I just went through this same task without the benefit of this video. My old cables were so old and worn that I didn't even see the prongs you lifted. It would also help if I didn't leave my phone/tablets on the floor while charging, then stepping on them.
Your vid made me examine usb micro cords that had gotten torqued heavily (kicking the cord by accident and jerking out of phone) and i did discover when the outer shell was bent in a 'nose-down' position from horizontal, almost all had their lock-blades "submerged" - zero-tools fix for me was, to grip the plug and gently press downward at an angle against the table, bending the shell back straight enough to "re-expose" the lock-blades. You can also grind down the little pointy edges (that may have became not so pointy/rounded over the time) on those prongs with something like a nail filer.
This is one way of doing it. But the main issue often are not this little metal hooks bending in, most often the metal of the actual plug bending down, without the hooks bending with it. Use a small pincer or pliers (sorry I do not know the proper English word for it, so maybe it sounds funny for you) that fits between the hooks, so it won't bend the hooks, and gently bend it back in position. Works for me and is fast. Repair a good cable is worth doin it. Most don't know, but a bad quality cable could be the reason, why your phone is charging slowly or not charging at all, same for data transfer.

Thank you very much! I've been having trouble for weeks. My husband wanted me to get a new cell phone, he said it was the deal inside the cell phone itself. I have trouble buying a new cell phone every couple of years. I don't need a whole bunch of apps. :D
Thank you so much, I needed a charger asap. but with lock down & curfews, and all the local drugstores looted and closed, this technique saved the day!!! I used a safety pin as another person recommended below. one side was easier to do than the other and I thought I ruined the second side. but I your trick did it! Thank you
Hi whilst I agree your post is way to long for purpose, I actually have this problem and in doing what you have said did not work. However, in a very brilliant way I examined the port and I was totally amazed at the amount of fluff and dirt which is in it, so cleaned it all out, which was a task in itself and behold problem solved. If there is anyone wanting to start a business here's one for you, make a rubber pop in, so this does not happen, a very lucrative deal could be made here. My phone is only 2 years old and the port was so clogged I could not believe it. So I am going to try and clean the other ports as well as I have had a long standing issue with the headphones and it would not surprise me this is the issue too. So you have helped me for sure but someone could make loads of money out of this problem especially as you cannot take phones apart these days easily.
I'm glad you were able to get it worked out. Having dust in your charging port is definitely a problem and so many people don't even realize it until it's too late. It really makes me wonder how many good phones have been thrown away over the years because of a simple problem with a little dust.
@@TrentPierceProjects Yeah your dead right I am going to try and work out a trick using rubber to make some sort of cover inserts, I was so amazed at what was in there. I do not know if there is a micro vac on the market because that maybe worth investing in as well. thanks for your vid though it helped me work this out but as I say I would never have thought it would be dust debris.
Big thumbs up for you. I was amazed how much gunk came out of my Note 5 port. This worked better than bending the prongs, but the two combined have bought my phone back to near new state.
A tip for those who would want a handy tool for cleaning out the socket: Use a piece of the transparent plastic used in blister packs. It is very rigid and very thin, which are perfect for what we need. Trim the tip of your tool so it has a little hook at the end so it can easily scoop up the dust between the contacts and the plug's casing. Trim the other end of your tool to be pointy and straight, so you can get at the corners too.

Wireless charging is nice, but I feel like it isn't as fast as it needs to be. The main problem with wireless charging is that you can't use your phone while it charges
Absolutely agree with Tech Minded. Way to slow and cords are easier to stash. Be kind.
@@TrentPierceProjects there should be a wireless charging case
@@drakenff679 there is
@@bananafruit8004 I know but I should be in al phones
Thanks for explaining it.
I used a sharp utility knife with a new blade and it got right under the prong.
He'll yeah!!! You the man!!! I kept all my old ones and fix them all now I got over 20 of these things in handy now! Thank you!
How in the world did u do 20, i cant even do one 😟
@@carolewilliams3895 i used a needle, stuck it under the prong pushed up under it to grab it better with a needle nose pliers then pulled up a little bit and boom! Self done
Nice to know. I have a few old cables that are loose. Thanks for this tip.
It worked! No more kids swapping my cable or buying a cable every two months!
dwnsouthtx210 saved several cables in my house once I discovered this too
although you took a while to start the video, you just saved me from paying way to much on charger cables... Really thank you :) :)
thank you so much...this happened to my new cable..the cable wasnt even a week old
Same..
Thank you so much now I will never throw away my phone charging cable. YOU ARE A STAR!!!!!!!!!!
i'm Michael from Cape town, South Africa
WONDERFUL !
After so much twaddle from you tubers telling us we have to reinforce the cable, or shove bits of soft plastic into the port, to clean it.
So satisfying now, to discover someone who knows what he's talking about.
BIG TA !
A guy makes a "How to fix..." video and thoroughly explains everything and Some people that came here to learn from that same guy fills up the comments section complaining that he talks too much.
Honestly, Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
This is just straight up
*r/ChoosingBeggars* meterial.
ungrateful bastards..smh...
EDIT : it worked! My Charging port was lose and it wasn't charging and I this method works!
Thank you!
Thank you! I'm glad it worked for you as well. Thanks for the comment
@@TrentPierceProjects
Ofc,
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this !!! I don't need to buy charger again. Real life saver hehe
You're welcome
Good job, thanks. Good close shots. Add to your narrative what the enlargement ratio is on the photography. I tried those faults and decided to go around the phone's port itself.
Great and informative video. I repaired 2 cables in less than 5 minutes. Thanks so much.
Thanks! I just fixed 2 of my old charge cords. Can't thank you enough!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it helped
@@TrentPierceProjects forgot to mention, I used fingernail clippers to gently grab the prongs. It's was easier for me but you have to be really careful not to grab to tight or they will cut them right off! Thanks again!
It works!!! Used a cut off safety pin and needle nose pliers.. A regular needle was too thin. Amazing!!!! A hack that really works!!!
Thank you very much! I've been having trouble for weeks. My husband wanted me to get a new cell phone, he said it was the deal inside the cell phone itself. I have trouble buying a new cell phone every couple of years. I don't need a whole bunch of apps. :D
If u could also add displaying charging status before and after repairing cable.
I used a safety pin, and it actually worked. So thanks:)
Hey @Tech_Minded ! If I try this fix, the charging speed and data transmission through this cable get affected or not?
Glad I come across this. This as saved me buying a new cable. Keep up the cool idea's.
Thank you!! My logitech mic kept chipping out cause I dropped it 2 days ago. Best tutorial ever.
Thanks, fixed my connection in 10 min with your advice
Thank you so much, I needed a charger asap. but with lock down & curfews, and all the local drugstores looted and closed, this technique saved the day!!! I used a safety pin as another person recommended below. one side was easier to do than the other and I thought I ruined the second side. but I your trick did it! Thank you
Thank you for this!! Now I don't have to go out and keep buying new cables after a few months!
Great solution. Have to say mind, cant wait when all devices start using type C. This inbuilt design fault in micro USB is such a damn chore
Magnetic USB cable for the win
A tip for those who would want a handy tool for cleaning out the socket:
Use a piece of the transparent plastic used in blister packs. It is very rigid and very thin, which are perfect for what we need. Trim the tip of your tool so it has a little hook at the end so it can easily scoop up the dust between the contacts and the plug's casing. Trim the other end of your tool to be pointy and straight, so you can get at the corners too.
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this! 🌸
