@@bajjanitor so that's why the sweet baby games page was being praised instead of straight up telling us of how they're shoving agendas down our throats..
It's also why a lot of open source software sucks (with respect to UI/Usability). The people coding it might be good, but are often redditors with some serious mental problems (hence why they run an open source project instead of a project in the free market), like to act high and mighty and simply spend no effort trying to find someone who could make a good UI, because they basically run with a "git gud" mentally for using their shit software. A positive example, like Blender, has some actual industry backing to its Foundation and had market pressure to revamp their UI, which they did successfully. But not every project avoids the trap of the permanently online FOSS linux using fedora wearing mental asylum escapees.
Found his e-book "Waiting For Blue Robot" earlier today thanks to this. I thought the overreaction by the Community Manager was the worst thing I'll read about this week, but the behind-the-scenes with the Godot Leadership is probably even worse. There's so many systemic issues with the leadership, with the Godot community and Godot Engine itself that it's a thesis on how not to be a cult. That absolutely needs to be covered by someone. It's way more important than this dumb triggered nonsense.

Similar thing happened with Warframe (game) moderators. Some nasty people infiltrated space - first they buttlicked devs to extreme and when devs started calling them friends they suddenly started pushing agenda... This is how these snakes operate. Devs tried to find excuses for these people but it escalated and at the end they apologized and burned everything to the ground (they fired everyone). Now they are using external company for this to avoid any personal connection and just be able to easily swap people who are making problems...
It's not being held hostage by the CM @Asmongold TV, it's worse than that. You have a technical founder, Juan that is basically the guy that made the engine, and don't care too much about politics, and you have a business "CEO", Remi, that is a leftist and he is the one doubling down on this. He was the one banned devs from their github. And they are deeply entrenched in this, they are partners in both the Godot Foundation and the W4Games, their port company. 💀💀💀

@@jigsaw93-b2s Always check for yourself. What's toxic and what isn't depends entirely on the person making the call. Some of the people that got banned in this mess got banned for simply asking that the commercial company they financially support please focus on the product issues that are causing them trouble instead of activism. For most reasonably intelligent people that do business more than once every few years, that's entirely reasonable. If you pay for products and services and those products and services cause issues, you'd like to see the provider of same work on those issues instead of kicking loose social media poop storms about unrelated social issues. I'd be more inclined to believe that the people that got banned on github actually behaved in a way that's unacceptable for collaboration if we didn't have two very visible examples of moderators running their community like a cult and not only getting away with it but getting actively supported. With that example to go by, I'd be hesitant to believe that all the people getting banned on github were banned for being genuinely impossible to work with. Stuff like that tends to spread in companies as people that just want to do a good job get fed up with the political and social BS interfering with their profession and move on, getting replaced by people that embrace the agenda.
Well protecting the community actually equates to just protecting their own egos. Alot of them could care less about the nonsense they spout. It's just an act for some sort of clout.
I am unfamiliar with the process, but the folks that were banned from the github... would that hamper their ability to develop the engine in their own fork, or can they just take what they have and create a new github to work on it with their own group?

As someone who has worked over a decade in customer-facing marketing, this is has been some of the most amateur-hour PR ever. The problem is that companies view social media marketing positions as the lowest-rung position in marketing and it leads to a lot of these Twitter warriors being in a position to be the "voice" of their brand due to low pay forcing out better quality employees. Your Brand's "Voice" is supposed to be about the values of your company and how it connects to your customers. Isolating potential customers by chiming into an issue that is political when it has no actual connection to your brand identity is outrageously unintelligent. Fire the clown that made the tweet. Your goals should be the financial well-being of your entire staff and the moron that has been running your social media clearly doesn't know basic marketing or is valuing their politics over your brand's well-being.

