it seems that problems with this pressure valve is not something new. Bottom line is the Instant Pot concept is very seductive and I'd really like to have one but it seems there is a lurking failure in the design that I'd rather not have to worry about. So I eMailed Amazon and they had UPS pick mine up today for a refund. I wonder how many others have had failures after initial success(es). Should I consider myself lucky that mine quit working early-on rather than after the warranty period expired.
The video was excellent. I'm glad you didn't 'cover up' the mistakes. It's nice to know that everything that companies sell, aren't perfect. I think, tho', after watching this video, I'll stick with my Power Pressure Cooker XL. Thanks for the very thorough video.
I received this lovely cooker for Christmas and have been playing around with it to see what I can and can not do with it. I have never used a pressure cooker and this one seems to have SOO many options and features. I like this. I actually had just one question. There doesn't seem to be anything electrical in the lid itself and while I will not be placing it in the dishwasher, I wonder if it is safe to wash it under running water with a scrubby in the sink. The first time i washed it it took me a long time because I tried not to use too much water (just in case). After a couple of uses though I am getting braver and rinsed the inside of the lid under running tap water. It is now nice and squeaky clean and did not seem to impact the unit in a negative way. I would feel a lot better knowing that I can do this again and I didn't just get lucky the one time by rinsing it. Thanks again for the great review. I appreciate the honesty and the way you showed the sautee feature. very cool :)
+Iwonka K. Hi Iwonka, glad you liked the review! The lid can be washed in warm soapy water with no issues so don't worry :) Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
Debating on whether or not to purchase a pressure cooker, and have been doing my research on different brands... Thanks for posting this video, very helpful👍
When I retired I took over most of the cooking and cleaning of the kitchen and have been happy doing so. I received an Instant Pot for Christmas and have been mad and upset ever since. The only thing I have managed to cook without a Burning sign coming up is boiled eggs. I thought I'd try it again today and once again the Burning sign came up. I am an old man (will be 70 this year) and I don't do well with new toys. I'll keep cooking with conventional pots, pans and dutch ovens. Sorry, but I just had to take my rage out about this thing and get it out of my system.
Excellent video thank you 🙏 I just got the exact model today and I noticed the pressure valve is much different they yours so maybe they've updated the units since this video was made so we don't have to use as much liquid always. I notice ok box mine says Insta pot duo60 V3 (version 3) I'm guessing.
This has been the most helpful review I have ever seen!! I learned so much from this video!! I saved this video to watch it again. :) THANK YOU!! My insta pot did not come with the manual and cook book you talked about. Do you know where i can get this?
A good review except, 9:57 even stovetop pressure cooking would require minimum one cup of water otherwise the same result would happen with only half a cup of water where it evaporates away instead of building pressure. Besides. a pressure cooker isn't to be used in lieu of conventional cooking. It's mainly meant for dishes like stews, sauces, soups and anything which requires a lot of liquid for cooking. I have cooked ribs, fryers and roasts in mine by using the steam tray so the food isn't immersed in the liquid. I did add one to one and a half cups of liquid depending on how much meat I was cooking. I wouldn't bother using it for rice as it takes twenty-five plus minutes just to cook something I know I can do in fifteen minutes or less on the stovetop or the rice cooker.
An excellent review! So glad you pointed out the water amount issue; this has made me decide not to purchase the cooker as I want to be able to cook smaller amounts.
+William Hill Hi William, thanks so much - glad you liked the review! Some people have commented that they used less water and it seemed to work for them. My unit may have had a defective float valve, I really am not sure since I didn't review a second, different unit. Maybe I should! I would suggest trying out the cooker, if it doesn't work with a small amount of water, you can always return it/exchange it. Hope that helps :)
+bestkitchenreviews Just a post-note: I watched your review of the Vitamix and the Blendtec blenders, which was also very well done. Your review helped greatly in my decision as to which one to buy. I ended up purchasing the Vitamix, and I am very happy with my purchase. So.thank you again!
