- This barely noticeable zipper is super easy to install and works on pillows and cushions with or without trim. It's a great method to use with brush fringe, but works just as well with twist cord, tassel fringe, welt, or on plain knife edge pillows. Perfect for beginners!
Materials used are from Cowtan & Tout
Fabric: Colefax and Fowler Ariadne color Aqua
Trim: Manuel Canolvas Visconti color Prairie
Very well explained and all the details there, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I am going to make garden reclining chair cushion covers and will use this lapped zipper method for them.
Best easiest to follow video ever!!
Love, love, love ❤❤❤
Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I've enjoyed all your videos.
This is awesome. Been struggling with fringe and cording… zipper was always a mess.. thank you
😊
Thanks - a helpful tutorial for me making cushion covers today
Thank you SO much for your tutorials. So much!
You’re welcome :)
❤ thank you so much for showing this technique.
I like the size of that pillow, big and comfy.
Thanks . A perfect lesson. Just about to do some cushion covers with fringing 🙏🏻
Thank you!!
Love your videos! Keep ‘em coming!
Nice job. Thanks.
Great video thank you for sharing 🙏
Very helpful
Thanks alot 🙏
so if your pillow is final cut 23x23. you have : 1 cut at 23x23, 1 cut at 4x23 , and 1 cut at 23x?
Could you utilize this method on a pillow with fringe and tapered corners? Maybe by making the zipper smaller on both sides to allow for the taper?
Yes! A slightly shorter zipper and if you need a significant taper, you might want to come up a little more from the bottom. You still won't see it :)
I use brush fringe a lot and can't wait to see how you use yours. Mine is a bit janky
Coming soon!
I understand that the short piece is 4 inches wide, but what size is the attaching piece cut to? 23 X ? , thank you
It’s however wide your pillow piece is x 4”. For example my pillow cover is 23” wide so my strip is 23 x 4. If your pillow piece is 18” wide your strip would be 18 x 4
I'm making a seat cushion with boxing. I have to put the zipper on the front so of course I want it to be invisible. The cushions will be reversibible, so I need the zipper to remain invisible no matter which side the cushion is placed on. I was thinking I could make one lip of the zipper strip wider than the other and put Velcro to hold the hidden, insides of the strip together.
Hmmm, Velcro might be a bit bulky but it's worth a try. Maybe if the closure has to be on the front of the cushion you could do something decorative like buttons or ties?
Yeah, I originally was thinking buttons. I think I'll do one of each lol. I have to make four in total so I can experiment with the first two. Thank you so much! You're very awesome 💛
I was thinking the velcro might be uncomfortable. I'm thinking of actually making a hidden zipper like in this video except on the center line of the boxing strip using a lighter gauge zipper and medium-light weight cotton. So thank you very much for this tutorial, as it applies to two different kinds of cushions that I'm making
What size zippers do you use on home dec pillows? Invisible/regular? Thanks! Good video

This fabric is gorgeous. I wonder if it’s still available. Do you have a link?
I’m sorry I don’t. A designer brought it to me and I don’t have the notes anymore.
Do you use this method with invisible zippers as well as an alternative way to insert an invisible zipper? I like the little flap this creates.
No I use a different method for invisible zippers. There are a couple of videos on my channel on how I insert those :)
Sorry, i think i figured it out. 2 cuts of 23x23 and 1 cut at 4x23. It's the folding of one inch that threw me off. Hope thats correct. 🙋♀
Yup you got it 😉 A front and back that match, and an extra strip

What sewing machine do you use?
As always, great tutorial. Thanks Nancy!
What size thread do you use since there’s visible top stitching? I’m worried my V-69 will be too heavy.
I use a pretty lightweight thread - like serger thread. My problem is that I often have to go over my stitching twice to get enough strength, but I want to be able to use my big cones of thread on any machine so I just deal with it 😏
Good to know. Thanks!
What kind of sewing machine do you use? It looks industrial
Yes it’s industrial. It’s the only way to go if you sew for a living! This one is an old Mitsubishi LS2-2210. Love Juki industrial machines too.
