@Adwig25 W I still have hope
Robin Hood Men in Tights
Undercover brother
@Adwig25 W those are the only movies I've been hoping for
Robin hood men in tights has to be next
Iconic movie....the accent thing ALWAYS reminds me of Men In Tights.
"Because, unlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent" 😂
Now time to watch Robin Hood: Men in Tights
YES!!
"I said HEY"
I was literally going to comment this 😂 one of the Mel Brooks greats. My favourite line, "oh sir your back, oh you lost you arms in battle, but you grew some nice boobs.
Yes! The best Robin Hood movie
“Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent” 😂😂
There's a clip online of Alan Rickman getting a BAFTA award for this movie and he said "It just goes to show you, subtlety isn't everything!"
I love this movie so much. Alan Rickman is so amazing. "...AND CALL OFF CHRISTMAS!!"
That line was made up by him
"At least I didn't use a spoon".
If you're reacting to this you have to react, get Calvin to react, to Robin Hood Men in tights. It's a must!
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!!!!! Oh, and did I forget to mention...YES!!!
Now, THAT'S my favourite Robin Hood movie. I agree with your recommendation!
Yes do it
And you've grown magnificent brests
RIP Alan Rickman. This was the first movie I ever saw him in.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is one of my favorite movies and 2nd favorite adaptation of the Robin Hood story; right behind the animated Disney version. Of course the 3rd favorite is Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
I agree! All 3 were apart of my childhood. I'm sad that a lot of people don't bring up the animated Robin Hood enough.
@@isabeauwolf562 as am I 😢
Sir hisss
@@sabrinajolly3485 & Prince John the Phony King of England
Question: Have you seen the _Robin of Sherwood_ TV series?
It's like Rickman is in a entirely different movie. It's gloroius.
By Grabthar's hammer...
@@CaptainFrost32 What a savings
This is the one version of Robin Hood I've seen that actually shows the process of how a spoiled upper crust guy becomes a hero of the common man, rather than just starting with him fully formed as we know him. And it's colored pretty much everything I've seen of him since.
Well, in _Robin of Sherwood_ he is not an upper crust guy but the Son Of Herne. But _then,_ when he's done his thing, someone picks up the mantle...
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Yep. Also if this is true, Prince of Thieves basically copying Robin of Sherwood anyway by having an arabic character in the Merry Men and even were going to call him Nasir before being told Nasir was a RoS creation and not part of any previous adaption or legend. "After stuntman Terry Walsh, whilst working on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, (he had previously also worked on Robin of Sherwood) pointed out to the makers of the Hollywood film that Nasir was not a character in the original Robin Hood legend, Morgan Freeman's character's name was changed to Azeem in order to avoid this possible lawsuit. "
@@carn9507 interesting!
@@carn9507 I like the show. I like the movie. If you want to do Robin Hood "Gritty", that's how you do it. But currently I would like to see another cheezy one I think...(frankly, all the others I like have been made by Disney....)
True, but it also was completely miscast. If you've never seen the BBC Robin Hood show, it does a pretty good job with that and features the only Sheriff that rivals Rickman for scene-stealing.
I really appreciate how you guys got that they landed at Dover (300 miles away from Nottingham) then immediately overshoot Nottingham by about 200 miles north. 500 miles in a day 😂
I can forgive them using Hadrian's wall as a location - it's never actually stated that it is Hadrian's Wall so it's probably supposed to be some other piece of stonework somewhere between Dover and Nottingham (the same way as the forest scenes are filmed in the Republic of Ireland rather than the actual Sherwood Forest). What bugs me with that scene though is that when Azeem asks which way is east Robin points to his LEFT, which means they're walking SOUTH. Which shows that it's not supposed to be Hadrian's Wall since that runs east to west, but it does make their 300 mile hike northwards from Dover to Nottingham in less than a day even more implausible.
@@stevedowdy1 I completely didn't notice Robin's terrible internal compass 😂
Gotta love how Kevin Costner doesn’t even attempt at doing an English accent in this.
Exactly! This Robin Hood grew up in Compton, Ca. 😂
"Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an english accent" ^^
Man, they really have to watch a couple of Mel Brooks movies someday.
We actually have no idea what an English accent sounded like back then.
@@Rmlohner Exactly. Literally everyone's accent is equally wrong in this movie (never mind they would all be speaking Middle English)
@@zammmerjammer not exactly! The smallfolk and Anglo-Saxons of course, but the Sheriff, Marian, Peter, the Bishop, King Richard would rather speak an old fashioned french as the Normans they are
There is a Robin Hood movie that was produced around the same time with Uma Thurman as Marian which focuses more on the Anglo-Saxon & Norman conflict that still existed around 130 years after The Conquest
I know a lot of people think this movie isn't that great but I absolutely love it. Great cast, tons of funny moments (my family and I always quote "and call off Christmas!")
