I am pleased Missoula does not have a zoo, that is, an animal concentration camp!
Scheel’s is an evangelical political corporation. As for the mall, they are dying everywhere.
Many take in rescues and give them a forever home...
While I agree that malls are dying overall, Scheel's have great stuff! Love that place!
I'll check back if I ever decide to move there. Thank you. Keep working!
Thank you! Looking forward to connecting in the future! Happy New Year!
You forgot the army of drunk/addict hobos who steal everything not nailed down
Has this been your experience? Is this all over Missoula or just in a specific area? This hasn't been my experience so I'm curious
I very much appreciate your thoughtful, honest, and transparent insights in this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Hamilton is not a "suburb" of Missoula: it's a separate town altogether. Other than that, it's all true. Please for the love of god don't move here.
Thanks for your comment!
For the love of god, tell me why I should not move to Missoula, when I am getting the feeling to move to this mountain forested paradise it seems to be?

Hello I was thinking of enrolling to college to do my masters degree.
And I have two small children wow like that sucks 😮
@@kimberlycharbonier3304 These are the negatives...there are a million positives! Missoula is a wonderful place for young kids; so many things to do!
Yes but smoke season it’s a strong negative for me and specially the waiting period to visit health providers. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. Kids get sick all the time and my children’s health it’s priority.
you should! What field are you in?
Very good comments. I lived in Missoula for a number of years from the 70s to the 90s. When I first moved there, teepee burners would make the air quality very bad every winter, especially in December since for some reason the air is stagnant at that time. In late January it would get stormier and blow the smoke out. We didn't have so much of a problem with fire as they seem to have now, although the fire up Pattee Canyon (1800 acres) happened while I was there. The medical situation seems to have changed too. When I was there, Missoula was such a center for medical professionals that the service was far more and better than you would expect for a city that size. It's a much bigger place now, though and looks like the medical establishment isn't keeping up. I was in Missoula this past summer visiting friends and I couldn't believe it. Reserve St. is now wall-to-wall commercial. I wonder what the population is now? Missoula was a very fun place to be in the 70s, when I went to college there. I suppose it's much more businesslike and impersonal now. But still a nice place.
Thanks for sharing this! Missoula has about 75K people and growing
" teepee burners?" Really dude ?
Yeah dude. That’s what they are called. Seems insane to burn a resource but smaller sawmills often did that. I saw a LOT of them in redwood country back in the 70s. Don’t know the situation now. As for Reserve Street: ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Unreal traffic jams any time I’ve gone to “Zoo” town. Reminds me of SoCal traffic. Left SoCal over 50 years ago and never looked back. Missoula grew like mad in the 90s onward from what I can tell and the city/county planners were caught completely unaware of the tidal wave that was coming. Seeing the same here in Helena where I reside now.
You didn’t mention the cost of housing in Missoula😢. Cheaper for one of my family to buy a home in Polson and then commute daily to U of M than to try and rent anything near town. Buy a home for young Zoomers? Ain’t gonna happen in Missoula, or most of Montana for that matter.
@@srwarner3346 They're these tall incinerators, about 20-30 ft. high that look like teepees. They burned sawdust and wood waste in them. Made midwinter very smoky. I think they outlawed them in the 80s.
@@buzzyhardwood2949 Whoa, commuting from Polson? Wow.
I work for the Post Office and was offered a shift in Missoula several years ago. Turned it down for family reasons. Now I realize we couldn't have afforded a house there anyway. Bought a house here in the Midwest for $85k if you can believe that. The equivalent house in MSO would've been over $400k then, more now.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
You are right I used to live in missoula Montana for 4 years. . .it was hard to adjust to the lifestyle there cus I'm a city girl.
So I moved back to NC back to my family.
What was your biggest challenge? I miss the diversity of food in a major city - for me, that's DC where I grew up...you could find authentic anything
Thank you so much for this video and your insights!!
Thanks for watching!
Rape is not prosecuted. Especially if committed by their beloved Grizz football players. And the state doesn't give a shit about the native women being kidnapped and murdered.
Thanks for your comment!
It's amazing what happened in parts of this country once you mentioned you're from CA. I was nearly attacked once on the way from the airport to the car rental when another passenger knew I was from California. The hostility is real, simple blind hatred. Across this country, so much misinformation about California made people forget their sense of decency. We work hard, care about our home, family, community, and country just as anyone else. Thank you for your video. I saw two black bears strolling into town when I visited Missoula once, also nearly got robbed by a drug addict, while his friend urged me to run.
Locals can be brutal haha they troll this YT channel
Anyone who watches this video and still doesn't understand why we don't like Californicators really needs to look in the mirror.
Thanks for your comment!
I’m from California and do not care what you think about me.
Thanks for your comment!
I can imagine what you think about people from Massachusetts.
I can sort of imagine why they might not be keen on incomers. Especially from urban states. It’s no secret that it’s isolated and the weather sucks. And, oh yes: Beef! It’s what’s for dinner- like it or not! So they probably figure anyone who willingly trades NYC or DC or anyplace in Florida for that is probably on the lam from something.
I’m from London uk and live in Canada
I adored Missoula and I’m glad people like this person are leaving
