Early 70s were great. Old man now but will never forget the bomb run for the Barstow to Vegas race. 3000+ riders lined up! One day a neighbor came by my cabin in the So. Utah mountains and noticed some district 37 desert racing pictures on my garage wall. I ask him if he ever raced in the desert and he said a little bit. His name was Tom Smith and he won the Barstow to Vegas race in the early 70s. Small world!
Do you remember Jack Morgan? Not sure if he ever won a race overall but always finished in the top ten on a little Hodaka. I was in a club called the Brush Busters.
@@gladegoodrich2297 yes, he was the guy to beat in the 100cc class. I came up with a fool proof plan to always come in second. Just get on Jack’s rear fender and follow him across the finish so I lined up next to him on the start and we took off and stayed together until he shifted to 5th gear. He had a new factory 100cc five speed and my poor 90cc 4 speed couldn’t keep up. Those were the days!
I raced desert from 1972 to 1995 There's nothing on earth like being in a start with 400 other riders ready willing & able to use your body for traction, then seeing the finish line after a long day racing. I'd do it all over again
Actually I'm looking for a bike to race next summer in 60 & over class, figured I might as well I'm already racing my Ducati's on asphalt killin the 20 something's
I'm only 75 and waiting untill I'm 80. That way I will not remember all the broken bones and hospital stays. Going to Glen Helen and get 1st place in the over 80 class. Every body else will be dead so how can I lose?
"I'd do it all over again" just made me so happy. I want to be able to look back and say the same thing. Been riding since I was 6, and it's been pretty rocky since my dad passed. I'm 35 with two young ones now, and I just want to get back at it with my little brother and show my kids what it's all about--fun with your family and friends.
Great video, I especially liked the start and bomb run footage. I always try to tell guys how gnarly it is and how you fight all the way to the bomb to stay ahead of the dust. D-37 is where it all began.
well done in black and white. I started riding in the mid 1970's and my dream was always the Barstow to vegas race. It was epic. Here locally we have the StumpJumpers "Desert 100" that has a standing start for all competitors. The last race was 2019 with just shy of 1000 bikes starting all at the same time for the main event!
My dad raced B to V in the 70’s on a BSA 441 Victor. Mom and us kids were the pit crew. Used to go to the desert all the time. Last 30 years I’ve been on the east coast Racing In the trees. Maybe one day will get to go back to the desert. Thanks for the movie! J N was king. Dad still talks about how far out front he would be after the first fire bomb.
Damn, thank you - thank you, absolutely amazing as that was my childhood in the early '70's. Soooo many incredible memories eventhough I was to young to race but I had many relatives and a few brothers who did. Desert Knights MC. Been in Oregon since the mid 70's but my daughter and I are in the early stages of planning a trip down this spring to take me back to where this obsession with the SOCAL Desert began, with bikes this time!
The video in black n white made the blend of the old and new footage work well together. Couldn't tell the difference from the enthusiasm... Thanks - Buck n Willcox

Did the desert MC rats race a couple years ago.... The completion pin is something I'm very proud of.... Wish this race had that ending.... It was gnarly!!!🤘🤘🤘❤️
If you want to make money well then you need to get some cool merchandise to sell weather it be Hats, T shirts, Hoodie's, Key Chain's, Coffee Mugs etc. The only thing is you have the right catchy logo or name or phrase and then it's the fonts you use ( lettering ) then colors or coloring But if you look at the end of Danger Boy, Gypsy Tales, MotoCross Vault pod casts they all are reminding us to check out the new Merch!!!!!!
They don't live in the valley floors really they prefer the rockier terrain and even in the rocks tortoises are way rarer than you might think. I've been racing for years and only I've seen one on a play ride
@@chuckmcscmuck7711 I have been in the desert including racing for 43 years with one of these clubs, and competed is the Check Chase many times. I have never seen one tortoise, not once.

Likewise I raced the B to V in early seventies on a DT1 Yamaha and a 100cc Hodaka. Those were the days of 3 inch suspensions and your ass knew it!

What a great film. I come from D38 days of Fud racing in the 80s and 90s. You guys up in D37 were faster though cuz you had way more rocks. Awesome
