    tack! i had no idea of the inflections of snälla!! one suggestion: the written words flash by too quickly to see; i know everyone learns differently, and for me they help me cement the phrase in my brain. tusen tack!

    Worth mentioning is that "tack tack" lessens the thanking compared to just "tack". Doubeling a word like that in Swedish creates a dimunitive.

    • @SqueamishNerd
      @SqueamishNerd 2 роки тому +3

      That really depends on emphasis and intonation. Emphasis on the first tack and going down in the intonation is more polite, especially if you also give a little nod while saying it. Emphasis on the second tack, or to say the second tack longer than the first tack, is more informal and relaxed, often the intonation is raised in this situation but not always.
      I would also say that this is the case with "Hej hej" and other doublings of words too.

    Love your videos, so helpful Daniella thank you! You have a great sense of humor ( the peach butts and funny notations in the background). Much appreciated, it keeps me laughing and learning. Quick question..do you always need to use ‘kunna’ with ‘skulle’? I am a little unclear about the word ‘kunna’ in your examples.. thanks again!

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! 😍. To answer your question the skulle kunna combo is what makes it a could. Kunna comes form Kan. You could use skulle without kunna for other things 😊. Not necessarily polite Swedish.

    • @eftersolen
      @eftersolen 2 роки тому +1

      If I may add, I'm learning Swedish myself, and the best way I found to explain this is: *SKULLE* alone means _would_ (as in "Jag skulle vilja göra det." _I would like to do it_ ) whereas *SKULLE KUNNA* together is _could_ in the future, in the sense of a possibility (as in "Jag skulle kunna göra det imorgon." _I could do it tomorrow_ ). Of course, _could_ can also be used in the past, when we were able to do something, so for that you use *KUNDE* (as in "Jag kunde göra det igår" _I could do it yesterday_ ). Just don't confuse it with "kund" which means "customer" 👍

    I have an off topic question...
    About future tense in Swedish, is it still correct to use "skall" instead of "ska" as a future tense mark?

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  Рік тому +1

      Great question! I have mostly seen it written, in spoken language we use "ska". Maybe if you want to talk very old Swedish you can use "skall" but it would sound a bit weird nowadays.

      You can say both " Skulle du kunna ge mig notan" or "notan, tack" :) With the shorter one it is extra important to sound polite and kind when you say it.

      @@FunSwedish Men "thanks to you" kan ju också ha mer än en mening, beroende på situationen. Jag antar att Martines översättning blir bättre som "I give my thanks to you", även om det inte är något som man verkligen säger på engelska. "Thanks to you" betyder ju mer vanligtvis "tack vare dig".
