      @stephenhendricks103 5 років тому +1

      I've always admired the CC but it had a very difficult time escaping the shadow of the Passat. It began with its name, the Passat CC, and even after the Passat moniker was dropped it retained a reputation of being nothing more than a upper trim Passat. Not fair perhaps but that was the perception in the marketplace. VW needed a somewhat more premium sedan that was clearly distinguishable in name and looks from the Passat.

    I bought my Arteon R Line in November last year here in Australia, 4 Motion, 2.0turbo. I’ve since added RaceChip (a great product I’ve had on my old BMW 4 series). The car now has 335HP and huge torque, 0-60 sub 5 seconds. I love the interior space and massive boot, not to mention all of the gadgets and the looks. This car gets HUGE looks, I’ve come out to a car park at a hotel we were staying at and found about 12 people staring at it, ended up opening it up and letting everyone have a proper look. Make no mistake, it’s a fantastic car, drives well and has something for everyone. My previous vehicles were Audi, BMW and this car does it better.

    The Stinger is still the better buy. This car at that price stacks up to a GT1 Stinger AWD w/Remote Start comes in at $49k. That's a way more powerful motor and superior warranty. If you don't go AWD the Stinger is the same price and keeps its power advantage + warranty. The 4cyl models just out class it in fuel economy + warranty for less money (even when you go down to cheaper versions).
    Even if you're looking for a luxury FWD car the Lexus ES 350 (or Toyota Avalon) exists or heck the Kia Cadenza is a solid pick. I like how the VW looks, I like that digital dash but those two things aren't game changers. This car is just for someone who just really likes VW. I just don't see it as a compelling offer. Especially in its FWD form.

    • @ronnymb67
      @ronnymb67 5 років тому +3

      I'm with you there. Is a good looking car but I would still take the Stinger. And before you VW fanboys get your panties all in a twist, I was one of you. Among the ones I had there was a Passat W8 for fucksake! 🤣 but in my defense, at least it was one of the 432 6-speed manuals ever imported. As far as comparing a loaded Stinger GT2 all wheel drive at $52,000 to this at $47,000, nobody is paying sticker price for the Stinger and I doubt VW dealers will be discounting this any if at all. For the minuscule price difference it would ultimately be, I would get an all-wheel-drive Stinger GT2. Plus the Stinger is rear-wheel-drive so I have my choice of rear-wheel drive or a rear biased all-wheel drive. if I had a family that made rear seat room paramount, then yeah maybe for the extra couple of inches of rear seat legroom. So the small trade-offs in room and ultimately price, I'll take the bigger difference in performance with the Stinger. Not to mention Lap3 has been running their tune in a Stinger for over a year now with no issues. Merely with the tune and bolt ons, still with stock turbos and internals, they have boosted it from 365 horsepower at the crank, to over 500 at the wheels.

    Sofyan you stated that its the best looking sedan in *BOTH* VWs and Audis line-up.
    Sadly I think youre right, I used to love Audis design language from the mid-00s (Audi i-Robot car) until the early 2010's (1st generation Audi A7).
    Their designs were elegant, understated and yet highly luxurious and futuristic.
    The original Audi Q7 for example defined what a luxury crossover was and the entire market followed.
    Now their designs are trying too hard with giant pointy hexagon grilles and squinty headlights with fussy LED designs.

    Gorgeous vehicle, inside and out. I'm struck by the fact that the Arteon looks much sleeker in this review than in earlier videos and photos of the car. Of course there will be the usual complaints from internet fanboys who think every vehicle should have a five liter V8 under the hood but that ignores both what the Arteon is about and the fact that it's designed to conform to recent (much stricter) changes in EU emission requirements and the much more expensive fuel outside the US. Those who aren't familiar with the 2.0L turbo found in various forms in the GTI and the Golf R (and in even more variants in European VW's) would be surprised at its performance potential. Furthermore, VW is very protective of the engine choices and configurations of its Audi brand (much as Toyota is with Lexus vehicles) and they're unlikely to offer versions of the Arteon that threaten to cannibalize sales of Audi models. So a 3.0L turbo V6 isn't a likely option.
    VW has a very spotty record in terms of sales of its European spec vehicles. Americans in general are unwilling to pay the price Europeans routinely pay for VW products and it will be interesting to see how the Arteon fares. Sofyan is correct, I think, in categorizing the Arteon as a Grand Touring vehicle, a bit further along that dimension than the Stinger but with a similar mission. KIA, of course, offers the twin turbo V6 in the Stinger but the American market is far more important to KIA than it is to VW and KIA doesn't have to worry nearly as much about cannibalizing sales of a luxury brand closely associated with KIA. (The Genesis G70 is really quite different in terms of its appeal though it shares the Stinger's design and engineering under the sheet metal.)

I'd say you missed the LEXUS, but of course they aren't hatchbacks. The CC (in particular, the VR6 4-Motion) was phased out years ago because it was eating into Audi's sales. I wonder what this will do? I think it would CHOMP on Audi's sales, that's what. This looks BETTER than the A5 and A7 hatchback, and at half the cost of an A7? It's a no brainer. Give it an AEM air filter, 3" turbo inlet, and a chip tune, and it'll easily be up over 300+HP.

    The only things I'd change to make this a perfect car, is to improve the handling... Make it slightly more fun.. Then have the beautiful console angle and almost envelope the driver onto a cockpit style.. That would look incredible and futuristic. Either way, I'd get this beautiful car in the future.

    My friends grandparents still drive a 1991 Camry, and a 1991 Civic. Both those cars would probably still be on the road when almost all of these would be in the junk yard. Heck they may be still working just fine when most people have already moved onto flying cars.

      And I'm sure both of those cars are fun to drive and are nice and stable at highway speeds -__-
      Let's not even talk about the looks and materials used.

      At least a Toyota or Honda is less likely to visit a mechanic shop other than regular maintence. I see far more older Toyota and hondas than vws. The only vehicles I see more from the 80s and 90s other than Hondas and Toyotas are Chevy and GMC trucks.

      The history of German vs Japanese cars say you're right. My thing is that Japanese cars don't drive and look as good as the Germans.
      I've had my share of Japanese cars and I don't keep them longer than 6 years, so why not drive something that puts a smile on your face?

      As a VW Touareg and CC owner, I can tell you that both have been very reliable. Before we bought the touareg we had a 4 runner that went through brakes and tires like crazy. That was the main reason we got rid of it! Yes it was reliable, but no matter what we could barely get 20,000 miles out of a good set of tires!
      And I have a buddy who's tundra spent a lot more time in the shop than you'd guess a Toyota would. And once it turned 10 years old it would no longer pass inspection due to the frame rot!
      People can say all they want, but all car manufacturers have their issue's, look at the latest Honda crv turbo issues.

      I woukd rather have a reliable Japanese car that would end up having very little issues and less stress than a German car that would most likely end up being an unreliable rubbish piece of junk and headaches after five years. There is a reason many people lease German vehicles. If you plan on getting a German car it is best to get one new and only have it for up to five years, because older than that and they are nothing but headaches. A Japanese car is a better experience if you are planning to get a used car older than five years old.

    I love the praise you give the interior. Over here in the UK, the motoring press were very unimpressed because it looks exactly the same as the (Admittedly far nicer than the US) version of the Passat we get over here.

    This car is based from the European Version Passat, around the time MQB first came out from 2014. So its is about 5 years old. We always get everything late.
