this is so much inspiration to me and i have a quick question im hoping you can anwser on the break down do you put it in every verse or only one? or did you use it for the hook? hope you can anwser keep making real hip hop, one
@rootiful i don't know about the 500, but check the manual or youtube if there's a note variation feature. on the earlier mpc's there's a button where you can switch from velocity or note variation. velocity changes the volume of a sample when you hit on different pads and note variation allows you to take a sample and change the pitch and tune by pressing on the different pads. you can get good bass sounds from different synth or low tune sounds and experiment with filtering.
where did you take drum samples from? from the record too or some set? btw, how come everything "glues" nice together? I always find it hard to make everything stick together to have that "soul"... compression? btw, that stuff rocks, just turned my mpc on again, cheers!
@ goldchainbeats..thanks. actually, i sampled this from vinyl, but you can sample from just about any source as long as you have rca outs. if you don't have a soundcard for your comp, get a headphone jack to rca cable and some 1/4" adapters and put it into the record-in inputs in the 2000. you can find 'em @ radio shack.
Dude, where can i get a copy of this beat you made? The good vibe too. Big! you gotta put it on your soundcloud account for download! Or on itunes to buy! big fan of your music, massive love!
I just found your videos now, and I'm wondering HOW THE FUCK did I never came across this before? I respect your style and skill so much, so much inspiration!
@ wickedhamprod. i don't know man, i got a thing for basslines. some of my major influences for me were pete rock, jay dee, hi-tek, dj spinna, etc. and the thing that stuck out to me the most besides their drums and samples were their basslines so i told myself that i would get nice with the basslines one day..LOL
@freestylelegalized i sampled it off vinyl, but if you listened in the video i said, "my homie doesn't have turntables, but i wanted to show you the sample anyway" so i had to rip the actual sample so i can play it on his computer
nice vid man..and u been DJ'ing for a while now..I can see how if you produce hip hop beats, having that DJ background helps tremendously. let's be honest, anybody can make a beat if you're a hip hop head. but ur DJ techniques help you sequence it, use different noises on the break, add build ups and stuff like that..nice beat btw
you basically try to find out the key note (the note that fits the sample best). you do that by playing the piano to it and then you know the key and play it with your bass
squeeks, dont take it negatively brotha, but you need to experiment instead of feeding off words from other cats. trust me its the best way to go. you'll come off original. peace!
"I always keep Deejays in mind when I make beats." Word!
Holy fuck this is holy grail I'm returning to this after like 15 years,
the bassline makes all the difference, nice!
Crazy beat man!
man if there was a rapper, this would be so tight .

im so into that dude! love what you did with the sample!!
thanks. not long. i spend more time coming up with basslines than sequencing. been making beats officially on the mp since '01.

Instead of "doo doo doo doo" you need to be like "doo doo dooka doo" sometimes. Feel meh?
That was fiyah though.

damn that was 2008.... I need lessons man.. I dj too, but im trying to make beats
@freestylelegalized i sampled it off vinyl, but if you listened in the video i said, "my homie doesn't have turntables, but i wanted to show you the sample anyway" so i had to rip the actual sample so i can play it on his computer

nas' one love kick?
did ever record it or sell that beat?
beautiful
Great stuff, man,
why are you so cool?!
awesome!!!
disko does your mpc have an internal zip drive?
@Wickedhamproductions i got a tip. you need to first compose the bassline in your head, and than find the right tones to play that
DOPE!!!!!!!!!!
Dave I have the hardest time making a bassline with my sample can you explain to me how you do it
you basically try to find out the key note (the note that fits the sample best). you do that by playing the piano to it and then you know the key and play it with your bass
thanks LX
He said it in the video. Take a low note, filter and 16 level it.
this is the shit yo
dayuumn
bro, you lol'd at me.. know wht? nevermind.. lol
this is fckin sick!
ill beat! haha btw decrescendo = diminuendo
squeeks, dont take it negatively brotha, but you need to experiment instead of feeding off words from other cats. trust me its the best way to go. you'll come off original.
peace!
yo where did you get the screen at?? mine is broke too...
nah i don't have an efx board. 16 levels can be your best friend sometimes. mess with the velocity and timing.
@Realizeskateboarding
