I am going to add the same comments here I made on the 150mm review you did in case anyone misses it. The 150mm, 45mm and 15mm lens all have both sets of gears in the same place...so if you are using a focus motor and have to change lenses you don't have to change the focus motor position. Also the lens foot can be positions on the top and the bottom of the lens. Another great review Scott, thanks!
One thing you didn't have an opportunity to talk about is the bokeh these lenses produce. I think, especially the 45mm, produce some fantastic bokeh and lens flares. Wait until you get the 15mm. Not sure I liked the 11mm, it was a bit too much for me in terms of focal plane edge and warping. But the 15mm OMG.
Wondering what the next focal lenghts are that Irix has planned. There was mentioning of some other focal lenghts to make it kind of a small set. But without a 21-25, 28-35, and a 75-90 option these are single lenses, somewhat odd.
Great video man. One of the best ones I have seen on the IRIX line. Let me ask you, what do you think about the SLR Magic T2.1 APO Microprimes? I used a 32mm for the video on my channel called Raft Off 2023 starting at 1:13 and all throughout the rest of the video. I bought it for $649 new in Canon EF mount that I use on my Canon C70 with a .71x speedbooster. I just ordered the IRIX 30mm T1.5 EF lens which will be T1.0 with the speedbooster so excited to see what it looks like. Curious on your thoughts, thanks.
Hey Scott, love the review mate. You actually made me laugh this morning. How do you think it fairs against the SLR Magic APO MicroPrime Cine 50mm. I know the SLR is slower.
Hi Scott, great video. This is off The topic, hope thats okey 🙏 but still on RED. Regarding The SDI issues bruning The port. Can you please make a video explaining on how to go propper way to plug The SDI cable 12g, and what to do under hot swap. And Will a SDI isolator help to protect to get The SDI port fried?😮 Thank you 🙏
Great Review! There is not so many out there about the Irix Cine lenses. When you say "Rokinon", do you include the Xeen Cine lenses as well? If I understand this correctly: Rokinon has "Rokinon", "Samyang" and "Xeen" cine lens lineups. People say that the Xeen Cine lenses are pretty good. Cheers!
More referring to the Rokinon DS Cine lenses. The Xeens are twice the price of Irix and have virtually the same glass as the DS. So the build quality on the Xeen vs Irix is about the same but the price makes it a fairly simple choice.
Would you take those irix’s instead of dzo vespids? I guess vespids ae more vintage, crisp and a bit more sterile? Or just seem to separate an object from the background better? Invested in 15mms irix, because there are no wide vespids in that class, but still yet to decide what to get next! I’d like to use it with Blackmagic 6K PRO, but next planning to buy Komodo - which would would you suggest? EF now or PL?
They are both interesting lenses. I’d say the good thing about the Vespids is that they already have a full line of lenses available. Irix is making more for their lineup, they are just a little slow about it. I like EF myself but I also shoot with PL. I use EF for everything I own though.
Thanks for this handy review Scott! I definitely have my eye on this lens. Love the 45mm focal length. I'm on a Canon R5 which has an RF mount like your Komodo but is full frame. Any thoughts on adapting PL vs EF to RF? Any particular reason you went with an EF rather than PL or was it just because that's all they had available?
Hi Scott.. I just ordered this lens for my Komodo that’s arriving in a couple weeks. I wanted to know if that baseplate and rods are necessary to protect the lens? But I know you said it’s only 2 lbs. Also can you tell me what you used?
The foot comes with the lens. It isn’t critical with this lens to support it as it isn’t very heavy but it is always a good idea just to protect your mount.
Wanting to know about the deal they have? Only reason I haven’t ordered my Komodo yet is because I have RF lenses and from my understanding they don’t work yet. But may order these with my Komodo. Thoughts?
@@ScottBalkum Ok thanks, sent an invite to join the group. This may speed up my order, I only have the RF electronic lenses currently for my R5. I’ve been waiting to here about the RED update but may just order these also. Then when they do the update that will be even better.

To bad they don't have other focal lengths, like 24mm, 35mm and 85mm. Because with the current range, there is no normal focal length for super 35. Investing in cine lenses only makes sense if you can have a set that covers all angles, from wide to tele. I wanted to buy Samyang 'cine' lensen, but they are just modded still lenses, so I don't see the point. Not really photo lenses, not cine lenses either. And they are not that cheap, I would rather pay 2x times more to get something that was designed for cine, otherwise I might just as well keep using my Canon L zoom lenses, and invest my money in more of them. At least I would be getting top of the line photo lenses.

Great review dude but dang I'd love to see some shots with the thing. Cheers.
Check out the cigar footage I just posted with Raptor a few days ago.
Curious to see a head to head comparison with the DZO Vespids to get an idea of what they both look like with equal conditions.
i've had my eye on it for some time now, this review drew my over the line, they should sponsor you
very entertaining video! just purchased it with a micro four thirds mount.

not a single word about focus breathing..
some other reviewer said this have very minimal breathing, is it true?

Great review. I'm trying to decide between this Irix and the Meike 50 2.1. Is (maybe) the Meike sharper than the Irix?
I would say the Irix slightly sharper than the Meike, but Meike has other common lens focal lengths available now. A bit of a toss up