Except I’m not leaving. Love it here! Check out my other videos and you’ll see
I lived there from ages 8 to 26. Went to college there. Went to visit my sister there last summer, and was told to “go back to Oregon where I belong,” while I was filling my car with gas. Oregon plates aren’t received well there, either.
That’s so frustrating! Unfortunately I’m not surprised. Some people are just so rude
I have lived in her for over 30 years and this is a very accurate review. I would add the lack of sunshine. Being a local I didn't realize this is a problem for most people. But a recent transplant keeps me informed about how many days it has been since Missoula had a sunny day. In the winter, you will be lucky to have one sunny day a week. Also consider the poor job market, high cost of living, high housing costs, high income taxes, high property taxes, lack of private school options, and very liberal public schools.
I forgot to add that casinos are everywhere and so are cannabis pot shops. I have heard some people moving in applauded this and others wish they would go away.
Not a fan of casinos either!
@@robinbracken5431I can’t stand the smell of cannabis smoke as a non user. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I could use the stuff, but the stuff is just too potent and veers me in uncontrollable directions & then I want to gorge and veg.
I'm with you! Gives me a big headache
@@robinbracken5431 Yeah, last few years I lived there, in the 90s, casinos were taking over the available commercial space,. The problem is, there's practically no other business that can compete with casinos for revenue per square foot of floor space. So if you're a businessperson, or the owner of commercial space, what are you going to do?
l lived in Missoula for years. Reality is its the home of college liberals, hard drugs, and homeless. Add the ridiculous property taxes in Missoula county and it pretty much sucks. lts scenic in the surrounding areas though. Fire season smoke can definitely be horrible.
I know some folks in Max! When you're ready to move back, let me know. Happy to help!
It is their business, because huge influx into their area RAISES THE PRICES of EVERYTHING therefore making Locals POORER, WHICH IS A BIG DEAL. I’m not from there, but I have empathy. Sympathy for all movers and locals. But that’s life. Someone’s Ox will always be gored.
Thanks for your comment!
Honestly, after watching all of the video, I think I would love it there.
Great! We’d love to have you. Let me know if I can help you find the perfect home 🏡
The entire east coast? Wow😂
The best way to get somebody from almost anywhere on the east coast (especially the Mid Atlantic region) to come and joyfully be a thorn in your side is to say they are not welcome.
Thanks for your comment!
Loud trucks? The mall? C'mon. The real reason not to move to Missoula is the 1,000 ft 1 bed, 1 bath ramshackle houses that sell for $475,000. Wish I was exaggerating.
I live in a Seattle suburb…same problem with doctors. Took me 6 months
oh wow! The wait is LONG, but we do love the providers we have
Good morning- I was led here by a news article on "urban camping" there, because of high rent. Wow. There?? How bad is that situation? We are looking to relocate.... just scouting some places.
Check out my other videos about all the positives. No place is perfect. Would love to help you find the right home in or around Missoula. Reach out!
I’m shocked as a Realtor you are posting this video.
I’ve lived and visited many of the states in the Rocky Mountain corridor and the SW and I made assumptions about Montana based on these states and I was wrong. My brother moved there after retiring from military (Navy Seal). Note: many of those extreme military type retire there. The Hunting, skiing, fishing, isolation, wilderness, etc. and (in the past) low land and housing cost are an attraction to that population. We’d visit him often and even bought some property around Seeley Lake. But we found that visiting and living are two entirely different things.
Despite the state having a Spanish name Montana = Mountains, unlike NM, CO, AZ diversity is non- existent.
The summer, when we visited…gorgeous, but when we visited late September, found that summer went directly into Winter…no long lovely fall days like in Santa Fe.
Luckily my brother married a local Missoulan and has military buddies. He loves it there. I would have a hard time making friends.
Another factor, not mentioned, is traveling to Missoula. From ABQ, I can get to CA, AZ, and even WA within a couple of hours, direct and cheap . Flying and driving is always a challenge to Montana.
People are lovely. Love my sister in law, but think twice about moving there and the type of person that you are. If you are considering moving to Alaska, try Missoula first. If it bothers you don’t even think about our 50th state. Montana is a good halfway mark experience.
Thanks for your comment! Totally agree that traveling out of the Missoula airport can be a pain...since it's such a small airport, the destination list is short. There's always a connecting flight...usually Salt Lake or Minneapolis to go back to DC for me to visit family. Luckily they are short flights; usually under 2 hours.
And Missoula is a good halfway house from elsewhere to Montana.
It's difficult to fly or drive to get to Missoula, MT??? Last I checked, we are living in the 21st century.
And...FYI, there's WAY MORE pot smokin' tree huggin' Libs in Missoula than there are retired military.
What do you mean?
I don't think it's hard to drive or fly in and out of Missoula
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only Zoo in Montana is in Billings. I went to it a couple times growing up.
Yep, it's called "ZooMontana"
Lived here my whole life, goal is to move out of the area eventually
Reach out, I'd love to help you through the selling process 🏡
Tell me about 147 w. Main St Missoula Montana apartments
Can you do a video on the pros? My daughter lives there and wants us to move there.
Absolutely! Check out the other videos on my channel…they’re all positive 😀🏔️ Reach out if you’re moving, I’d love to help you find the perfect home
why dont you just ask your daughter.
I’ll gladly do another video on just the pros
Missoula is great if you look at the glass half full lady !! 😂🤓🎈 . I'm from the South West ⬅️.
You’re right!
🤣Like Floridians, Californians and Texans who have lived there for decades aren't sick of everyone and their brothers moving to our states.
