How to Get FPV Drones Through Airport Security

  • Different airlines and countries may have different rules for drones and LiPo batteries. If you're not sure just Google your airline and check their regulations for drones.
    In this video I'm discussing FPV Drones (without GPS) going from the UK to Ibiza. I have also used the same rules to travel to other countries using various airlines, and I have always had a simple and positive experience.
    When I refer to the suitcase or 'main suitcase' in this video, I mean the baggage that you check in, which travels in the hold

    "Take a plane apart from the inside" is not an attack vector I thought anyone was planning for but now we know.

    Nice video. Good to see something more specific to our hobby.
    Personally I would not put the quads into checked luggage, as there is a much higher chance of them being stolen or lost. Also regarding taking lipos out of the bag, I did this at Heathrow on a recent trip and it caused a major issue. It seemed to make them be more alert of what they were and this caused me to almost lose them on the way to an important race, I spent 20 minutes arguing with about 5 staff and showing all relevant documentation, where as on the way back from a country that was notorious for binning lipos at security I left them in my bag and had zero issues. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

      JWREN FPV that’s really interesting. It seems like everyone has had different experiences depending on which airport they were at and who happened to be working that day. I know what you mean about the theft risk or even lost luggage. Hopefully holiday insurance would cover it

    Great to see something like this which is specific to our hobby. I put of travelling to Bali this year with my freestyle and cinematic drones because I was unsure what would happen at the Airport. Every time I spoke to the airline they told me a different tale so just didn’t risk it .
    Thanks , hope you had a great holiday😎

      Gassy Fpv thanks mate, I did! The worst that’s happened to me is I got a prop tool confiscated last year before I knew the no tools in hand luggage rule. I say go for it next time! I’d love to see some cinematic Bali shots 🤩

    I'm traveling next week from philly to okc one layover
    I used to traval fpv with some things checked some not. I've even taken my tool box carry on which I use for automotive electronics as well . I've had it for so long before fpv I even have a stray bullet or two in there. I've Never had a problem. I've heard the codes have changed since last year and am a little worried . Thanks for info.

      Anthony Porreca FPVRC hope it helps. This is based on the rules from UK to Ibiza, so they may be less strict from the US. Happy travels 🙂

    Should i risk it with a company that says in the guidelines "no drones nor hoverboards allowed on board"? I was thinking about taking my eletronics apart from the frame kust to show that its not a harm for the plane

    • @MagicFPV
      @MagicFPV  3 роки тому

      I think onboard means in the cabin (hand luggage), whereas you might be able to have them in the hold (suitcases). Maybe check with the airline and ask why... it's usually due to the fire risk of batteries.

    • @MagicFPV

      Yes and from what I understand just pack the Mavic into the hold baggage (checked suitcase)

    I am confused with the gps thing. So my quad that has a GPS module, needs to go in the hand luggage?

    • @MagicFPV
      @MagicFPV  4 роки тому

      It's weird isn't it! They always mention it at East Midlands Airport but it could vary depending where you're flying from. From what they told me- it's because if it has gps they can disable it, if not they have no control so it's forbidden in hand luggage.

    • @Paul-Waldin
