Lynne was producing Harrison's 1987 album when they started talking about starting a band and who they would all invite. I think they may have been recording at Dylan's studio at the time as well.
Sweet Talking Woman Can’t get it out of my head Telephone Line Livin’ Thing Do Ya Don’t bring me down Strange Magic When I was a boy Turn to stone Evil Woman Showdown All great hits by ELO
I grew up in this era during middle and high school and this was a staple in clubs, dances, and FM radio! You can definitely hear a little bit of the "disco era" in this song and influence in the beat, tempo, and music from that era. This album was their only album where they released a show of videos for all the songs in lieu of touring to promote the album. The Electric Light Orchestra was feeling the effects of many years of touring and Lynne and the band decided the best course to promote this album was to create various videos of all the songs and incorporate it into an album TV show more or less. All of the songs from the album have accompanying videos. The entire album reflects the disco era and the album spawned several hits for ELO who were coming off of a very successful double album prior to this one being released. Jeff Lynne eventually had a falling out with the original band and only Richard Tandy came back to play at times in the new Jeff Lynne's ELO. The remaining members created a band called ELO II but had conflicts with Jeff Lynne and eventually it led to a court action which decided that Lynne was the sole owner of the songs from Electric Light Orchestra as he wrote most (if not all) of their songs over the years. Lynne is one of the brightest musical minds of our era and an icon in the music world. He has also worked with many other musical artists over the years and still does up to this very day.
Electric Light Orchestra’s concerts were so much fun. Their light show was pretty impressive for 1977-78. Their use of orchestral instruments sparked the imaginations of many a band and orchestra student. Suddenly Classical instruments had a place in modern music. It was a great time.
Electric Light Orchestra was without a doubt, one of our very best British bands ever. Was FORTUNATE enough to experience them in concert during this era, they BLEW ME AWAY and their light show lived up to their name IN A BIG WAY!!! They were some of the first to use laser lights at their concerts. Afterwards I was fortunate to meet the dummer Bev Bevan (former THE MOVE ) and the very kind and generous piano and keyboard player Richard Tandy, WHAT A NIGHT ❤ ❤ ❤ LOVE, HUGS, PEACE, GOD BLESS & STAY SAFE ❤ ❤ ❤
We do indeed and as tastes are different I would say we have something to cater for everyone. I LOVE all kinds of music from classical music, over rock, ska, punk to pop. Every kind of music has it´s top bands. I was young in the sixties, so most of my favourite bands are from that era, and both Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan came from the sixties band called THE MOVE, where also Roy Wood came from but he left ELO, very early on to create his own band The Wizzards.. Many FABULOUS British bands all with their special talents . @@deanosaur808
@@deanosaur808 There definitely are many British bands that are absolutely perfect. Jeff Lynne's ELO is just one of them. I disagree with "some a lot better", as it is impossible to be better than perfect. You may like some of the other perfect bands more, but that doesn't make them "better". Some - even Jeff Lynne himself, modest as he is - might say that the Beatles are on a level of their own, but I disagree - just try to listen to Jeff's version of _Day Tripper_ from 1974 and compare it with the original. The ELO version - IMO - is a big improvement.
My favorite band of all-time. It is now called Jeff Lynne's (lead singer) ELO. Jeff writes, arranges, produces, and plays almost all the instruments on the recordings. He is the only regularly appearing original member left. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. He is a musical genius who has worked with some of the all-time greats of Rock and Roll as producer, bandmate, etc. John Lennon once said ELO is what the Beatles may have turned into if they had stayed together longer. They are headed out on their final tour later this year. I've already got tix :) This band is so amazing live. Some other songs I recommend: Turn to Stone, Rockaria, Showdown, Fire on High, Roll Over Beethoven (cover of Chuck Berry's song), Tightrope and Mr. Blue Sky. I could go on and on. If nothing else, you'll greatly increase your playlist ;) Enjoy!