They've driven up housing, insurance prices(etc) in our states. Clogged up our roads with bad drivers and more.
But HUGE empty Montana(4th largest US state) has a problem if anyone moves there....poor babies, lol. Deal with it, we have had to....time to share the fun. 🙃😉😆(I live in Florida and it's the 22nd largest state, but the 3rd most populated. While Montana is the 4th largest state but only the 43rd most populated)
That's how the world works - people move from place to place
@@LIVINGINMISSOULAMT Yup, this is true, lol.
Thanks for your comment!
There is the University of Montana..like my self, was a temporary move. Would Montanans want illegals in your state or Americans?
Thanks for your comment!
Talk to me I lived there for 23 year
I think about retirement , 63 good health
Just about EVERY Montanan: “ WAAAAHHH WAAAAAHHH…. They’re not from Montana! WAAAAHHH Thet are rich out of staters!!! “
I moved to Bozeman from Maui, When locals ask I tell them I moved from Hawaii. They find this perfectly acceptable and cool.
As soon as I tell them I’m originally from SoCal they start acting differently, LMAO so lame.
Ironically, I’m not a “rich out of stater” I work and pay rent ( Very high rent ) most of the Montanans I meet are land owners/ ranch owners/ Business men that have way more money than me.
If you are a decent normal person the locals will accept you, Their bark is worst than their bark. They just fear change.
Also I just moved to ZOOTOWN! lol
The main problem here is that this lady is expecting unrealistic expectations from Missoula and Montana. She wants and expects things that a big city has. She should go to a big city. Missoula and Montana will be a lot better off without her complaining attitude.
She would like to let you know that she loves it here, thank you. She also wants you to know that no place is perfect. People deserve to know some negatives before they decide to move her. She thanks you for your view and comment! She hopes you have great day!
Lived in MT my first 35 years, most in Missoula, moved to ND for grad school, I get harrassed on occasion when I come visit. Had somebody harrass me for the way I parked. Lol. (I have ND plates). They got even more mad when I told them I learned to drive in Missoula. It was annoying, but slightly entertaining.
Oh wow! That’s insane. I’ve been to Minot maaaaaany times
If you move there imagining it was built by Walt Disney you're in for a surprise. It's not the mall its Montana.
The beautiful mountains beats Disney for me!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the bears🤔. I’m visiting my family in missoula (and I’m from Germany) and while doing my research about missoula, i discovered that there are in fact bears there. As a hiking enthusiast, this concerns me, have you encountered any bears?
Thanks for your comment! I do mention bears towards the end of the video 😁 There are spottings of bears in the area a few times a week. Very possible to run into one while hiking. Be safe!
If you go out into the woods in Montana, bear mace is recommended and in some places it is required. It's like 30 dollars a can and is very easy to use. Bear attacks are rare and are really only an issue if you are camping overnight.
Great idea to have! Thanks @@john-nl8iu
Mountain lions were a problem north of Missoula years ago, they are more dangerous than bears in general.
Bears will usually run directly away from you if they spot you. If they don't, it's a bad sign😆 They can be attracted by food, so be careful there.
Hamilton is not a suburb of Missoula. It might as well be a different state than Missoula. It's not even a part of the metropolitan area. Come to East Missoula, Lolo, or Wye and try to say the same thing. Oh wait, you couldn't.
You’re right, I misspoke. Thanks for catching that!
These are normal Montana things. This is a reason why as a Montanan, I tell people that it is gorgeous but it is like a marriage. You can't just have the great things and not expect the others. Anywhere you go in Montana, if you aren't from there you are hated and this video and peoples expectations are a main problem. Missoula sucks, but its like the black sheep of Montana. We will still stand up for it but we don't like it either. The main reason everyone in Montana hates people from Missoula is because it is hippy central. The whole entire state is red except for missoula and billings. Even Bozeman is getting blue too. Being overcrowded didn't occur until everyone decided it was hip to move here and now its always crowded.
There are pros and cons everywhere, that's for sure
Montana has turned into a California hell hole , locals are sick of the transplants
We love Montana the way it is! Let's not change it 💕
Wonder how the black feet and crow people feel about the "transplants"
Thanks for your comment!
Obviously you're not from Idaho we have everything you mentioned and then some. We are Idaho natives who are happily in the process of fleeing Idaho for the Missoula area.
The adjustment will be easier for you then! That's great!
or maine, its the most evil behind the times rotten place on earth
Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for your comment!
94% White? Im def moving there!! Sounds like paradise to me!
Thanks for your comment!
If you moved here because malls, pro sports teams, zoos, children's museums, and diversity are important to you then you clearly didn't do your homework.
For sure! I'm doing the research so other don't have to
First thing I like to do when I visit Montana is loudly proclaim that I'm from California and will be moving to Montana together with my hippie commune 😁 They love that.
Honest question - how has the reaction been from the locals? I'm welcoming to all, but die hard Montanans aren't always so welcoming
@@LIVINGINMISSOULAMT That was my attempt at humor. Actually my sister married a Canadian and they bought a home near Kalispell. Then my mom moved from California to buy one a few doors down so she could help with the grandkids.
For the years she was there I think they all felt welcome and never had any problems. Then again, my mom is very nice and gets along with everyone. We lived 20 years in Alaska before spending 20 years in California, so Montana was no big deal for our family.
That's awesome to hear! We usually encounter unwelcoming locals on online platforms.