This is EXACTLY the problem. And the reason is, for a very long time in the past, California was the leader of western culture. Everyone wanted to go to California. California was where everything was happening, and so if Hollywood/Games tailored their appeal to California, it would also appeal to most of the entire West. But lately, because of this extremism, California has become detached from the rest of western culture. But these companies, corporations, and activists still have not figured this out. They think that because DEI is super popular in California, then it must be super popular everywhere else, too. But this is just not the case. And that is why they assume that the people who disagree must be the minority, when in fact, the opposite is true. It's not that the rest of the west is bigoted, we simply do not want to force DEI into art at the expense of the integrity of said art. Most of us have no problem with LGBT, or any races being displayed in media. The issue is that the DEI message is the focus, not the art, and the art suffers for it. And THAT is why people are mad. Baldur's Gate 3 is the perfect example of how you can put all sorts of progressivism into your game and it can still be successful, and that is because they did not do so at the expense of the integrity or authenticity of the game. And that's all we want. We want the art to come first, and everything else is second. DEI just reeks of forced abnormal diversity, not true diversity. Its tokenism and it makes all of the art feel unauthentic. Write a black character when a black character feels right. Write a gay character when a gay character feels right. Write a female character or male character based on what FEELS RIGHT. Not forced into the game regardless just to complete a checklist of unauthentic diversity.

Steam's also doing some things that, for me, point to them going downhill. Two examples that I can think of right now: Racially motivated promotion events (very recent and via 3rd parties, but still on the front page). Entirely disabling community interaction based off of marking reviews useful in the store (not recent, but proven that they'll do it). I just plan to enjoy Steam until it catches fire too.

Those people calling Godot a cult for the last few years are starting to make way more sense. There's no reason to use this engine for anything. Cause if they see the disagreements as harassment, they're all just like that community manager. These are the kind of ideologues who would hide backdoor access in the engine for the foundation to make sure they have control of the games that are made with it. this whole thing has been weird because I just like working in Godot. If there's a fork made of it I'll consider switching, but some weirdo on the internet isn't going to make me learn a new engine.
Actually there is a lot of reason to use this engine for everything, that's what truly makes this situation sad. Unlike competition Godot is a free open-source engine. Why does that matter? Let's say you are a dev and decide to use Unreal. Unreal then becomes the go - to engine, which almost all the market is using. Now they have a monopoly and can pretty much dictate the prices of the engine. As a dev, let's say you want to do a sequel to your game which you developed on Unreal. You now either can succumb to their insane prices or change the engine, which is not an easy task. On the other hand, if this happens when you're using open-source engine, anyone can just make a fork of it with more reasonable prices.
And it is literally. The actual DEVS are trying to fix problems for months, but the people who control the main branch don't let them, because they want their handpicked friends to work on the engine.
"they got overwhelmed and started banning people bye mistake" = translation = They are terrible community managers and mods and should be fired because they dont do the specific thing they need to do.

It's dumb for a game engine to engage in any sort of politics. The people who use the engine don't want people to boycott their games because of a stance that a game engine employee took on something. Just keep your personal politics out of your work.
You don't get it. These people wouldn't have their jobs if they weren't playing the game of politics and social climbing. They got there because of their politics, why on earth would they stop trying to use their politics and social position to keep climbing? Why is nobody on either side able to think about what the other wants and figure out why they are doing what they are doing?
It was not politics if we are honest, but it was a shitty way to phrase a tweet asking for LGBTQ+ Devs to show their games. Steam has some events like that and handles them quite nicely. The problem was that the community manager took upon herself to be a white knight for the "cause" when none was needed.
So that's two free game engines that have been run into the ground by their CEO's terrible decisions, then. it absolutely does matter that the engine has a solid foundation and community, open source software dies all the time because it's not popular enough and no one contributes. Godot is dead af now, especially because unity seems to be making all the right decisions in response to the community outrage unlike godot, and honestly even with the previous unity f up, almost nobody actually made the switch.
@@terminsane I mean sure but let’s be real, plenty of people are happy to clown on them online but not a lot of folks gonna step up to become brand new devs for the project just because their community manager went woke-ular

