I assume when they saw people making music in Mario Maker gave them the idea
I was already in love with the Rayman Legends music levels, I'm glad other 2d games are deciding to do those as well because they are always awesome.

I mean if the Ask the Developer interviews are to be believed, which I do, Koji Kondo was the one to come up with these levels and he seems to be pretty high up in the company.

A Bowser concert as a final world is something I never knew I needed until now.

It was that song that first convinced me NOT to buy the game, but the ending stage and Boo’s Opera that re-convinced me to buy this game
If piranha plant doesn't get cut in the next Smash game, they better have it sing in one of it's moves or taunts.

"Fluff-Fluff Peaks Special Climb to the beat" was the hardest level in the game for me; it's so easy to fall behind or mess up a wall jump.
Definitely not the hardest. The some of the other levels in the special world are way more difficult
It actually is the second hardest (final-final gauntlet is the hardest level in the game) and requires a badge that you get later to make it slightly easier.

No I mean for the jump jump jump climb level you need the badge that makes you run slightly faster.

I love how at the end of the break time stages, the positioning of the coins is accurate to the music notes playing! It's just a pretty neat detail

I’m in agreement. Piranha Plants on Parade sucks imo and so does the semifinal test, but this one, as well as every other music level in this game, lives rent-free in my head. Aside from Jump, Jump, Jump, that was pain

That would unironically be a dream come true
There's alreadyy Ninjis in Wonder so it's not farfetched
lmao this game was designed to basically be the opposite of Super Mario Maker. It's decidedly non-modular; every level has a story to it, and the mechanics of each level are unique. It'd be pretty hard to recreate that with just standard level elements, even in Night Mode.
The thing about mario maker is that it does not give you nearly the tools the dev team has to work with for these games
As someone who loves Mario games and rhythm based games the shock and pure joy on my face when playing the game and coming across these rhythm based and musical levels was incredible. The Bowsers Rage Stage was probably the most fun I've ever had on a Bowser level in all the Super Mario Bros games.

Interesting concept
It sounds like something both may attempt to do. Both like taking over the world/universe, both fail at it often, and both have had their minions stolen at least once (Bowser's in Mario+Luigi: rise of fawful, and DJ Octavio's in Splattoon 3) and both have a taste for music (bowser likes rock or metal music, and octavio likes Disco music)
It was really hard to beat Bowser in the Rage Stage level not because of difficulty but because I just wanted to vibe with him

I love these musical levels. Imagine if we ever have a Mario TV Series with musical numbers when all these creatures sing together. Hmm... dream.

The Break Time music levels had their songs ripped straight from the original games and I love it
In the Piranha level I wanted to go pacifist with the singing Piranhas.
If you actually killed the Piranha Plants in that level then you are more a monster than them.

I counted over the course of the game 1 Mario 64 musical reference, 2 confirmed and 1 possible Sunshine music references, and 0 Galaxy or Odyssey music references. As someone whose favorite game is Super Mario Sunshine, a game Nintendo on any other day would rather see forgotten, this is unprecedented. And yes bouncy tunes Delfino plaza did come out of left field and leave me in shambles when the coin jingle went
This game is literally about getting high. "Seeing pink elephants" has been used for centuries to describe states of delirium and altered consciousness. Wonder Seeds are the pineal gland - reality becomes more vivid and colorful when activated. Flower coins are straight up molly, even DMT is represented in the background fractals of the Bowser castle - Bowser straight up MERGES with an inanimate object. Mario becoming invisible is a metaphor of the feeling of becoming one with the universe and so on. This mushroom-drug allegory has been used since the original game, but here the developers embraced it full-on for the first time.

These remind me of a game called Harmoknight. All the levels were timed to music, and you'd hit enemies as you did, in rhythm. They even had bonus levels that were Pokémon songs, like a gym or champion battle, or the bicycle theme. Kinda makes me wish this whole game was rhythm-based.
The musical levels are by far my favorite levels.