What, there are no Mexicans or black people in Montana?
Thanks for your comment!
@@LIVINGINMISSOULAMT - I was kidding when I asked that.
I know black people hate the cold weather.
But those Mexicans from Mexico will go to the Moon to look for work!

Funny, no zoo yet the “country people” affectionately (or not) call it “Zoo town”.
Good point! 😂😂
It's called zootown because everyone here is a bunch of alcoholic wild animals. You really that dumb to think that people call it zootown because we think there's a zoo? Just giving us more reason to not like transplants you guys don't even know what the f*** your talking about
The Zoo are the college students and some of the locals 😄 Been there, been that
Speak along with me: "Mis-zoo-la". Get it?
lol
Missoula and Montana in general is very rural, if you’re expecting conveniences that larger cities have, then yes- do not move here.
Most of the problem that locals have with newbies is them trying to change the surroundings and ways to suit them personally.
Imagine the ugly American scenario and you may understand it.
I did live in Missoula for a short time and most people I met were from out of state but were nice people, with the exception of the occasional goober.
That last comment about noisy trucks must mean you’re on Reserve Street a lot making calls😂😂😂
Totally agree! I just made a video about this (Living in Montana)...I harp on this point exactly - DON"T come here to change Montana; locals love it the way it is!
Went there for school, worst time of my life, nothing to do, terrible food, dangerous drivers, moldy houses, lack of quality anything, terrible winters and terribly hot and smokey summers. don't do it.
Sorry you had such a negative experience!
Sorry your college experience was so bad. Mine was terrific. I loved every minute of it. I suppose it has a lot to do with expectations. Many people don't care for life in Montana, it's an individual thing.
no zoo?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO what will i do

how many things can you say about a city?