Still my favorite Robin Hood movie to this day.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights is better
Mine too.
Also: in the twelfth doctor episode "robot of Sherwood" 12 fights robin with a SPOON
Because it's dull.
The character of Azeem is based on the character of Nasir in Robin of Sherwood. He was played by Mark Ryan in the 80’s
Sean Connery was the only actor that could get away with playing a Russian Submarine Commander and STILL keep his Scottish accent.
no reaction shot to sean connery?! SIN
no but omg. i saw this in the theater when i was like 13 and was obsessed with it for a good year, had the movie poster on my bedroom wall and everything. then a few years later when people started making fun of costner's lack of accent i went back and watched it again and was like "this is SHIT what was wrong with me?" and THEN. then everybody started to realize how fantastic and campy it was anyway, and now it's a cult classic. amazing. thank you guys.
One of the 10 VHS that for over a decade I would put on as I went to bed. Love it, shame that Michael Kamen passed so long ago, a composer that ranks right up there with the best.
You can really see how much Alan Rickman enjoyed the haminess of his character.
Also, you'll have to watch Robin Hood Men in Tights now. It's the law.
Alan Rickmans best Role but pls don´t cancel Christmas
For some reason, when I think of Alan Rickman movies, I never think of this one. It's always Die Hard & the Harry Potter series first, but this one...not so much. But he was one of the reasons that this movie was a favorite of mine, at one time. It still holds up, even tho I haven't seen it in years. I have to go and watch it again now. lol
Looks like Calvin enjoyed it as much as Rick & Eric. Good stuff.
I do hope they react to Galaxy Quest someday... (Alan Rickman made me think of it haha)
I once had a book that went into the background of the major stars. It also had a short interview with the director and the stunt coordinator. The stunt coordinator was quoted as saying that he had his heart in his throat for most of the filming of this movie. He had two reasons for this feeling, and they both had to do with Kevin Costner. The first reason was that Kevin Costner insisted on doing as many of his own stunts as possible. In fact, he did all but two of them himself. In fact, he did all but two of them. One was when he was swinging on the rope during the forest fire scene, the rope burned through, and he fell to the ground. The other was when he swung from the roof and went through the window into the sheriff's chapel. In other words, Kevin Costner was actually the one in the catapult when he went over the wall. The other reason was that Kevin Costner had worked with the director, Kevin Reynolds, on an earlier film. This meant that he (Costner) knew how Kevin Reynolds thought and what he'd (Reynolds) would be looking for in certain shots. While they were filming the forest scenes, Kevin Costner would grab a tree branch, lean out over a 30-foot drop (with nothing underneath him), and yell down, "Hey, Kevin, is this more what you wanted!??!". He (Costner) didn't stop at doing it just once; he kept doing it.
God bless Calvin. He can see all of the problems with the movie and does NOT ruin it for his buddies who have 'blind love' for the movie from watching it as younglings and leaving deep positive impressions with them.
There is a great moment in the film where a little girl comes up to Azzem and asks if God painted him... He takes the time to sit back, think about it and give a thoughtful answer to a very curious child
I still sing “there was a man from Nottingham who tried to cross a river, what a dope he tripped on a rope now look at him shiver” every time I go near a river lol 😂
I did not expect this, but I love it :)
I miss Alan Rickman so much :'(
When I grew up, a friend and I (who lived in different towns) would watch this film every time we met, and quote it in letters to each other inbetween. You could say it was one of my first fandoms. 🙂
Another awesome Kevin Costner movie you guys should check out is Dances with Wolves
My favorite Christian Slater line (before Mr Robot) - "F*ck me, he cleared it!"
Alan Rickman is so hot!
I’m English and I don’t care that Kevin Costner didn’t do the English accent, he’s my favourite Robin Hood. I love this movie.
'Because its dull you twit it'll hurt more! Alan Rickman is fucking brilliant in this! Well and everything else his in too but especially this
Should watch Dragonheart since you guys make so many references to it. My childhood. Hearing to the stars makes me tear up every time.
Always makes me sad to see Jack Wild. He played Dodger in Oliver Twist 1968. A great actor with a tragic life.
I'd love to see you guys react to "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" and also "The Adventures of Robin Hood" starring Errol Flynn, the CLASSIC and definitive version of Robin Hood for 50 years before Prince of Thieves came along.
