Written for the film "Around the World in 80 Days", this song won the Oscar for 1956. However, only an instrumental version of the tune is heard in the film. The composer was Victor Young with lyrics added by Harold Adamson. Young was a well-known figure in the movie industry, having received 21 Oscar nominations before "Around the World". Somehow, he had never won that Golden Statuette. Unfortunately, Victor Young died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage at age 56, just a few months before Oscar night. Fate can be cruel.
I can only assume Kay is singing live, if so how unfazed and relaxed is she. So much so that she can smile and flirt with the audience while singing. Superb voice, and a bubbly vibrant personality.
Vicki Eydie and the Dazzling Eat-ettes (aka Bette Midler & the Staggering Harlettes) do a great version of this on Bette's "Live at Last" album from 1977.
There is a video "Becoming Vickie" ua-cam.com/video/dVx6EqxGZ-4/v-deo.htmlsi=P8LxxIXruoUEjCtr , but unfortunately, there is very little of Around the World in the performance.

WUNDER SCHÖNEN MIEN FREUND! The one and only BRENDA LEE always a delight to see and hear, at all stages of her life, pure magic. Where ever she may appear New York, Gay Parie, or even London Town.
Standard interviewer question:: "What would you different if you had it to do over again?" Brenda's standard quip: "I'd be taller." Seriously, her height did limit her, sometimes. She had an ambition to do a Broadway musical, for instance.
I have often written on these pages that Brenda was sui generis, but there is a singer whose style does remind me of Brenda. I just never had a video for her. So tell me what you think and take the poll in the upper right corner of the video. Something different for the channel and I hope you enjoy it.
Side by Side would make for a good comparison as well. Kay can sing any style. Billie Holiday said of her "The only white woman who can sing the blues". Well then.
Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I have KS singing SBS. The first thing I notice is rhythm. IMHO, Both ladies are perfect in that regard, singing right on it. The beat itself is in their vocals. This enables them to sing in different genres and tempos. The other strong similarity is their contralto voices. They are pretty much in the same key.

The dynamic and engaging Kay Starr. What a wonderful performer! She certainly knew how to sing! One of the finest popular singers since 1945.
The world has lost another amazing voice. Rest In Peace Kay.

The most lovely of women oft times think them selves not beautiful .
Brenda felt a bit short and once said I don't know what happened.
Brenda, perfection happened.

+Mostly Brenda yes Alan Ladd was shorter and Shane was a top notch box office success .
I wish me and the horn boys knew about this back in the Eghties, 😂, we could have forced it on the "Front Lady".
Mitch Ayers and the Orch. A lot of these variety shows had some excellent players who were in big bands in the pre-rock days.
@@MostlyBrenda ; You could tell by just by the way talked and sang, Kay was going to be a dream to work with.
Thank u so much for answering my question..
This is great, wonderful video thanks for this. I have often compared Kay with Brenda. Pure genius loved your compilation video.
Thank You! I'll try to get another comparison video together this week.
I don't get the comparison. Love Kay, however.

Thanks! I'll give it a listen later. I might upload "You always hurt" because I have Kay singing live and the BL record.

what year did this show came out?? Please tell me. thank you.
The Kay Starr clip is from Perry Como on Jan 06, 1960. Is that what you want to know?
I'll tell you who sounds just like Brenda Lee: THERESA BREWER. I can't tell them apart!
