Fix and Ride | Installing a new electronic shifter, wheels, and tires on my Sync'r hardtail

- Today we're going to do some work in the shop, and go for a little ride! Archer components sent me the new version of their D1-X wireless shifting system. The system will add electronic wireless shifting to ANY drivetrain. You could put this on a Walmart bike with a 6 speed cassette and it would work. You could then swap the cassette and use one with more gears, and you could still get it to work with the same derailleur. Today we're be using a Box 11 speed derailleur with a 9 speed cassette.
Features of the new system include better reliability, longer battery life, and improved shifter buttons. Many of the complaints I had on the last system were addressed.

Aiden War ringer 😂 I didn’t even notice that

I only just noticed that after a year and watching this video probably 10-15 times 😂 must've been really cold
Well I think that was an Easter egg cause now he’s got a kid
@William Kletzly He says: 'Thanks for riding WITH me today'.
"violent clicking noises": The official torque spec for cassettes!
Kalle Alatupa accurate too 😂
I have put on so many cassettes and I never have any issues and all I use is an impact driver. It also is able to remove the cassette without a chain whip.

I was a car enthusiast long before I was into mountain bikes (still am) and can confirm. Certain cassette noises, various exhaust notes, damb near orgasmic
I am a car guy turned MTB freak and I can attest to cassette and exhaust notes 👌

When they come out with wireless brakes get those
Jack Guin tbh wireless brakes are a terrible idea, imagine bombing down a hill and your brake dies 😬

Dude the sound is almost like from the recording boot it is realy good
Thanks! We’re using a Rode Wireless Go under the shirt, and it has been a game changer
Berm Peak Express on the topic of electronic shifting, what are your thoughts on Sram AXS??
@@maxMax-ns9pg I've tried it and it's great. There's really no fussing around with pairing or anything, and it's really clean. Buttons are nice. My only gripe is that puny 12 speed chain. People are snapping those left and right, and I'm kind of scared of it.
Berm Peak Express I can see that, I’m getting it on my XC bike in February and I’ve never snapped a chain but it’s nice to see your take on it, plus I’m loving the format of your new videos with you in the frame, keep up the great work!
Seth what is your thought which is better kenda or maxis tires.
The more relaxed talking to camera, less voice over, added humour was enjoyed. Many thanks.

I love watching your wrench video's. I feel like we are hanging out in your garage, drinking beer, talking bikes and just wrenching on our bikes.
My favorite video of Seth was actually when he converted his syncr to a single speed. I love that vid so much.
Hey love the videos keep them coming.
Just something I noticed as a tire industry veteran if all types, it's always easier to start and finish at the valve when mounting as it is in the drop center of the rim. That little bit makes a huge difference with a lot of tire products ease of installations. The indexing you mentioned is spot on 👍
I love how personal this channel is, it's like your just sitting in the shop. Glad I got to nerd out today!
i set my first tubeless tire about 2 months ago with nothing but a floor pump and holy hell my forearms were burning, but now i have a tubeless rear wheel and love the puncture protection it offers for riding to school
This wireless system is cool, but the shifter is hideous, damn.
Wonder why they don't make it more ergo similar to the AXS shifter?
@@ejhayes76 probably patent issues, Shimano and Sram are very ferocious about their stuff, that's the main reason why Uno's groupset is hydraulic instead of electronic.

This makes me appreciate my singlespeed even more. Words I never want to say or think while working on or riding my bike include battery, pair, bluetooth, servo, recharge, and app.
I have gears and I don't think about that stuff either 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I LOVE videos of you fixing stuff! This channel is a great addition to the normal one.
4:09 haha makes me glad I’m a scuba diver and have high pressure cylinders laying around along with an air chuck attachment super useful for when I use my bike to tow my scuba gear to the beach I can lower my tire pressure for offroad and quickly refill when i hit pavement or if gosh forbid I get a flat makes it way less of a headache
I’d be great to see a video that gives a full ride through of all the trails so far on Berm Peak - just raw GoPro footage would give a interesting POV
Chase Flanagan only issue is bit rate on UA-cam can make POV stuff with trees just look a blurry mess.
I think after using the D1X for the past year I would never go back. You could just buy a second set of batteries and never worry. They are L-Ion so won't die like Ni-Cad. You can also still ride if the batt goes dead and charge before the next ride.
I really don't like the look of any shifter so it doesn't bother me. Always nice to support a small company trying to make biking better!!
Seth: puts 800 psi in his dropper post
Also Seth: dropper post flies off the bike 😂