Ah the nostalgia, such a great movie and I also must have watched it countless of times growing up on vhs
that gimli impression was cleeeean
When I saw the title I thought to myself... there's a pre 2000 Robin Hood movie I haven't seen?... it was a great surprise that I actually remember some of the scenes in the start. I'm really gonna enjoy rewatching this with the crew =)
Might be my most watched movie of all time.. as a kid this tape was getting rewound at least twice a day lol..
Alan Rickman is just so good in this, he adds so much to the comedic role
I have always enjoyed this Movie but your right about Alan Rickman he makes this film as for Kevin Costner he only okay still the best Robin Hood is Errol Flynn tights as well, not many Men can wear them and still be great.
Oh wow. I never noticed it was Brian Blessed as his dad, Lord Loxley.
The extended edition actually makes it clear that the witch was the Sheriff mother.
Really vibing the pride pin Calvin has been wearing on his hat for awhile now
cant believe I am only finding this now!! I guess my algorithm knows I am searching for movies that i LOVE :)
In high school we did the Theme for our marching band field show
13:59 the little one of the left is the actor who played Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist
I heard that Alan Rickman and some friends of his came up with some of the best lines in the film.
One of my favorite movies of all time.
I never knew that about Sean Connery’s salary! Such a neat factoid.
Rick's love of this movie has elevated my love of this movie! Reaction needed to be longer though.
Watch the entire movie on Patreon! 🤣🤣
I know it's not the greatest movie, but this was my favorite movie when I was 11-13. I had the biggest crush on Christian Slater for years (ever since gleaming the cube). At least once a month I would watch three movies: Robin Hood, Newsies, Time Trackers
R.I.P Actors & Actresses who were alive in the flesh back then during the filmings.
Costner was supposed to train with an accent coach before he started shooting but the shoot for Dances With Wolves went over and he didn't have time. He tried at the beginning. He and the director probably thought it'd be less distracting just to use his regular accent.
Great movie, but the 1938 "The Adventures of Robin Hood" starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland is still my favorite Robin Hood movie.
Same, that's my absolute favorite!
One of my absolute favorite movies! The chemistry between Flynn and de Havilland, the duel of Flynn and Basil Rathbone, everything in that movie is amazing!
@@ifeelpretty5790 That was my second Robin Hood movie me and my dad use to watch it on TCM usually on a weekend.
Have you guys ever seen Kenneth Branagh's version of Henry V, it's a fantastic film full of mud and gore!
And a great score! :)
"I'll cut your heart out with a spoon!"
Me: Why a spoon?
"Because it'll hurt more!"
To this day, it's my favorite quotes of all time
"I'll *CUT* your heart out with a spoon!"
@@dragonrune2257 Thanks for that correction
I'm not sure which order things happened but the moment when "King Richard" charged out yelling that very distinct sound and I made the connection that it was Brian Blessed who played the lead Hawk Man in Flash Gordon was a very exciting day for me.
You mean Robert of Locksley? King Richard is at the end of the film.
Man, it's been a long time since I've watched this movie in its entirely. Used to own the VHS and would always watch it. And the Brian Adams song was a HUGE HIT!
Honestly, I stopped watching it because I liked the German dub and they (for some stupid reason) changed it a while back. The movie has become unwatchable since then, at least in German.
This puts Robbin Hood: Men in Tights in so much context. I've seen it so many times and thought the only reference to this movie was that Carey Elwes could do an accurate accent
Did you guys ever show Calvin, Robin Hood Men in Tights? I can't find a reaction to it, but surely it's a must after seeing this. EDIT: I just noticed i put a similar comment two years ago 😂
This movie needs to become a youtube reaction meme, every reactor out there owes to himself/herself to watch it.
The book is called Reel Bad Arabs by Jack Shaheen. I wrote my Master's thesis in part on this movie (it was on how 9/11 affected the portray of Arabs/Muslims in Hollywood), and that book was one of my primary references.
This was my Robin Hood.
The extended cut is awesome.
Prince of Thieves was one of 2 films about Robin Hood that came out at the same.
Obviously it dominated over the other.
I watched this film so many times as a kid - I think I may have known it word for word at one point. Thanks for the reaction, fellas!
I really enjoyed watching YOUR reactions to this. The obvious delight and enjoyment is infectious, lol. It has been a while since I've watched this flick but I used to love it so much. The bad thing is, I've watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights so much and more recently, that it was hard to stop comparing and mentally seeing the alternates to the scenes, 😂😂.
