When do you thing people will stop using the word footage? My daughter uses the term “fast backwards” for rewind? She has no idea what rewind means, there is nothing to rewind anymore. This comment shows my age. I feel old.
It's a tiny, tiny thing, but I wonder if you could cook up a mount that would get your brake and shifter module on one clamp. A company called Problem Solvers makes one for my Shimano brakes & SRAM shifting and it's so nice to have it all on one clamp.
Love this project, lots of geek and "because I wanted to" factor. I don't do bar spins, but I like the idea of making my next bike more crash resistant by doing at least one of these mods.
There is a way to run your cables tidy enough and still allow the handlebars to spin 180 degrees. Never had my cables damaged after many crashes and broken bones.
Loved the cleanliness of the setup and the engineering behind it, but I do have to admit that I'm still iffy on the idea of having to _charge_ my bike.
A cable and a lever I at least have a chance of fixing trail side. Bash that remote or ... cable pulling box thing and you're single speeding it out. I think I'll let other people do the first few years of testing .
It’s refreshing to see him talk with the kid while he’s brainstorming how to nail the bar spin, It’s like they are old buddies. He’s just a humble down to earth kind of guy and great for the sport. I remember when I was a kid, most of the older guys we were riding with were dirtbags and not exactly positive influences.
Seth I fear its been a while since you learned pull up bars because it usually takes kids more than an afternoon to pull them (on a bmx at least). Took me probably a week of going out a few hours a day to get them consistently dialed. There are plenty of dudes at the skatepark that do flyout 360s, footjams and other "intermediateish" tricks without knowing how to pull up bar. They are kinda hard haha
You know, I think you might be right. When I was a kid, our BMX bikes had “Nyquist seats”, which were higher up, really padded, and easy to pinch. You really could learn in an afternoon on one of those. These days the seats are so small and low that it may take longer.
I've seen the method of pinching your crank arms with your feet gain popularity since seat posts have became so slammed. I know people like using that as a trick to improve their stability during suicide no-handers and similar tricks. Not sure if that would be useful at all on the trails, though.
I learned it in half an hour because I just learned them on one of those manual machines this made it really easy. I made something like seth with my enduro but just with longer cabels and taped them all thogehter, looks clean too
@Björgvin Máni Traustason Congrats! I definitely think you are an outlier, though. Unless you are coming into learning it with a decent amount of bike control it's gonna be hard to pull one on a BMX bike, consistently, after a few hours. Most people will be able to land a few but to get it down rolling more than twice in a row usually takes people at least triple that in practice.
You know how good your channel is Seth? I see the title, knowing full well that I'm probably going not to run wireless shifting anyway, but still watch the whole vid, because it's from Seth and I know it'll be good. Anyone relate? 😊
Love the clean handlebars. The fun factor seems high! The install looked straight forward. You have such a classic riding style. Very impressive. Always enjoy and appreciate your vids, and this was no exception! Will be interesting to see how durability rates in the long run... also, any frequency interruption from other more powerful sources???
By riding in the skating bowl you gave me an inspiration. Today I was searching for a spot where I could practice pre-hopping into a steeper section. I wanted to find a spot with a clearly visible edge and a clean landing. I wasn't succesful. After watching your video I know that I have to watch out for a skate park. A bowl or a half-pipe is the ideal terrain for practising. Thanks for that and thumbs up for your bike!
Just want to say that some dirt jump bikes that go to the extreme have a gyro for the back brake, front brake through the forks and gear lever on the underside of the top tube... I know most dj bikes only have a back brake and no other cables but front brake and gears are a thing and that's how they go about them. It works for the gears because they only have 5 or so gears and are hardly ever changing them so it's fine to place them in an awkward area in return for no tangles.
Goddamnit Seth.... The man can do NO WRONG! Every video, I learn something, I'm excited to hit the thumbs up and genuinely interested in what Seth is saying/teaching/showing me. What a cool fucking dude you are, I'm sure I'll never get to meet and or ride with, you'd drop my ass something awful anyhow lol. Thanks for everything your doing here with this channel man, I appreciate your passion for bikes and sharing it with the UA-cam world.
You could take it a step further by going with a hydro-gyro and by drilling a hole in your handlebars and stem so the front brake is completely internal. Nice video though!
I would love to know how that Bluetooth shifter works if your phone dies. I'm guessing not very well, but I'm guessing by not dealing with radio frequency they eliminate things like garage door openers and baby monitors shifting your bike 😂
Oh, that makes me feel a lot more comfortable. Do you know how the pack charges? I can't imagine a servo takes a lot of power. I know the wireless dropper plugs in via USB.
Hmmm. Does it really work that good? I read about a rider on our forum that was very disappointed with its functionality and the Cust support of the product!
This is very helpful, though I might not be able to add these wireless items to my bike right now it's something to look into in the future. I'm missing my radius bone in both arms (Thrombocytopenia absent radius) and my thumbs don't reach very well so I'm always looking for modifications. When I purchased my MTB, I had a bike shop put on shifters that are integrated into my brakes so all I have to do is push down on the brake lever and pull up on a little lever hidden between my grip and brake. Watching your videos has helped me to get on the trails more, I recently documented a 30 mile ride on the Northern Rail trail near Highland park in NH and this weekend I plan to document a ride at the Franklin Falls dam (single track, NH). I really have enjoyed watching your videos and have learned a lot! Thanks for putting all this content out there and looking forward to watching more hacks!
I got the Magura Vyron a couple of months ago and it’s been great. I bought it because my bike doesn’t have internal routing and this seemed like a cool unique fix. So far I’ve only charged it once and I would almost prefer it to a normal internally routed dropper. Nice work Magura!

yeah duuude, it's crack a moni oclock!!
I for one will continue to run cables so I have an excuse not to learn barspins. Phillip does not enjoy taking hands off handlebars.
way scarier than the backflip
110% Agreed. If you ever want to get me a letter in a game of B.I.K.E., just bust out a barspin!
shame i bet you would have super stylish tuck no handers!!
I think Sam Pilgrim has on his E-bike more cabels and can do them too - Bad excuse 😂

I agree! It WOULD be really interesting to see No Front Brakes run the archer. This build is looking pretty awesome!
I think it will be a benefit for him for sure. I don't know if they got left handed shifter mount, but it's a must IMO.

The price of doing that must be through the roof. Especially if you crash and brake all that expensive shit and need to replacei it.
Doing this to the Murder Machine would be...
A killer feature