It’s great to see you mastering all the jumps and features of your trail like they have always been there, especially after watching the “learning curve” you went through during their build. But more than anything, I’m slightly jealous you can hammer that trail KNOWING for fact, no one, hikers, bikers or fisherman are around the next corner. Thank you for not assuming everyone knows all the technical aspects on bikes.
Great job everytime!!! Keep it up, sir!!!
I really hope Archer components succeeds. It's a great idea, basically you can run any derraileur on any cassette. Killing the planned obsolescence from giants like Shimano/Sram.
Honestly I’m happy you got rid of the slime and box sponsor. It seems you’re being more truthful and straightforward with the product.
Seth is so awesome when he’s not talking in his voiceover voice, it’s so cool to hear him when he’s just chill and not in UA-cam mode
But he’s still awesome anyway!
How much is the wireless system
I love how Seth is always a nice positive person no matter what.Have a good day:)
the maximum pressure is 218 psi, so with all dropper posts you should put 800 psi
l personally love the raw content that you have on this Chanel.
Seth: “I could do bar spins and stuff”
Also Seth: Slams into wall
(Sub to my UA-cam)
Top tip for floor pump tubeless setup: make sure that the valve is in the upper position, press on the tire right over the valve and pump normal. 80% of the air loss is at the entrance. I'm using this method for several years now, flawless! (because i'm far by being native in english, additional explanation: just grab the tire and the rim at the valve and hold it until you get pressure, then pump normally, works with floor pumps). Cheers!

theyre lighter and thats about it, the AXS system can also calibrate for a bent hanger.
@@shadow1fun777 yeah thats pretty nice but im pretty sure the tool for trueing your derailer hanger isn't that expensive. Its just a rod/lever with a screw in it.
@@shadow1fun777 i saw some other videos and yeah its easier for the aversge consumer. But im a bike mech, so setting up my gears to be 100% great isnt that hard. But for most people it is.
@@insanebmxthomas the calibration on the AXS is so it's easier to finish a ride after a wreck, and I work at a bike shop as well so I'm not stranger to using derailleur adjustments but the AXS setup allows for single gear tuning so I can set up each gear exactly how I want it
@@shadow1fun777 yeah thats the kind of adjustment classic derailers don't have. Again, i can see this being a selling point, almost for me, even. Im in the market for a DH bike, if i end up slaying derailers ill have a look! 😄
It's like your barrel adjuster is in your phone... awesome.

almost 400k views in 4 days. Great work man. I really enjoyed seeing how easy you made putting this bike together look.
fun fact: "sram" means "im shitting" in polish :D
I like this kind of new format on the camera work, where someone else film you. It gives it a much more genuine and dynamic feel. I hope you are going to continue with that, much improvement! Keep up the great work!
2:16 - Completely pointless imo.
I line up the psi ratings on the tire with the valve stem, function over form.
Also, it usually seems to put the tire graphic on the less busy side of whatever graphic the rims has in my experience, filling out the wheel much more and making it look better imo.
Do you regularly put your tire pressure to the max of what they are rated, cause tire pressure ranges are pretty useless
I always save my cassette lockrings and the 11T sprocket that I never shift into in case the lockring gets tightened to the point where a chain wrench and socket will not get it off. The lockring has an outer serrated edge that can be groung off with an angle grinder until the serrations are off. Then the threaded portion will actually spin off by hand. The 11T sprocket may get sacrificed as well but no worries. Nice video, but I doubt I will ever be a fan of wireless components. Maybe on bike park trails...but not out where the buses don't run and the banjos play all day. LOL