Thank You for a Great Video and Great Review of this Instant Pot!! I've been searching the internet and You Tube for all reviews of this product, and I do believe that now I have gained all the info to make me buy this Amazing Product!!! !!!
very clear and helpful video.. thank you for reviewing. I learned a lot - just got my pc today so I want to review how to use it before I get to cooking. I have a Fagor pressure cooker which I use all the time on our induction stove top. Can't say enough good things about that.. Crock pot died and now buried.. Prefer and now replaced it with the Instant Pot. Im sure it will get a lot of use as I never seem to get out of the kitchen! :)
+D. Polly P. Hi, you're welcome! Glad the review was helpful. There are endless recipes for pressure cookers so I'm sure you will get a lot of use out it. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
thank you! this is my 3rd pressure cooker. 2 were bought at our local thrift shop (gave the first one to my daughter) Im totally sold on cooking w a pc and tell all my friends...lol
So it takes 9 minutes to warm up before you start cooking? On my traditional pressure cooker Itcan boil a cup or two of water in under a minute and then have the potatoes cooked wihin three minutes! I thought the main advantage of a steam pressure cooker is speed?
In the review you did say not to fill it too much, what about if you have a big family or party and want to cook a tad bit more, say near full would that be a problem (explosively)? Kinda like stand by the doorway while it pressurizes just in case? Does it have a safety feature for scatter-brains like me who will forget the valve is not unsealed and try to open the lid? Does it have a safety feature to prevent lid opening before depressurizing? Nice review, I have always looked at pressure cookers such as these as I would a tamed lion or a toothless tiger, It can bite if it forgets it is tamed...Do you feel safe standing near it while it cooks? Or do you have to have one hand on your door knob?
Hi, with any pressure cooker - you shouldn't fill above the max line marked inside the pot. There is safety lid lock, so you can't open the lid under pressure. There is also a sensor for lid position, so you can't operate the unit if the lid is not properly sealed. Lol, I don't have one hand on my door knob! I feel it's safe to use and has plenty of safety mechanisms. Hope that helps :)
Lol🤣 Rice isn't soup. Chicken releases water when cooking and a 1/2 to 1 cup of water would have been enough; she simply added too much water. This unit doesn't cook only soup. You can even make yogurt plus the sautee function helps a lot when you just want some sauce and not soup; Just like she said you can simmer down your liquid. This is a great unit. Thank you🙏🏾
My duo 6 qt did not come with the plastic utensils, just the trivet and 2 sealing rings, a red and clear one. My block shields are small and round, not oblong. Interesting that they vary the model.
Loved your review and thank you for taking the time to educate me. I want to buy one but still shy of doing so because seems there are problems and issue's with them. Do you think this is so?
Hi, thank you - glad the video was helpful. The pressure cooker worked well overall. Like I had mentioned before, the water issue may be because I had a defective unit. Others have commented that they did not have the same issue with their unit. I would definitely give this pressure cooker a try. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
Thank you for your reply. andre id, I agree with you that there are to many chief's and not enough Indians in the world. People are very selfish, always want to be on top and stubborn. Sorry I went off the path here. LOL I did do some homework on most pressure cookers and think I seem to be leaning toward the Instant pot, because sources say it does not have dangerous metals that food cook on. I do like that aspect. Thanks again and take care :)
You talked about the excess liquid left over-- could you remove everything but the liquid when it's done and then use the leftover liquid to switch to rice cooker mode and cook rice with it, rather than waste it, or will it let you switch from one mode to another like that? Thanks!
+uncleelroy2 Hi, you can press the cancel button to cancel any setting. Then, choose another setting such as rice to cook the rice in the remaining liquid. It's best to follow the liquid to rice ration in the guide :)
JUST so you know.... you don't have to put that much liquid and it will still steam I use wine or chichen broth for my liquid instead. I know this because I ruined so many dishes by following there instructions. good luck
The trivet that comes with the unit could have been used to elevate the chicken up out of the liquid. The chicken would have cooked the same and still absorbed the flavor from the spices, onion, etc...
