Queen Mary was an amazing woman. What a disappointment her first born son must have been. Her second born and her grand daughter Elizabeth must have been her pride and joy.
My mother's godmother was in Queen Mary's household and she told us the Queen was much loved and respected by everyone. She was a model of service and duty to country and I believe Queen Elizabeth learned much from her grandmother. As a child, my own godmother took me to Windsor Castle to see the carpet the Queen had embroidered. I still have the souvenir book of this. It inspired me to take up needlework and with every tapestry I work, I remember the Queen.
Queen Mary was the bomb. Such an intelligence and lover of art, music, and literature. Wow, and what a tiny waste. And her taste in jewelry was unprecedented. Actually, if you look at pictures of Elizabeth Queen Mother from the 1940s, you can see that both Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, Princess Margaret take after their mother but definitely received some facial refinement coming down from Mary of Teck. Then look at Anne, Princess Royal and she's a doppelganger for her aunt Princess Margaret.
Thank you for an interesting and informative video. I liked your narrative, and the images were beautiful, particularly the photograph of Mary and George's wedding party.
Actually he was unstable before the Duchess of Teck died. When Princess Mary was still a child he was kept in Germany under medical treatment for several months. In the 1880s his relatives described him as having 'softening of the brain.' Certainly after his wife's death he was kept under strict supervision.
The Duke of Windsor holy moly looked SO much like her. And it’s so interesting that since her mother 3:55 was ‘FAT’ Mary, she actually found real love? They were amazed! People fall in love! Apparently, she was fun, personable. Then, just as now, it’s not all about looks! To be clear, *Fat* Mary is who I’m talking about
Queen Mary of Teck was related to Queen Victoria, she just wasn't a descendant. Queen Mary of Teck's mother, Mary Adelaide was a first cousin to Victoria. Victoria's father was the 4th son, while Mary Adelaide's was the 7th son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. So Queen Mary of Teck was a Second cousin to her husband, King George V.
Rest in eternal peace Queen Mary, you added a substantial amount of jewels to the royal treasury, the Cullinan diamonds and the many diamond tiaras and brooches bracelets and stomacher brooches necklaces rings and earrings, she really collected quite a lot!❤

She also trained HMQEII in the art of the walkabout, love of art and the importance of supporting charities. Mary helped save the monarchy when Edward VIII abdicated. I saw a beautiful video of Queen Mary in a gorgeous light colored gown sparkling with rhinestones or diamonds, sitting in a grassy outside area laughing and blowing bubbles with a young Queen Elizabeth II and her sister Margaret. They were all laughing and playing, and Queen Mary was obviously much loved and a very fun "grandma" to the young girls.
Apparently Mary said according to her grandmother The Duchess of Cambridhe "They Thought The Duke of Teck would be a suitable match for "Fat Mary" He loved her passionately, not caring about her size and Queen Mary's grandmother said "It was a suitable match and after a quick ccourtshipthey married. Queen Mary has been described as a kleptomaniac because silly stories have become true by constant repetition. In fact there are absolutely no proven instances of that behaviour. There are, however, frequent stories of her insisting that accounts were paid promptly and encouraging others to do the same. She never refused gifts. There is a story of her visiting the antique shop Partridge, with her lady in waiting, Lady Constance Milne Gaskell. Lady Constance recognised an embroidered bed cover that had been sold from her own home. Partridge offered it as a gift, which she declined. Queen Mary said to her, 'Constance, never refuse a firm offer. I never do. '
Interesting that in pics as a young woman she was not as lovely as in her later years, when she was quite exquisitely elegant. It may happen frequently for men, but very rarely for a woman. She must have come into her own as a quiet force of nature. I believe her family set precedent for a Happy Marriage, which is often lacking among Royal unions.
I read that as preparations were being made for the coronation of QEII that Mary left instructions that the coronation should go on as planned if she died before it. I think it was around two months.
Pope-Hennesy's book on Queen Mary is very good but the recent book on King George V adds to our understanding of this remarkable woman. She would have made a tremendous monarch but did well as a consort.
