Excellent video! Finally someone able to explain that none of these third party cables are compatible- not even the guys at the Apple Store are aware of this! Thank you… 👏🏻
I bought Airpods Max for flying only to realize that they don't include a freaking headphone 3.5 mm cable to use on the plane. No one stocks the special Apple headphone cable so now I can't listen to movies on the plane unless I bring my old pair. I tried an aftermarket firewire to headphone. No dice. Tried the Apple lightning to headphone adapter. No dice. Seems every single aftermarket option is a purely one way data direction cable vs the Apple version being a two-way or reverse direction. For a $500 headphone, it's pretty cheap to not include a cable to use on flights. That's a huge reason why I go these in the first place (ANC). Def left a bad taste in my mouth. I like these headphones, but I preferred the more complete accessory inclusion of the B&O offerings. Contemplating just going back to B&O.
Ive been trying for a week to get my airpods max to work wired on my pc for gaming (too much lag wirelessly) and I went through all these steps before finding your video. I thought I was going crazy but im glad to know i wasnt the only one. I tried the apple cable and it had an outrageous amount of background noise. Thanks for the detailed video. It was incredibly helpful for finally putting these headphones to rest for gaming.
Thank you. Yesterday, I tried original Apple adapter and it didn't work, either. I was going to buy a Ugreen cable. Then I saw your video. Thank you. :)
so annoying that none work.. I bought the ugreen only to realize that they dont work which is unfortunate since they look way better than apple's option
Thanks for the video. I also bought expensive AirpodsMax + expensive Belkin cable for Plane and and doesn't work. Luckily I still have my Sennheiser Momentum that works perfectly with a 3.5mm Audio cable.🙄
Same story here. Classic Apple. Not thinking about the basics. ANC, planes, travel, 3.5mm headphone cable? C'mon Apple. I bet 90% of people who buy these intend to use them for travel as well.
Other cables don't work because Apple amazingly crammed a bidirectional ADC (analogue-to-digital converter) inside their 3.5mm to lightening cable. It is important to know what is required of the cable and why others don't work. The Max's require a cable with an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Also it must convert the analog signal to AAC for the AirPods. Cables that come with the iPhone (or 3rd party) are just the opposite and have a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). Much has been said about the $35 price tag, but it makes more sense when you consider that this cable has an ADC crammed inside it. Am I thrilled about not having another option, not at all, BUT understanding why, I get it. I wish Belkin would make something coiled with a threaded 1/4" adapter
Wish I could’ve found this video sooner before wasting money buying a “cheaper cable,”. So now we are confirmed that only the $35 one from Apple will work? What’s the main reason behind it? Thanks
yep, as far as I know no other cable works ... i guess apple wants you to only buy from them or the "certification" for other 3rd party brands is too expensive for a rather small marked
sorry for the late reply ... no i did not keep them ... made a video about it ;) i got Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X instead ... not wireless but way better sound and cheaper as well
Brauche deine hilfe
Thanks. You saved me a bit of cash there, sir. I will also save the crazy money for the Apple cable and buy a pair of Audio-Technica or Sennheiser for not much more
Hi, weißt du zufällig ob es einen passenden Adapter für das Audiokabel von Apple gibt damit das Kabel länger ist? Das Apple Kabel ist leider für mich zu kurz
I’m going through this right now, just purchased Max’s. Purchased 4-5 cables on Amazon and can’t find a cable that works, called Apple they sent me a link to the Belkin Lightning to 3.5. Waiting for they to arrive.
Sorry that is wrong your can use that port for audio as well even though only with one cable made by Apple … you need that if you want to use them for task like audio oder video editing since Bluetooth has noticeable delay 😅
I hate how Apple charges more than 3 times the price of a regular 3.5 adapter. The bidirectional audio cable SHOULD have been included with the AirPod Max at $550. Totally inexcusable to not include it. This is proof Apple is greedy as hell and doesn't care about their customers.
The lighting to 3.5mm adapter works, its just you have to connect it to an iphone, ipad or any source using a lightning port that can play high fidelity music then use an aux cord instead of connecting the adapter to the headphones, as you did.

Thanks for the video. It save me and many other ton of times. Appreciate it.

@@MichaelSchmidt_UrbnPxl so seems that the Apple brand is the only one with built in DAC and is bi-directional; thanks again!
Thanks for the video. I also bought one and doesn't work.
If h have a iPad or a apple that takes a usbc. /. Get a lightning to usb c. That works only on iPad or iPad mini / give it a try. It works
Thanks buddy, saved me a lot fo headache
Hi i ve the same problem , any update? Did you keep it ?
sorry for the late reply ... no i did not keep them ... made a video about it ;) i got Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X instead ... not wireless but way better sound and cheaper as well
at wired time Bluetooth on / off
does *airpods max* microphone works??
please reply...
I don't have them anymore ... using AT M50xBT and Beyerdynamic 900 Pro X
Thank you for the video!

Ja leider nur das Orginal Apple Kabel funktioniert
In the end, did you ever find out if the original super expensive apple cable work?
I sold them long ago ... they just did not sound any good to my ears / for my taste ... too expensive
Thanks. You saved me a bit of cash there, sir. I will also save the crazy money for the Apple cable and buy a pair of Audio-Technica or Sennheiser for not much more

Jeglicher 3.5mm/3.5mm-Verlaengerungskabel muesste schon passen oder?
you forgot another possibility lightning to lightning cable so as not to have the loss of quality induced by the analog digital conversion
I bought the UGreen trying to save a few £’s and wish I knew. So they need returning. Apple being Apple.
Thank you
I used original apple 3.5mm cable and still didn’t work

do they work?
@@TarickWalcott They don’t you need the Apple ones for $39 because it has a DAC (Digital to Audio Convertor).
@@churchillcoins8519 Apple knows how to squeeze its customers' balls. I love Apple, but you have to be careful with them.
Audio cables do not work; it’s only a charging port not an audio port.
JURGEN KLOPP! IS that you???
..."this doesn't work"...
yep ... sadly so ... only the 40 bucks Apple does work
I love this video.
thanks
lol it’s Bluetooth. That port on the AirPod max is just for charging there’s no audio.
Sorry that is wrong your can use that port for audio as well even though only with one cable made by Apple … you need that if you want to use them for task like audio oder video editing since Bluetooth has noticeable delay 😅
@@MichaelSchmidt_UrbnPxl nope the port is only a charging port, it wasn’t built with audio signal routing in it.

official apple airpods max cable looks so cheap, it wont hold for long...