Hi! Has the issue with having to put more water (min 2 cups) in the unit been resolved with the new version of the InstaPot?? Don't want a soupy meals, lol! Great presentation by the way!! A+
I like fluffy rice where the grains don't stick together. Will this cooker do that? It didn't look very fluffy in the demo. I'm still trying to decide which brand of pressure cooker to get.
Very nice and thorough review! 1/2 cup of water should be plenty to reach and maintain pressure in the chicken dish you were demonstrating, though it may take longer than the two minutes you allowed to reach pressure. As you correctly point out, the Instant Pot allows for very little evaporation, less than other electric pressure cookers tested. Join us here if you like: facebook.com/groups/InstantPotCommunity/
If you do review on any Elite, pls note whether there is ability to select pressure: High or low...I couldn't find one that offered this & there are times when low is needed. Thanks !
@@bestkitchenreviews ok great thank you very much I'm sorry to ask another dumb question but how does the timer work exactly on the ? IP 😀? CUZ I Thought I HAD SET THE WATER TEST FOR STEAM, & 2MINS BUT IT Actually TOOK 2 HOURS 😀! SO LIKE( 24 HOURS) PER SAY WOULD ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE 2400 ON THE ACTUAL TIMER ? ? CUZ MINE HAS _ _ _ _2: _0 _0 OR TO SET IT FOR 2 MINS WOULD I TAP IN OR JUST A 2 WITHOUT THE ZEROS BEHIND IT ? MINE Didn't COME WITH OWNERS MANUAL SO I Really WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR Help PLEASE ON FIGURING OUT THIS TIMER 🙏 THANK YOU
Thank you for the great video. I'm a newbie and wondering who I should contact for some troubleshooting issues..?? Also from the video, I was wondering how much rice would you add to the liquid from the chicken? I'm not certain of the liquid/rice ratio.
+Tracey Petitt Hi Tracey, I used 3 cups of water and 2 cups of rice with the included measuring cup. I would contact Instant Pot for any issues, here is their info page - instantpot.com/contact-us/ Hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
Thank you for posting this. Maybe I could use your instructions, since I've contacted this company several times about the fact that I just bought it and don't have the instruction manual or any of the enclosed information. They have completely ignored me. From what I could see there is no instruction manual on their website. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get a response from them thanks I haven't watched your video yet but I would still enjoy having the materials. I wrote a bad review on Amazon because of this experience but they still have ignored me. Thanks
Yours is the most detailed review with absolutely no unnecessary irrelevant chatter.
Please keep up the good work.
Thanks so much 😀
Great video. I forwarded it to my son who moved out on his own and was looking for a crock pot. I told him this is the way to go.

Hi Diane, glad you like the video! You probably have the LUX model that doesn't have a poultry setting. I reviewed a different model - DUO.

+Pappy You're welcome - glad the review helped. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
very good review.. Try applying a drop of olive oil on the valve before cooking..
Thanks Don :)
very clear and helpful video.. thank you for reviewing.
Very helpful video. I'm a newbie and this really answered a lot of questions for me. Thank you!

Very helpful, thanks!
So it takes 9 minutes to warm up before you start cooking? On my traditional pressure cooker Itcan boil a cup or two of water in under a minute and then have the potatoes cooked wihin three minutes! I thought the main advantage of a steam pressure cooker is speed?
This was an excellent review! Great job!
Thanks so much! Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
How long does the float valve to be closed normally?
Great video! Love the detailed review! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it Tina 😀
You’re awesome. Fantastic reviews!
Great video! Thank you for all the tips.
😀👍
It only takes a cup on many things. Nice video
Great review, very helpful. Thank you! :)
You’re welcome 😀
That was a really useful review - I don't want all my food to be soup so I won't waste my money. Thank you!
