George South ran one of the best old school style wrestling schools there was. Taught you everything about wrestling EXCEPT, the flippy shit, 150 superkicks, over acting crap you see today. This guy should be on the Mount Rushmore for Trainers. Ric Flair always wanted to wrestle George on t.v. jobber matches because they were action packed.

      From Wikipedia:
On June 1, 1985 he received his first ever match (non-title) with then NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. He would become Ric Flair's favorite journeyman to wrestle as Flair considered him a great worker.

Athletes compete in a competitive sport. These are stuntmen acting out a show with a predetermined outcome. Anyone can be champion if the script writers write it that way. Not the same with a real sport.

When I was growing up in the 80s we knew the story lines were fake and that was all. We knew the guys probably didn't actually hate each other or weren't trying kill each other, but even as kids we knew they really were beating the hell out of each other. Ric Flair wearing a mask of blood comes to mind. And the Dr. whacking John Stossel's fancy ass to the floor wasn't fake either 😁

    • @chrisgullett4332

Most people do not realize it, but in the 20s all through the 70s wrestling promoters were arrested and hassled by police, because they claimed the fights were fixed. So they literally thought it was real and that promoters were trying to fix it. So looking back in the 80s you'd think that everybody would know it was all a work, but in the 80s it was probably worse than the 20s through the 70s, because there were hundreds of investigative reporters trying to prove wrestling was fake. They had guys like Meltzer and some jobbers going on all of the news show and talk shows to expose the business. That is what got Stossel involved, because all the investigative reporters were on a mission to prove wrestling was not real. So we can look back and laugh at them for even questioning if wrestling was real, but apparently it was hard for lots of people to figure it out. Stossel to his credit did get to the bottom of it, because he actually went out and found Eddy Mansfield, who was willing to go on TV and tell the secrets and say wrestling was fake. Eddy Mansfiled is still hated by the industry till this day. He was basically blackballed for exposing wrestling. Stossel may have gotten slapped, but he did in fact get the first wrestler on nation TV to admit it was fake.

Before "The Slap", 20/20 aired a John Stossel training segment with Eddie Mansfield and was also shown how to blade. @@coyotesmile8972 In a sense, all the wrestling promoters back then put wrestlers up to stuff for the sake of kayfabe. This also included demanding that wrestlers accept and win legit street and bar fights. Supposedly Bob Backlund once got sucker punched and knocked down in a bar, and then walked out. But his buddy told him that his career might get hurt if word got out that he didn't fight back. So he went in the bar and beat the guy up.

With all due respect BC I have been a life long wrestling fan but when these wresleters say the pain is not fake is a goal post moving tactic. It's not In question wether or not they work hard & sacrifice family life (which really is their choice). The question is not if they don't feel real pain. The accusation is that pro wrestling is a pre determined outcome so In terms of the art form mimicking a fight it can be called fake. Ppl don't have to be A-holes about it BC they want to crap on wrestling but it is not a real sport nor fight.

John Stossel did a report about wrestling being fake. He asked D. David Schultz who proceeded to slap the sides of his head.