I love that Kazeem performed a C-sectiin when Trained Measter couldn't.
Maesters are not a real thing, that's a completely GOT thing and he's an alcoholic friar who by all rights shouldn't have accepted Azeem at all, even if Azeem was helpful, at the time him accepting a Muslim would have been cause enough for him to be a heretic, while still a godly man Tuck clearly doesn't take his position as seriously as other monks or friars, it's highly likely he never bothered to learn much about medicine, he was a brewer mostly.
12:09 I love that line.
Great movie, great reactions. Makes me appreciate the movie more. Please react to "A Knight's Tale " starring Joker and Vision...I mean Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany.
For a second i thought they're reacting to Robin Hood: Men in tights!
I remember watching this film so many times as a kid :D Alan Rickman was a national treasure we lost him too soon.
Historical accuracy aside, I still love this movie. It was awesome to see you guys watch it.
now you need to watch Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
My mom has a cousin who did the family tree and she found that my 25th great grandfather was one Robin Longstride Loxley a.k.a. Robin of Loxley a.k.a. Robin Hood. Of all the Robin Hood films, this is my favorite.
9:54 I think he should be more worried about his broken hand than his facial scar 😂
Okay. Now do Men in Tights. :-)
Kevin Costner is actually good in period movies. They just have to be Westerns. He's great in a Western film.
Had a lot of fun watching this back in the day (mostly because the movie's a lot of fun - Rickman leaving no scenery knowingly unchewed etc. - but sure, partly because if you're from the UK there's _also_ some unintentionally funny stuff).
Can you give an example of some unintentionally funny stuff ?
@@dragonrune2257 Well, Blind Wave actually mention probably the biggest one i'd say. Robin lands in Sussex (south coast of England) then walks across Hadrian's Wall (Roman ruins in the very north of England, about 400 miles away) to get to Nottingham (in the middle of England). In US terms it'd be like arriving in New York headed for Chicago but part way through showing them walking past the "Hollywood" sign :). And of course it seems to take about a day rather than the month or more it'd actually take.
Then there's the "accent" (which lasts about the first 5 minutes of the movie :), everyone generally being clean, pestilence free and film star good looking etc. There may be more, not seen it in over 20 years.
@@anonymes2884 ty. I get what your saying in the first Paragraph. 😅
I finally understand the jokes from Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
3:10 Ya'll crazy; they didn't have CGI then. They didn't come out with that until I think early 2000's. Hell the Internet didn't even come out until like I think 1993.
I L.O.V.E. this movie!!!! Alan ... just great... r.i.p. ! Only actor that comes near to his genius and has a smiliar energy is Adam Driver these days. But I truly love the whole cast / adaptation. So much heart and fun, good action and romantic stuff. For me the best adaptation besides the one with Russell Crowe
"Battle of the Bastards, Rick"
Don't know why that made me laugh so much.
You guys should all watch Men In Tights next 😆
Every time I watch A Knights Tale it reminds me of this movie because the actor for Little John's in it.
I love this film! Fantastic score, great action, great actors. Seen it countless times!
First Robin Hood for me is Erroll Flynn The Adventures of Robin Hood 1938.
Just great seeing Snape and McGonagall together again
Man, Hans Gruber sure had an exiting life: International terrorist, wizard, sheriff of Nottingham, star of a popular scifi series - what a guy.
@Jose Arroyo Are you referring to this movie? Maggie Smith isn't in this movie....
Mortianna is played by Geraldine McEwan.
I used to watch this all the time. Such a great movie.
Ok, but now you HAVE to watch Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Even though Costner has an American accent, it's still the best Robin Hood movie, the accent doesn't really matter, films can be weird like that, it's more about the energy of it
I was writing a comment about being annoyed at Connery popping up as King Richard at the end but you missed that part out
Nottingham is 200 miles from Dover, yet they walk it in an afternoon.
This means that men in tights is a given right
0:24 "I probably snapped that VHS tape" which one? did yours not come on two tapes? every copy i ever saw was a double.
Now do Robin Hood Men In Tights 😁😁 the comparison would be hilarious
Yes!
24:25 Haven't watched any Sean Connery movies since he passed?
"There can be only one!"
I haven't seen this film in years! (And yes, I too, had it on VHS, lol.)
Along with the Gonnies and Star Wars, it was our prised VHS! I even drew a new sleeve for it when we lost the case and had to buy a new one 🤩
Yeah, I almost wore out my VHS copy.
Btw speaking of swords, middle age and Sean Connery...you realy should react to Highlander , one of the most iconic movies ever
