How To Put On Compression Stockings After Knee or Hip Replacement Surgery

- One of the most difficult steps after knee or hip replacement surgery is putting on compression stockings. Compression stockings are important to decrease swelling and reduce the risk of a blood clot.
This video should be pulled. This doctor is violating hip precautions. This is DANGEROUS .
Only in the case of non-anterior approach. Anterior surgical approach, for most folk have only one precaution and that is DO NOT FALL. Lately anterior approach surgery leaves one with no precautions. Yes, for some or for those with posterior approach or hybrid this could be dangerous.
What the heck? How many times did the doctor break hip precautions?
How about redoing this video and showing him getting it on without lifting his leg, which as you know, would not be possible on the operated side.
Here's a concept. Try using a disabled person to demonstrate how something made for them is supposed to work?
Right on Rich !!!!!!
@@joycemartin4889 Yes thank you Rich. Why do these companies use fit young men to demonstrate their products. I'm a 76 year old male who's been bedridden for a year and I can barely move.
If you have hip surgery you can’t bent that far , you can bent over 90 degrees
Oops....disclocated hip....
Exactly, this is NOT helpful
As a current wearer [in the UK] that does work for me, but I would add two things. 1. A bdab of talcum [baby?] powder in the plastic channel makes foot movement much easier and you do need to wiggle your foot and toes. 2. If you take a dark permanent marker and mark across the heel for the full width of the stocking, that will enable you to see from the side when the heel has reached the correct position; similarly, a mark on the centre line will help get the stocking correctly centred on the Sock-Aid. A mark about an inch short of the end hole will also help you judge when to stop. The bigger difficulty is getting them off on your own.
Thank you --the marker tip is most helpful, for marking the heel and the seams. Like old time stockings
Thank goodness for all the warnings about the doctor's ridiculous lifting of leg--dangerous after hip surgery.
@@KarenRobertson-we7kq But definitely not attractive.
You’re not able to bend at the waist like that after you’ve had a total hip replacement. I just had THR & that won’t work for me.
Depends on whether you have had anterior or posterior surgery.
Well that is just pointless. I just bought one of these and yes, I can get it on my foot and then the sock is stuck around my ankle. I am not supposed to bend to reach to pull it up so how is this helpful?
That is what happened to me.
Well that’s not good for anybody who’s had a Hip or knee replacement is it 🙈
Agreed!!!
Cheers for the Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you heard about - Patlarny Games Earning Principle (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for treating varicose Veins minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my best friend Jordan after many years got astronomical results with it.
Best video ever! Thank you doing this. I wish this was included in my instructions when I left the hospital.
Please what’s product name of the tool to purchase
It's totally useless, after hip replacement you cannot reach down. that's the whole point. In fact, that's a dangerous recommendation
Not good video as the doctor was lifting his knee up way above hip!
I just got a hip replacement so far I can use this device to put on socks I don't have compression socks d u can bd d a at the wast my surgeon does not restrict what you do, they seem to gave stop restrictions in some people now
where do find this jig? to to put on compression stocking .
There is no way you could bend as much as he did. You are not allowed to bend more than 90 degrees at the hip and they are so tight . Great concept but no way to reach to pull them up.
See above.
So how DO you put those on if you can't bend more than 90°??
Didnt work for me. I couldnt even get the sock aid to move out.
and how do you remove them ?
I use my other foot but I just had knee surgery on one leg...
@@Marie-di5gl it's very different when you have had hip repacement, no bending down at all.
That would not work for me, 3wk post TKR. I wish I had that much knee mobility.
My sock aid is flat I don't understand how yo use it
Impossible for someone who has had hip surgery.
Not if the surgery was anterior.
You should know better Dr Yun!!!! That's what peoole do when practicing before THR. After it's just tears of frustration and the damn things around your ankle!!!
Never will work like that, ask someone with a new hip to show us, never going to happen.
Right on Tom !!!!!
One cannot bend their knee......