There's a ton to say! Missoula is awesome and I'm excited to share about every-single-detail 🏔
Do you want to see a much worse Montana mall? Try Holiday Village in Great Falls. It's a pathetic joke.

Thanks for your comment! I have 1 negative video out of 28...I love Missoula it's VERY obvious in my other videos. No place is perfect and that's what I'm highlighting here.
My family and I moved from Texas to Missoula last year and we like it here..but we noticed that people here stare too much..they pronounce bag like beg..they drive too slow..fast food is not fast..housing is expensive..we sold our big house in Texas to move here and our house is small here and expensive..i miss mexican food lol. We moved away from Texas because it's too populated, which has brought too much crime..our house was being cased before we moved to Missoula..we hated the heat in Texas and we love the seasons here in Missoula. I love running and hiking and the wildlife here!
So glad that you're liking it so far! You're SO right...fast food is NOT fast 😂😂 I've heard good things about El Cazador; haven't tried it though.
OH man, I would MISS Mexican food soooo badly! Gotta make it yourself then. My spouse makes the BEST chicken quesadillas I've ever tasted. They are an Americanized version, but very delicious!
There are a few Mexican restaurants here in Missoula. Now that I think about, I haven't been to any...I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend 😂
Thumbs up. Smoke, Haters, short summers, long waits for medical & dental. Sounds like a wonderful place! Not!
Missoula is amazing, but these are the negatives. No place is perfect
Missoula doesn’t suck😢😢
I completely agree! Just like anywhere, there are cons to every place.
What about the shi*** traffic?
I talk about that more in this video - ua-cam.com/video/gKRJA19F6e4/v-deo.html
you talk so slow and quiet that it's painful to watch this video. I moved here from California 5 years ago and I always tell people the truth about it and I've never had any issues. mostly people have been extremely helpful and have always helped out especially with winter safety or during the cold snaps of a week of negative temps. just my experience!

It’s a typical judgy comment from a California transplant. Exactly why us “locals” are so fed up with out of staters.

I wish you had come out with this video before Missoula was destroyed...It used to be a fantastic place. I blame the movie "A River Runs Through It" for making Missoula unlivable.
It's pretty fantastic now too!
As long as the crime rate is low, the other things are feasible

Nice place to stop and get gas on the way through. I lived in Montana, all my life and Missoula is a strange beast. They were always the left side of the political spectrum. I hear you can get your Phd. in creative basketweaving at the U of M...the home of the elite class...It's Montana, it can snow 12 months of the year. It's Montana, you have to be hardy....Wait, it hasn't turned -40 degrees below zero for 30 days straight. It's just not for everyone that moves here. LoL
Phd in basketweaving?! I gotta look into that 😂 Missoula is a strange beast - truth! It's not for everyone, but I love it. What made you leave Montana?
That's just a tongue and cheek on a useless degree. I'm still here in the eastern part. I traveled the world and saw Montana for what it was. I don't mind people moving here, but move here to embrace the way we live, let's not change it to like the place that you moved from and screw it up. Don't bring your problems with you, move here to make it a positive chane to your life. We have it all. Let's keep that secret....@@LIVINGINMISSOULAMT
Amen to that!
Missoula is Great! You people need to stay on your medication! This "person" needs a personality makeover !
Can you give me some Tylenol? this comment is giving me a headache!
Hater
Thanks for your comment! I have 1 negative video out of 28...I love Missoula it's VERY obvious in my other videos. No place is perfect and that's what I'm highlighting here.
@@LIVINGINMISSOULAMTthat may be the case but the video you posted is literally “don’t move to Missoula” not “cons of living in Missoula” you’re just looking for clickbait.
Annoying
Agreed!
Don't worry... Too fucking cold. Why would anybody move to Montana?!?
There's plenty of reasons! Check out some of my other videos :)
I go through and hang out in Missoula for a few days when im riding freight trains. Always enjoyed Missoula.
Same! Missoula is awesome...this video is just the negatives. No place is perfect.
4 minutes into this video and I don’t like you already. I can feel your bad vibes and negativity through the phone screen and I’m not even from Montana.🙄