Also something about the moderator, that person WAS a moderator for Godot until a year ago when it got bought or something. So that person was representing godot during that time. Not only that when you click for official discord on godots page you're supposedly taken to the Cafe discord. They're just throwing this person under the bus to distract from the actual issues they are now facing with the victim blaming non-apology they put out.
they will never agree to these points. for them people not wanting to talk about social issues is already toxic you must talk about social issue (with their lens) or else you might be a bigot
So they admit that they "mistakenly" banned some people. Then just unban them?? Why force them through this humiliating process of filling the form and force them to give you their personal email?
I used this engine to make non-commercial games. I left the related discords within the last year for the usual reasons. Certain vaguely political offhand remarks were punished while others went by unnoticed by moderators. It is disappointing, but the good thing is its free software you can use without an account or giving them any credit at all.
Yeah, you can use Godot without giving them any credit, but if you release a game made with Godot, you have to give credit. As stated in the license: _"Note however that the Godot Engine binary that you would distribute with your game is a copy of the "Software" as defined in the license, and you are therefore required to include the copyright notice and license statement somewhere in your documentation."_
@@xenn4985yup thats the gaslighting ive spotted as well. Their politics are permitted, and anyone who slightly disagrees gets put on blast for being political.
I know everyone is hating on godot, but this might be an interesting case in looking at how the ideology infected godot. Like, prior to this godot was generally supported, probably flourishing with the unity controversy, and all it took was one community manager to wreck it. The ceo and company could have done something about this but they have decided to back the community manager either because they do support them, or because they are simply neglectful of their business and just allow the infection to run rampant.
Things similar to this have happened in the past. For example, a third-party launcher for minecraft, PolyMC, came into a lot of internal division due to a lot of the dev team disagreeing with the creator's political views. Some of the team then split off to make Prismlauncher, which I personally use (not for political reasons, it's just good software imo). I imagine something like that may happen again, although for a codebase as large as Godot's, you would need a large team to meaningfully maintain a fork.
God of war is such a good game. Same with Red Dead. And cyberpunk. And Witcher....games in a different reality that don't include real life and throw it in your face. Godot, Bethesda & Sony be learning lessons.
Its likely the community manager may have passwords to very vital stuff and there wasnt a proper separation of duties or rights. Meaning if they changed the passwords and access info they CANT be fired, otherwise people who need something cannot access it. Essentially you cant fire the worker who holds the keys to the vault and refuses to give them up.
that's why it's important to document this stuff, you never know when you'll need it especially if you disagree with someone and they grab pictures of your dead mother to make fun of you. trolls are easy to deal with, but these folks are a different breed they're hurting inside badly
What's even more sad is xananax (Jad Sarout) now hiding behind the name Jad (Teacher at GDQuest) is a teacher for GDquest one of the if not the best godot resources. Gdquest even worte some of the online documentation for Godot and now sell their courses to Schools around the world. Jad is still active in the GDquest discord as well as still working for GDquest. I the current situation I would assume the owner Nathan is more than happy for his business to be associated with a racist.
If the devs behind Godot is not as onboard with the insanity as their community-managers their best course of action now would probably be to fork the code and scrub the politics. Then the rainbow warriors can dance on the empty chrysalis of Godot while the project is carried on under another name.

It seems to me that people like this think the entire world is California.
Or Portland, Oregon.
That's the world they want to force. Including rampant crime and forever wars.
Not even the whole state, just the fart bubbles of Los Angeles and San Francisco. You don't see these people living in small California towns because they wouldn't survive there.

I don't know all the details, but people've been hinting for us to do a search for "unreal engine inclusive" with code and documentation as the focus.

If they're willing to side with the genius who banned a diamond tier donor just because they disagreed with them, they're willing to sabotage your game just because one of their cult members claims you're a bigot and makes up something about your game being offensive. Never use Godot.
this whole thing has been weird because I just like working in Godot. If there's a fork made of it I'll consider switching, but some weirdo on the internet isn't going to make me learn a new engine.
Probably should check out waiting for blue robot as well.
It's like the Warhammer 40K Dark God corruption. You have to purge it.
