    This was exactly what I needed to see..thank you! Lately, I've been binging on lots of different sewing channels learning about digital patterns but you're the only one to literally "hold our hands" taking the mystery away about how to order them AND then tape it together. The tip about taking the borders away ..so the pattern print edges can butt up against each other..I had no idea that was a feature on a printer. You're a gifted teacher, Casey. I know it must take hours & hours of filming, editting and planning to make one single show...so from my little sewing corner of the world...thank you!

      Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I can get a little in the weeds about the details sometimes :) But I hope it makes for good, educational videos! I also know the feeling of being confused and frustrated when trying to learn something new, so I always have that in mind. And yes, I often have HOURS of footage haha! Thank you so much for watching!

    Thank you for this! I've done both at home and AO - mostly at home - and thought I knew all I needed to BUT! that 'portrait' printing tip is GOLD! I'm wondering if it works for most pdf pattern company patterns, or is that specific to yours? Regardless, what a great tip!!! PS, currently wearing my comfi pants :)

      I feel like there was another pattern I noticed it on (maybe closetcore?) But can't remember if I tried it on others before I started designing my own. I think i discovered it by accident and it has saved me so much time! Ah so glad you are wearing comfi pants! 🎉🎉😀

    I'm a new sewer (sewist?) and I recently discovered your channel. I'm very impressed with your communication skills. Your video and sound quality are excellent and seem very polished. The few things I've seen you create so far look excellent. I'm still binge watching your older videos to get caught up. Lately I've also started searching for fabric in thrift stores, because retail prices are pretty crazy, so I'd like to see more videos about how to know what is good quality fabric and a good deal. Obviously there are not always labels on thrift store "stuff" so one has to rely on touch and feel and the look etc.

    I saw on your printing screen that it mentioned a paper size of 8.5x11 inches. That is a USA sized sheet of paper. In Europe we use A4, which is a slightly different size. Will these patterns be printed correctly on a4 or will it screw up the pattern?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the patterns are formatted for both A4 and letter size paper in the same print-at-home file. The printing process is the same, make sure to print at 100% /actual size/no scaling.

    I’ve been sewing for nearly 50 years (ouch) and just bought my first online pattern-the button-up blouse. This tutorial was instrumental in that happening. It’s all printed and cut out. Now to fabric shop!! I used to make button downs as they were called in the 80’s out of Oxford cloth. I had them in every color. I’m excited to find some lighter weight cotton to try this again. So glad I stumbled on this channel!!

    I haven’t sewn since tissue paper patterns were the only option. Trying to start again. How do you pin through regular paper? That seems like such a hassle/ challenge. I was always taught to not use sewing scissors to cut paper as it dulls them quickly…so I’m confused. I saw the already cut out pieces you laid on the fabric, so you just cut as close as possible to the edge? That seems so much more difficult than when we used the tissue paper and could just cut on the lines. I’v seen some people use metal weights and a rotary cutter but how do you mark darts and other ‘line up’ marks? Do you have a video showing cutting out?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  Рік тому +1

      The paper patterns work the same as tissue, I just don't pin them to the fabric (I use weights or random objects from around my sewing room to hold them down). I also use a rotary cutter on a cutting mat to cut the fabric, which I prefer over scissors since i can cut without shifting the fabric around too much and it's quicker for me...then I'll go back in and clip notches with scissors and mark other pattern info if needed with chalk. I suggest doing it the way that feels best for you! Everyone is a little different. :)

    What if you want more then one size and you want each one separately do you have to pay for them separately also

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  4 місяці тому

      All of the sizes come with the pattern, so you only need to purchase once. You'll just have to print it again (either at home or with a copyshop) if you want a separate size for another project. The file can be printed as many times as you like.

    Can you print the size you want only buying your patterns or is that option always available when you purchase digital?

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  11 місяців тому +1

      Many designers that offer digital sewing patterns have this option (there might be some that don't, but it is pretty standard practice to offer the size layers that can be turned on and off, from what I understand).

      Hi Barbara, the files should open automatically in Adobe Reader if you have the program installed on your computer (if not, you can download the program for free here: get.adobe.com/reader/). Just double-click the files to open them, and you should be all set :)

    Hello I just saw this. If I put adobe reader on my iPad is it because of that reader that you can just print out your size? Or is it only on your website or patterns that this is possible? I trace all my patterns and leave the tissue whole. I have pieced a pdf pattern on letter sized paper, but I am really drawn to the idea of having the pdf in all sizes but with the ability to print out only your size!!! This saves on tracing time and cost of tracing paper too

    I have been considering buying PDF patterns so this video was very timely. Just wondering are the PDFs downloaded to my computer so they can be saved or do I need to print off another size when I need it……my weight varies due to my health and medications. How long do I have access to any patterns I purchase xx

    • @PatternScout

      A link to download the PDFs are sent to your email and then you download them to your computer. You have lifetime access to them after purchase. And if you ever need the download links refreshed or lose the email, I can resend it no problem. :)

    What if you need 2-3 sizes on one garment? Ex.: larger bust and waist and smaller hip. Do you print 3 sizes or print one and alter pattern before cutting out. I always have to lengthen the back waist length, sleeve length and enlarge for a tummy.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  2 роки тому

      Yes, you'd just print all three sizes and then grade/make adjustments after the pattern is printed and assembled. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for all your helpful advice regarding pdf patterns! This has been so helpful for me as always when I go to print a pattern from other sites it always seem to leave me confused regarding getting the right size paper for printing. Now with seeing this video I feel I am more confident in regard to printing and also did not know about getting printing with the AO size that was available here in Australia this is what I am so interested in. I have printed the pdf patterns in the past before but no where that I could see how to print only the one size and so found the reams of A4 to be printed then joined together has always seem to take ages to put together. Best info I have watched and also love your bloopers.

      I hear ya! The taping is the most frustrating part. I usually cut right into my pattern--I used to trace but started getting impatient (but if it is a more complex pattern I'll trace to be safe!). :)

    Ok - the portrait mode for the printing is SO GOOD!! I just tried it yesterday on a True Bias pattern and loved it! I did a test of printing just the 4 pages in the top left of the layout (in my case it was 1-2 & 7-8) and it was perfect -- and imho, much more accurate, as there is less user involvement in the process ;) THANK YOU!!