🇬🇧 "Evil Woman" "Don't Bring Me Down" "Mr Blue Sky" " , Telephone Line" "Do Ya" "Rockaria" & the list goes on. Guys, ELO are my Number One All Time Favourite Band. Lead singer (Jeff Lynn) is a genius, he's amazing. They have a plethora of "hits" for you to react to. I think you're going to love em, (at least I hope you do). ❤🎼🎶
Jeff Lynne is from my home City of Birmingham, UK and is a great musician and producer. Yes E.L.O. are a British group. They sound just as good live as they did on the studio versions.
ELO is from England. This is a jam! But this band had tremendous success with so many songs - "Mr. Blue Sky", "Telephone Line", "Evil Woman", "Turn to Stone", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Living Thing"...and more. Their hits never stop! This band found a style of their own. During this era of music the artists still made their OWN music without feeling the pressure of the record companies telling them how to make them and what was a hit. So many artists took liberties with their music back then and the risks often times paid off.
ELO has been my favourite band of all time. Saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO a number of years ago, row 6. Going to see them again in a month. This song is probably their 10th most popular one of all time, as others have mentioned. Mr. Blue Sky, Turn to Stone, etc. etc. are amazing. Jeff Lynne is a LEGEND, has roots with the Beatles and others. Thanks for sharing and let’s have more ELO songs!!!!!!
This is the result of true pro's man. No fuckin around and can reproduce their tunes live. At their peak they were untouchable on vinyl and live. One of the best shows i have seen.
My fave band. Check out their Out Of The Blue concert. Their name came from what is often called a "light-orchestra," meaning a violin and a few cellos and they added in electric guitars, and it's an electric light-orchestra. Mik, the "blue violinist" still plays a blue violin. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
***** All of these Musicians are Classically Trained. Saw Them in LA when Laser Effects were first New. White Satin Tuxedos & introduced by Tony Curtis & folks were yelling "HOUDINI."! 🎉
Mr. blue sky and telephone line are phenomenal ones that you would love to react to, they are a very eclectic band. Sometimes in some of their music, they have the most comparison to the Beatles that I could remember.
ELO have a ton of songs that will blow you away- just the creativity and thought that has gone into the production- Jeff Lynne’s voice is phenomenal; depending on what you’re in the mood for they have a bit of everything- upbeat fun tracks and downbeat ballads that will make the hairs on your neck stand up… would love some more 👍👍
I've heard of it and I've heard it, but I couldn't have hummed it before it started playing. Also, the first notes of the chorus "last train to London" reminds me of Horace Wimp, and I kept wanting to hear that instead. Not sure why.
I LOVE ELO! My sister saw them in concert in the 70's and had all of their albums. I then got all of their albums and cd's. They are AMAZING! I love all of their music. I especially love "One Summer Dream" and "Livin' Thing", "Midnight Blue", and so many more. If you haven't seen it yet be sure and check out their concert tour video ELO - Zoom Tour Live. They are still absolutely phenomenally gifted!! Definitely worth going down the ELO rabbit hole!!
OMG I thought I was the only one that thought that part sounded like Mary Tyler Moore, lol, and I`ve been listening to this song since it first came out.
In the 70's, when this was released and ELO was at it's most popular , Glam rock was a big thing, it continued into the 80's and looking fem was part of it. Burt Cummings wrote Glamour Boy about it and how he isn't going to follow the tread.
The one synthesizer used in the middle solo is the Yamaha CS-80. It's one of the most expensive synthesizers you can buy used. The other synthesizer is the Moog Polymoog. That synth was used in Gary Numan's song Cars. The Yamaha CS-80 is available as a emulation from Arturia. You can buy it separately or part of the Arturia V-Collection 10. The V-Collection 10 has over 30 instruments. Check it out.
This song came out before "Funky Town". The reason they called the electric light orchestra was because they were using both electric and orchestral instruments.
You have a good excuse for not knowing this song if you're American. "Last Train to London" wasn't popular in America compared to the UK. It spent a few weeks on the Hot 100 in early 1980, peaking at 39 a bit over 44 years ago. ELO fans in the states should know it from the 1979 album "Discovery", which was certified double platinum in America by 1997.
I saw them in 1978 live in Philadelphia. The guys moved all over the stage with their instruments. It was crazy good. Please check out more of their music, you won’t be disappointed.
