Been a fan ALL my life and cannot escape her unique style. We met on several occasions and communicated thru the years. I relive those moments in her music...
Always though KS had one hell of a sexy sound. It's the combination of her warm yet tangy timbre and narrow vibrato. Of course, she was also a hell of a singer. Innately musical, with both jazz and the blues in her bones
It's been said of Kay Starr (Catherine Laverne Starks) that she could sing anything, any style. And those who say this say Jazz was where she shinned the best. Well, I don't know but of the 9 Starr albums I own, the only country music album among them is the finest of the whole lot. Her country style was just something to experience - a style that certainly influenced her more famous successor Patsy Cline. Patsy may have had the better voice (perhaps) but Kay certainly had the better style, in my own humble opinion.