Sure way to dislocate your hip after surgery, please don’t bend like that if you had hip replacement surgery
I had a hip replacement; I could never bend my leg like is indicated in the video. Not a good video.
not realistic agree you cannot bend at hip - this shows it to be terribly awkward to use this type of device and you would injure yourself with the method they show. do not recommend at all!!!!
It's not helpful when he bends both his knee and hip!? I can't do it like that? Be realistic!
That's impossible to do with 0 rotation pre op and post op. Try again.
😑this looks painful even just watching...bad demo. I cant.even imagine
Good tool but no good if you've got big feet
Are you kidding me? Why doesn’t the manufacturer make these easy to put on?
This product does not work at all for the people who need it. I bought one and tried to return it to Amazon but was not allowed - it tells you in very small print!!
I now have a totally different product which works well.
Please post whatever actually worked for you. One by one, they either broke or could not push the bunched up sock completely off.
It don’t work like that especially you just have hip surgery. You lifted you hips pass 90 degree 😅😅😅 crazy ain’t working
WARNING - this video is wrong, possibly even harmful. You are NOT supposed to bend your knee more than 90 degrees after hip replacement for a long time. With all due respect this video should be removed.
Useless post. That is a doctor and he is violating all accepted hip angles. He would have dislocated his hip.
Gee, that’s harder than just leaning over and pulling them on.
Be happy, really, really happy that you can bend that far, and hope that you never have to take back your words....
They r so tight it is extremely hard to put this on then when u bend ur knees they roll up behind ur knee causing itching and possibly a rash. They want u to wear this crap everyday for weeks. All this technology and this is the best we've got not to mention their expensive. Oh yes getting them off!!! Impossible. Now keep in mind u cannot bend ur body like they r doing after hip surgery that is one of the things they impress upon u
A poor and dangerous video. Read the comments below.
Thanks for the video! We owe you a beer!!
Not helpful at all!! These send a finer touch to get on correctly esp on Foot part 😢 Hip patient can not bend & pull up as shown
Not so easy on a adult with no strength
Wrong
Pure rubbish
Not that helpful, since the person post TKA or THR IS UNABLE to Bend their KNEE for awhile. Patient at first is not as flexible as this healthy young dude or therapist who is demonstrating it 😅
This is so dangerous and inappropriate. The doctor is demonstrating a way to cause a hip dislocation after hip replacement surgery. How irresponsible !
This is 0% helpful. I could also break my restrictions severely to do it on my own.
this is a joke ,i bought this because of this video YOUR FEET WILL NOT SLIDE ON PLASTIC !!!!!!!!!! what a waste
Sorry, but after hip surgery you can't bend over or lift your leg up. Not helpful.
I can’t believe that a Real MD would demonstrate such a poor technique.
That’s for healthy person with minor disability or just getting older &very stiff, NOT FOR POST OP PATIENT
BAD DEMON
Yes, it looks very easy and Dr Yun had his knee against his rib cage... oops, dislocated new hip joint, ouchie. Yes, there is a way to pull 20-30mm stockings up, all alone. Follow the directions w/ the sock aid. Now, you still can't reach them so buy two of these: "Crescent X2 Straight Long Nose Dual Material Pliers - PSX200C" they cost $22 each on zon. They do work. Now the real problem is: Getting the 20-30mm stockings OFF. There are all sorts of aids and one by one, when I tried them they either broke or could not push the bunched up stocking that is now, just over the heel. I have yet to find a way to actually get them off w/ the 90 degree restriction. So, the only way I can see is put them on alone and find someone to pull them off. Note: 10-20 mm stocking DO work with the assistive tools, there is a huge difference between 10-20 and 20-30mm stockings. Or, check out this: www.drjacobhaynes.com/blog/compression-stockings-may-not-be-needed-after-surgeries-study-finds-21613.html Two quality studies showed a reduction in clot formation of less than 1/2 percent, which is non-statistical. I suspect that in a decade unless you have certain risk factors these will become a thing of the past. DO get up and move, that's the best insurance against clot formation--alwaysask your Practitioner for medical advice.
