I've been an upholsterer for 35 yrs.
with vast experience in sewing. In my opinion, this is the best video on UA-cam on how to sew a corded pillow with an invisable zipper.

You can see Nancy was factory-trained in industrial methods and techniques by the way she holds the fabric and sews.
You can get really close to the zipper on the welt side by using the cording foot It works great!!
I show my clients the some sample pillows with tapered corners and the non-tapered corners. The select the tapered (non dogeared) comers every time.
Thanks for sharing the two methods! I use invisible zippers exclusively since I do only pillows, so my method has to be a little different, but it's great to see how other pros do it. Question -- what type of welt cord do you ladies prefer for indoor pillows? I've tried various thicknesses and varieties of cord and haven't settled on my favorite yet.

Oh, reason I am a beginner...lol!
Oh, and one more thing I noticed is that your corners were so clean. I have a hard time getting really close to the cord but not sewing OVER the cord at the corners, then having to redo the corners. I do find it's easier with stiffer cord.

Wonderfully helpful, thank you! Question - will there always be some tape showing when an invisible zipper is installed in a welted pillow? I've used your methods plus a couple of others, and no matter how I install the invisible zipper on the welted side, there is always some tape showing. I was hoping you would show what each of your covers looks like when filled and the zipper is closed, so I could see what is acceptable, with reasonable expectations for what is "professional". Any advice you can give is so very much appreciated.
Thanks for commenting! Jeanelle says there is usually a small amount (1/16"-1/8") of tape showing on the side that is stitched next to the cord. She finds it necessary to have enough space to comfortably slide the pull. The tape is not usually visible because the pillow sits with the zipper on the bottom and the lump of the cord keeps it hidden.

I loved both methods. I'm new at installing an invisible zipper onto a toss pillow, as demonstrated. I don't have a skinny zipper foot as illustrated. My CONSEW has a normal zipper foot, which after watching this video, mine is quite wide. SO, could I use my most narrow single cording foot, and place cording groove on top of the zipper and welt cord? I don't know how else to get really close. Thanks.

I tried that and it didn't work well for me. The needle got stuck in the teeth! But, you never know for sure until you try. Please post the results if you try it. :)
Kefir Heals yes you can use a cording foot for zipper installation.
i know the title says INVISIBLE ZIPPERS but thought you said nylon coiled somewhere. what kind of zipper did you use, invisible or nylon coiled that you made invisible by technique? sorry i m really new.
Are you still located in Tryon NC? I'm from NC ? I'm in China Grove and have watched this video numerous times. Still ended up putting the zipper in backwards. I'm at the point where I need a professional to do these pillows as I don't have the time to learn to do it correctly myself. Are there any people/places who make these with material provided by me, near us in NC?