You sat there with that Well just listen to that man look on your face listening reminds me of my son as he looks the same when he hears something that tingles those music waves 😊😊
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. "SHOWDOWN" from ELO's 2014 concert in London's Hyde Park, and "EVIL WOMAN", performed at London's Wembley Stadium in 2017 are a definitive must! ELO is a fabulously deep rabbit hole!
These guys were my 1st ever favorite band. This song is from their album Discovery, which had some disco-ish overtones with the added little flashes of funk. I believe this was from 1979 or '80.
You have reacted to my two favourite bands.... The Electric Light Orchestra my lifetime favourites since the mid 70s and still plus Nightwish with Floor Jansen who I first heard 2 years ago at the age of 56. The Electric Light Orchestra like Nightwish is a deep, deep rabbit hole well worth investigating. ELO's "Last Train to London" is from the Discovery album that many call Disco Very due to a number of the album tracks have a disco vibe unlike most of their previous material that blended orchestral components with rock and opera. A unique sounding band that has transcended the ages. 🙏😊👍❤️
This is the mighty ELO from Birmingham England. You're in for a joyful ride if you get around to reacting to a few of their songs - there are plenty of bangers to choose from. Mr. Blue Sky has been voted the happiest song ever recorded. So maybe start with that one.
Jeff Lynne is a freaking musical genius. This is actually my favorite ELO song. Saw their 2018 tour and it was fantastic. They’re doing an “over and out” tour coming up. Highly recommend checking a show out if you can.
Group is from Birmingham UK-they were first called The Move-then morphed into Wizzard-then became ELO. To me their best work is side 3 of the album Out Of the Blue-Concerto For A Rainy day which is comprised of four songs that blend together-the first song sounding as if you're in a storm (Standin In The Rain) with the final song Mr. Blue Sky breaking out into an endless sunny day. A magnificent album side that will "wow" you in amazement.
The lead singer is from ‘Birmingham U.K. I think the song is about meeting a girl but she had to get back to London so ending their liaison, a great band with my favourite album being “time”.
Great band with a whole string of bangers. Jeff Lynne is the guy who headed up the band. He was a big fan of the beatles and tried to emulate some of their stuff while staying in his one lane. He was also in the Traveling Wilburys with a whole slew of other famous musicians ( Tom Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan) He is just an amazing song writer. Other songs to try, The Jungle, Mr Blue Skies (Weezer are huge fans and covered this on their teal album), Don't Bring Me Down. Turn to Stone, Living Thing, Sweet Talkin Woman, the list goes on and on.
Went to see ELO a couple of years ago and have to say it was possibly the best gig I have ever been to..... He is about to retire and I really want to go to the final tour.. Having seen The Foo Fighters and bands like Muse who put on amazing shows that is saying something... Not a band I am massive fan of but live it is something special. You need to check out the Travelling Willburys as he was one of the guys behind that band too..
"Mister Blue Sky" is officially the most happy song in Pop-History.
You can't be grumpy after listening to it. Check it out!
LOVE "Mr. Blue Sky" ... THE sound of the late 70s ...
That is TRUTH! The MOST upbeat song ever.

Jeff Lynne(singer) joined George Harrison, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison in the band The Traveling Wilburys.
Don't forget Bob Dylan.

Love ELO! Never heard this one, though! They have mad bangers, but definitely check our Evil Woman!
Love ELO and yes they are from the UK. Telephone Line and Livin' Thing are two of my favourites worth listening to
The lead singer is from ‘Birmingham U.K. I think the song is about meeting a girl but she had to get back to London so ending their liaison, a great band with my favourite album being “time”.
Do ELO's "Prologue+Twilight" next. This is from their futuristic concept album Time.
ELO (Jeff Lynne) is on Tour in the US this year. Wish I could see it live.. Check out Mr. Blue Sky, Don’t bring me down😉
Thanks for the memories. Heard this one alot as a brat in Germany!
Welcome too ELO massive selection of hits to pick from Mr Blue Sky,Rollover Beethoven just a couple
I mainly listened to a lot of older music when I was younger including ELO but I haven't heard this one. Good choice. 👍
