Don you could do a whole show on travel law. Most of the country's outside the US have very different laws and legal procedures. The worst thing to say to law enforcement outside the US is "I know my rights. My lawyer will get this taken care of."
Even outside the US you have basic rights under the foreign country’s constitution & saying that to a cop would be a true statement. Of course your primary right is to be silent (don’t incriminate yourself by saying the wrong thing) .
Here on the Long Island Sound...coast of Ct....a wedding venue transports and plants palm trees from Florida every year. They have a beach venue and it makes it extra special
Hi Don.....I was Sitting in a Chair on the Pool Deck 1.5 Years Ago , On The Sky Princess. You walked down the Stairs and Walked Right By Me.....I Recognised you.....We Spoke for a Several Minutes....It Was good to meet you..... I Am A Cruiser And Enjoy Your Channel !
Don, you are sooooooo right. Our DoDo 🦤 citizens are so self centered that they treat other countries as if their laws don’t apply to viditors. Worse, is their absolute disregard for local dress codes and customs. Recently while in Turkey, and on a tour to the Blue Mosque, the cruise line repeated said No Shorts on this tour. Yep, a Daisy Duke shorts American created a scene and did not take the rebuke and being barred kindly. Wow. SMH
Yep, the stereotypical "dumb and arrogant" American tourist is still alive and well in 2024! You only need to leave American soil to quickly find out the rest of the world doesn't care about your "American rights"
The cruise line and local authorities need to address this flash mob nonsense quickly. All they did was show terrorist how vulnerable taking over a ship full of passengers could be. Wishing you well Don. My wife is still undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. Sh is doing well with the treatments, but I sympathize with your journey. Praying for your complete recover and remission.
I agree. While people were talking about still going to Labadee after all the problems going on I said a ship could not leave quickly & they have no way to protect people & others look at vacationers as having money & easy targets, which they are. I could see a group with weapons boarding & taking over the ship. Thank goodness they made the right choice to just not go there until things change.
He's not facing "up to" 12 years in prison. 12 years is the mandatory minimum. The court can reduce that if it finds "extraordinary circumstances", but a carceral sentence must be imposed even then.
First, the ammo should have been left at home. This is (first and foremost) the responsibility of the person who had the ammo. Don’t put this on the TSA.
@@doughooks7411 yes he should have left the bullets at home. The point is does TSA do a good job if things like this are missed. What else went through undetected
@@aliasmarg8ta127 TSA may have missed it, but we will never know. He may have obtained the ammo from the Turks and Caicos. Right? Where is the proof (other than his story) that he took it with him from home thru TSA? He was with friends there, and it could have come from one of them. Right? Part of the problem these days is the lack of personal responsibility. The ammo was found in his possession and pointing the finger elsewhere is…well, pointless at this point. Right?
@doughooks7411 IF TSA has security loopholes that allow passengers to sneak-through bullets or knives, then we citizens need to know. It indicates flying may not be secure after all Z.
@@electrictroy2010 There are no guarantees in life. As long as there are humans, there will be human errors. It also happens in the cockpits. At the end of the day, we are all responsible for ourselves and our actions. Lack of personal responsibility was the first in the chain of several errors with this scenario.
On a cruise a few years ago a lady that joined us at dinner told us she had never cruised before and her friend won a cruise for 2 and invited her along.so she borrowed a bag from her friends husband and while it went through security it was noted that 1 bullet was in it .she had alot of explaining to do .there was no weapon involved and we were still in port of orleans
It was 2 bullets that was loose in his backpack, probably just fell out last time he went to the range. I guess he should have double-checked but 2 loose rounds would be very easy to miss if they just rolled around and tucked under a flap or something.
Not sure how the American Jazz handles security in the US, but I was amazed a few months ago while watching one of Emma's videos on river cruising in Europe. She mentioned that the ships did not require any ID (cruise card or the like) for people to board the ship. Not even sure if they stationed crew members at the bottom of the gangway. Seemed like anyone could just get on board and wander around the ship if they wanted to.
Hi Don! Just curious; Do people try to “stow away” on cruise ships, or is it impossible to even board a ship without a ticket? Wish you well, and sending prayers your way.
I wonder how this man got through security before he got to Turks and Caicos. Also he's facing a minimum of 12 years of jail according to other sources.
"Ammo Guy" may not be as unaware as some posters appear to believe. There was no indication in the story of how many bullets he was bringing into Turks and Caicos (a British overseas territory). Was it just 4 or 5 cartridges at the bottom of the bag, or a few boxes of ammo? In many countries, ammunition is a big choke-point in gun usage; ammo can be quite expensive and often difficult, if not impossible, to legally obtain. In Turks and Caicos, illegal possession of guns and/or ammunition carries a maximum sentence of up to 12 years. Unless "Ammo Guy" was actually trafficking in arms, past incidents indicates that "Ammo Guy" might spend a month or two in jail awaiting sentencing, and then deported. On thing for certain: all of this is going to cost "Ammo Guy" a ton of money.
Hey Don, Hope your are having a Vantastic vacation. Prayers for your upcoming test that they go well. I feel sorry for this Gentleman that had a couple of bullets in his bag got to think it was a accident. For the 12 people trying to board the river boat sound like one of those flash mobs groups probably up to no good. Thank you for the information and news.
Well, it so happens that the palm trees aren't native of the Caribbean they were introduced by the spaniards during colonization hahaha. That's why there's not many in some islands
I wonder if the gentleman accidentally left the ammo in his bag from a hunting trip and just forgot about them? Also, how did he get on the plane and cruise ship without TSA finding them first? smh 5000 palm trees? I understand some palm trees, but 5000? Wow
After my dad died in 2019, I spent at least 6 months cleaning out his clothes, office, etc., and kept finding ammo everywhere. In the pockets of his clothes, on his desk, in his truck.... He had ammo in pill vials, along with coins. He was a hunter. I even found shotgun shells dating from the 1960s or so. Some of them I was scared to touch. So yeah, please keep your guns and ammo in a safe place.
Took you a minute to find them and remove them? People get arrested all the time at the Canadian border with marijuana. It's legal in NY and Quebec but a high felony at the border station. Just a dumb law but you need to comply or you go to prison. Vacuum your car and your suitcase out before travel.
If you are referring to the 12 youths, it was a small river ship similar to a European river ship that typically carries less than 200 people and has little to no security. The other incidents regarding the bullets found, one was a cruise passenger who had 2 loose bullets in his backpack and the other flew in and had a similar number of bullets. They are 2 separate incidents regarding bullets found and have no known connection to each other, and both are facing a minimum of 12 years in prison if found guilty.
Wishing you well done. That is such a sad story about the man that didn't know he had 2 stray bullets in his bag. I get that Grand Turke has there own laws but the punishment seems way to harsh for the crime. I'm praying they give him lenience. He had a wife and an 18 month old son. By the time he did mandatory 12 years his son would be a teenager when he were to get out of prison. Just sad.😢
Notes to Self: don't board a ship for which I am not a registered guest and remove all bullets from my pockets and bags when cruising.
And don't bring your portable washing machine 😅.
And don't bring your Iron! 😅
Now I've got to watch that portable washing machine video to see this !😂

You must scan your key card both when getting on and off Viking River cruises.
Good reason to stay away from them!

Where WAS security to BOARD the ship?????
Security costs money and cuts into the bottom line
