I was in the camp of “oh these guys are going to get annoying real fast” when the game was revealed but I’ve been playing the game to completion (on world 6 now) and I adore these little guys. I think I know why? The flowers’ dialogue doesn’t feel cynical. Sure, they may repeat what is happening on screen sometimes but it’s not really a “well that just happened”, they feel more surprised and genuine. They’re also incredibly supportive as well, particularly in the racing segments. I think that’s what makes them less annoying to me and possibly others: they have a childlike wonder about the world. They also say the most unhinged shit like what did they want to know what a goomba tasted like

In short, Whoever thougt of adding these scrunglies needs a raise.
Fun fact, they had planned and recorded live commentary that would adapt to your gameplay but they scrapped it because they needed to release the game. So they used what they liked and kept them as talking flowers.

I felt the exact same. When I first saw them I was like "this is just a voice-over for the trailer, right? That's really annoying." But I ended up finding them very comical and entertaining
My brother showed me in the settings that if you go to make it where the flowers don't speak, it'll say, "Was it something I said?" 😂😂 Pure genius. I also love these little guys so much! They add a layer of fun to the game that just makes it even better! 🌟
In the same level where the flower asks, "What flavour are you," when you pass by another talking flower it says: "mmm, tasty!" I'm surprised you didn't include that one, it's one of my favourite flower moments.

There is a set of flowers that comment on you skipping a Wonder Flower. I don’t remember the exact level name, but it’s the level where when you get the Wonder Flower, the level tilts and the giant spike balls roll after you. If you use the Elephant power-up to turn around the small ball and break the wall open; you can run through that area without being chased, and the line of “you have to do things in a certain order” from one of the flowers is what makes me like this one so much.
I have to say, at first, I found these guys annoying, but I quickly warmed up to them completely. They say some genuinely funny stuff sometimes, and even when they don’t, their presence makes the levels feel a lot less lonely and add a TON of charm to the world. I’m really glad they were added, and I hope the next games introduce similar characters. Side note: you missed one of my personal favorites. In one of the challenges for the Dolphin Kick badge, a flower says, “Focus. Take a deep breath…wait, we’re underwater. Just focus”. That one got quite a chuckle out of me.
I love these guys so much. Genuinely my favorite part of the game. They’re just so supportive and they make me feel like I’m always doing something right :)
kinda some spoilers below my favorite talking flower is one that you get from a roulette block that is switching between a wonder flower and a talking flower. i screwed it up on my first attempt and got the talking flower, only for it to say “Ta-da! I’m the wonder flower!” i need them in every Mario game now.
I thought the addition of these flowers was very weird for a mainline Mario game but as I continued playing they became the best parts of each level for me 😆 the voice director and voice actor did a fantastic job
There’s a funny interaction in the 2nd world. When the one flower says “it’s safe here!” When outamyways are kicking ice blocks at you but is you stay there it says “that doesn’t mean you can hang”
Theres one flower on a wall by a wonder seed in a goo level, if you jump on them while goo'd: "*sssssllllurp*" Then if you somehow go back while normal: "thanks for the appetizer!
In the 2nd one, when the flower was getting trapped in snow, I tried to save him, but unfortunately couldn't, until i had an idea to let the snow pile on top of it, then use my elephant trunk to break the block consuming him, to which then since the snow doesn't follow gravity, the snow above him acted as a roof, protecting him from getting consumed. It was my proudest gaming moment.
I've 100%'d the game, and I loved these little guys every step of the way! They're so cute and funny! The fact that people mute them really confuses me.
Definitely enjoyed these fellows way more than I expected, even from a playtrugh only reading their lines, since i instantly turned the voicess off.(to hear the audio without interruptions and to match how the other voices were handled in the game[aka. just one-two words or a grunt while text gets displayed])