Thank you🙏🏾
Hi there Anita , great review as always. Have a great weekend hon
Thanks, Carol! Enjoy your weekend 😀
Good review. I'm still deciding what pressure cooker brand to get. Keep up the good work.
+Que Parker Thanks Que, wonderful to hear positive comments :)
My duo 6 qt did not come with the plastic utensils, just the trivet and 2 sealing rings, a red and clear one. My block shields are small and round, not oblong. Interesting that they vary the model.
best reviews on youtube!
Thanks 😀
Very nice review. You save some people a lot of time with your tips
Hi Tim, thanks! It's always great to hear positive feedback :)
I know this because I ruined so many dishes by following there instructions. good luck
Good job quality video, just a little echo I'm not sure if it's from the set or mic. (Rode mic.)
Thank you for help can I use in this instant pot of inner steel pot of Nova inner 6qts pot ?
Plz waiting for your reply
can this pot stick when frying as I see it's stainless steel which I actually prefer. Very clear demo. Thanks!
Hi Susan, I sauteed onions and there was no sticking to the bottom. I have not deep fried in it, if that's what you mean. Glad you liked the review :)
Perfect....I’m off to buy one...THANKS😉
Wonderful :)
Thank you 🙏🏽
Could you do a video on the farberware instant pot 7 and 1
The trivet that comes with the unit could have been used to elevate the chicken up out of the liquid. The chicken would have cooked the same and still absorbed the flavor from the spices, onion, etc...
Good review, top bad there wasn’t time reserved from how to clean the entire unit.
Excellent -clear explanation ,don’t need to read manual now Tx.
+Mo Mo You’re welcome 😀
excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing! I just fired up my new Instant Pot cooking some pinto beans. Also new subscriber! 👍😎
Yummy pinto beans! Welcome to my channel 😀
Thank you that's was soo helpfully as I wanted to know what the size of the instant pot was x
Glad it was helpful 😀
Are the instant pot lids interchangeable?
Hi! Has the issue with having to put more water (min 2 cups) in the unit been resolved with the new version of the InstaPot?? Don't want a soupy meals, lol! Great presentation by the way!! A+
Nice review and demo expect for the discussion of the minimum amount of liquid needed. You do not need to use 2 cups.
Can you use the instant pot ultra lid on the instant pot dual?
I like fluffy rice where the grains don't stick together. Will this cooker do that? It didn't look very fluffy in the demo. I'm still trying to decide which brand of pressure cooker to get.
Very nice and thorough review! 1/2 cup of water should be plenty to reach and maintain pressure in the chicken dish you were demonstrating, though it may take longer than the two minutes you allowed to reach pressure. As you correctly point out, the Instant Pot allows for very little evaporation, less than other electric pressure cookers tested.

Thanks 😀
Great review. Thank you!
+Corey Falkin Thanks Corey, glad you enjoyed the review :)
great review. I don't like the water level issue. I have the elite brand. if you can, do a review on that please.
+cbelindadavis Thanks, glad you liked the review :) I will try to do the elite.
If you do review on any Elite, pls note whether there is ability to select pressure: High or low...I couldn't find one that offered this & there are times when low is needed. Thanks !
Love my Instant Pot.
I had a bad experience with my mom's pressure cooker so I'm a little uneasy as to when I can safely open the lid after the water test ?
The float valve drops down when the pressure inside is released - then it’s safe to open 😀
@@bestkitchenreviews ok great thank you very much
I'm sorry to ask another dumb question but how does the timer work exactly on the ? IP 😀? CUZ I Thought I HAD SET THE WATER TEST FOR
STEAM, & 2MINS BUT IT Actually TOOK 2 HOURS 😀!

I would contact Instant Pot for any issues, here is their info page - instantpot.com/contact-us/
Hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)
TFS picking up my insta pot soon.
+chemicallyfreenolye Great! 😀
Great review which could have been better with a good microphone. They're not that expensive.
try making it on slow cook so you have control over liquid or try manual, steam or pressure cook
Thanks
Hi, you're welcome. Here is the link to the manual:
