Mijin Gakure was also used to remove raise sickness. It could save 5 min in a BCNM if you really needed it. you could get up and start kiting. If it was night time you could kite like a BEAST.
Soul Voice used to be the only way to completely cap haste on classic. Use it to cap haste on a DRK Kclub used to be the ONLY way to kill AV. Also would make Kirin fights 30 seconds with no adds....... Now I can kill AV in 2 WS ; ;
DNC was very broken when it came out. Its only weakness was needing to be always close to hit the monster. Didn't work well on old HNM..... Even leveling dancer in retail now you can see that its broken compared to leveling other jobs. It takes top tier 119 gear but its still seems OP. I can do 50k WS 99k SC on Apex. And still has epic solo skills. Its issue is that it doesn't fit in well into Zerg meta. Has low white damage.
Astral Flow classic used to be GARBAGE. In >RETAIL< its broken AF. MEGA MEGA MEGA MEGA broken. If in doubt just bring 2 SMN and you can insta kill anything in the game. BROKEN. God damn its way broken. Every other 2H what is now 1H... sucks compared to Astral Flow.
Soul Voice is 100% S Tier. It is by far the most powerful 2 hour in the game because it multiplies the damage your entire alliance is already doing and you can have multiple bards stack theirs with different songs turning your alliance into gods for it's duration. If your Bard has a Ghjallerhorn it is SSS Tier because it can break existing hard caps. It can also save your life in the wild easily by making your lullaby's stick for full duration. Bards don't fight stuff you aggro, you sleep and either log out or run away and you need a full duration lullaby to sleep log. I can't think of a single time or piece of content in FFXI that Soul Voice is not useful in.
@@chinaflying78 5 minutes? We drop him in like 1 minute with soul voice. Just under 3 minutes without soul voice before berserk and aggressor even wear off. Depending on the amount of deaths from him spamming TP moves. lol
I used Benediction as a wee WHM in the dunes, and the experience was so traumatic that I've scarcely used it sense, outside of soloing, at least. Also, Chainspell was one I always struggled with. Any time I was at a point where I'd consider using it, I was already far too low on mp to do so.
By the way, I absolutely love this format of doing a tier list for FFXI stuff. It makes for some interesting conversation and friendly debate. You should do more for different things!
The only time I saw NIN 2 hour be useful was when arise first came out and I was main WHM. My linkshell asked me to meet them in south gusta and they were alll NIN. They gifted me the arise scroll then blew themselves up for me to fix. That was a good time in FFXI.
I think this was a really fun video. There's not a lot of FFXI content out there, and I'm constantly looking for fun videos like these, and sometimes your channel doesn't necessarily provide that content, but videos like this actually do. I hope it shoots up. But then again, FFXI is pretty niche tho lol. Also: I was recently doing a promy and we were getting wiped at the final boss and I used my 2H as Corsair, allowing Fenrir to Howling Moon once more, killing the boss. That was legit.
I think we might need more than one tier list. It's hard to compare damage 2hrs to utility. For the damage dealing 2hrs, I think it would make sense to base the tiers on a set of consistent criteria. And then decide the tier position from there. A solo mid-level war getting an unfortunate link in Davoi and not being saved by a 2hr isn't really fair: They are already a poor solo class. Things I would consider on a DD 2hr tier ranking: 1. How much damage can they can do without support. 2. How much damage can they can do in a normal party (with only haste as a buff.) 3. How much damage they can do with full buffs (bard + haste) 4. How fast does the damage come out. 5. How much TP spam will it cause (only matters in small groups. Enemies hit by multiple melee get full TP in seconds.) 6. Silly theory-zone: Soul voiced buffs, a corsair, and multi-boxed white mages spamming cure 5s (only a hundred fist, soul eater monk might need this, and it's probably not worth it.) Hundred fists is a solid S tier damage ability level 1 to 75. Is amazing with very little support, and scales with attack / accuracy. But (I don't think?) Haste does much, or anything at all, because your attack speed is already capped. And it takes 45 seconds to dish out. By comparison: DRK 2hr is just a drain... but it lets you last resort + soul-eater without hurting yourself. With just gear and merits a drk can reach 50% haste solo (desperate blows merits.) Add 1 haste spell for 65%. Add a bard for 80% haste cap. A slow scythe (528) would swing with ~105 delay and deal 10%-12% of HP as extra damage (not an ideal weapon.) A 300 damage scythe swinging with ~105 delay, a 25% attack buff from last resort , 2-hander accuracy, and +25 acc from souleater will put out tons of damage. You can go even further beyond with a kraken and more buffs, but a basic scythe, good gear, and just haste will compete with/beat 100 fists in many fights. Add a bard and there's no contest. Some of that might be wrong. I'm pretty familar with both MNK and DRK as I played a lot of both at 75 cap, but it has been over a decade... I'm less familiar with WAR and SAM, but I do know WAR 2hr also scales really well with buffs / gear, and SAM hardly scales at all (only on attack I guess?) In a non-buffed, unplanned, emergency, I'd want MNK and SAM 2hrs over DRK and WAR. Like a Pre-75 leveling party with a bad link and low MP. Any opportunity you can really charge the bass cannons: I'd take DRK and WAR.
In terms of overall gamebreaking power: SS) Red Mage S) Dark Knight (if considering Kraken Klub souleater zerging) A) Bard and then everything else lower, MUCH lower.
Just adding to the mnk vs war discussion. I think one thing to consider is what the attack delay and overall battle speed at 75 era. War was still super slow with its Gaxe swings and even a few misses renders it almost useless in many situations. Mnk, even if acc is an issue will still do a little bit, plus tp generation and possible extra ws' or at least one at the end if you dont want to interrupt the 2hr. TBH, i like them both and each had some great moments, but i personally found that HF saved me much more often.
Chainspell introduced stun locking into the game as a valid strategy for Shadowlord in Dynamis. Without it, who knows how long it would have taken us to figure out how to beat Dyna Xarc.
I remember back in the day on Samurai... I started carrying Icarus wings, specifically FOR my 2H. I'd be on some tough boss fight and on TeamSpeak I tell the bros... "Ok guys, gonna 2H, hold your TP for a sec." Then get like 3 light Skill Chains by doing yukikaze->gekko->kasha with abilities and the icarus wing sprinkled in there. Samurai was tough back int he day, you had to have knowledge of almost all other weapon's weapon skills in order to know what skill chains with what.
We must have played on different games called FFXI. Because the FFXI I played with "call wyvern" as a two hour was USELESS in emergency situations. RNG and BST two hour could possibly save you.
Several old 75 2hr Tactics depend on setup and how it was used. Good examples I've used back in the day in Sky/Sea/Dyna > ~Ninja Kamikaze. One thing they never explained was that Mijin was actually Non-Elemental Magic Damage, and it could actually cut through resistances if the Ninja deliberately geared for Magic Attack. To this day I still have screenshots of Mijin doing double a Taru Blm's T4 on Angra in Dyna-Beau. (Ninja didn't need the win and was getting annoyed chasing the Boss around. Actually had +MA gear as had several mage jobs at 75.) ~MNK/DRK Hundred Fists. LS used to deliberately use this on certain Bosses, including DL. A +Haste Geared Monk with Hundred Fists and Souleater up would literally chew through things, it actually took 3-4 WHMs spamming Cures to keep the Monk up, but even with Spam and Benes' they never pulled hate off the PLDs or Heavy DDs. ~Crack BRD. LS actually had a Gjallarhorn BRD back in 75 cap. Gjallar/Soul Voice Mazurka was damn sweet for 75 cap Relic NM Farming. Same thing for Boss Fights, 6MP/tic Ballad for the BLM PT was addicting to the extreme.
This is a fun topic to think about - Arch Dynamis Lord, the Bards would literally sing for their supper :) They were paid 1.8 - 2.6 Mil depending on what we could sell the Marrows for in Jeuno. The marrows always sold quickly. Even outside Dynamis, Bards were always 'Instrumental' to our success. :)
Been watching your channel for a while to satisfy my FFXI nostalgia. Perhaps in 15 years when my kids are grown, I’ll be able to play again. 😅 Thanks for keeping the conversation about this game going! Easily one of the most fun and rewarding MMOs, though the group grind was tough. Speaking of, my main was WHM when I played (pre-trusts era), and I agreed with most of what you said about Benediction, except the ranking and the usefulness of it. I personally felt like I was singlehandedly helping my groups avoid downtime from raising and weakened states if a pull was too tough or had accidentally aggroed multiple enemies by rushing in and essentially taking one for the team. That’s pretty much what WHM is all about - making sure *the rest of you* don’t die. Benediction was the ultimate way to do that, and I never resented any exp loss from it. It just felt good to be able to keep everyone else going, either fighting or giving them enough HP to make it to a zone. Plus, a good WHM never was without Divine Seal + their highest Reraise. 😉 It’s maybe not an S, but A for sure. Of course, the game has changed a lot since I played regularly! It may be total garbage now! 🤣
The strat for winning against the Mini Avatar Battles was to use Astral Flow and Regen. Searing Light was the ticket, and yeah I won all my battles with that shit man.
If I remember right, Azure Lore made your physical spells act as if you had 300% TP or something like that, and the really good blu spells had pretty beefy TP modifiers. I remember it being some really nice burst damage especially as a Skillchain finisher but I did have to put a message in the macro to let people know not to WS for a few seconds lol
Stack haste and use hasso. I think merits gave you haste during soul eater. Soul eater and hasso was enough to give you a lot of accuracy. Throw in a little double attack gear and you have some ridiculous damage
Wow, did you not find x2 soul voice amazing for the alliance. Too decimate most of the sky tier bosses. That losing the fight cost you the pop items you spend god knows how many hours farming, or competing with other ls's for the NM's that would drop a pop item. Regardless, if your doing sky, HNM's. Or sea. I hated playing bard, but the facts are they where so useful, and had so much utility. That if you where a bard that didn't mind spamming acc songs+ atk songs then multiple that with soul voice. Was simply enough buffs too anahliate almost every HNM, or sky, sea gods. Minus AV. Point is bard is easily without a doubt S tier, and broken for the potential they had. Of course a noob player not aware of how too play 2set songs they are asked too cast, and recast just too ensure buffs didn't fall off. More often then not They would die in no time flat. Ohh, and group a bard with 7blms yeah that's fun too. 😄
Tabula Rasa is unfair how good it was at 75. Access to Embrava and Kaustra. Look up what they do. You can get 2 of each off before tabula Rasa wears off. You get to use every stratagem with every cast - so potency/cost/time. Tabula Rasa is S tier all day. It's so good. And if you haven't experienced it, I'm sorry to hear that. Some SCH somewhere probably let you down on this one 🤓
Blood weapon combo'd nicely with Souleater as well (even without K Club or Ridill or whater). In that sense, it did increase damage output because it allows you to leave Souleater up without faceplanting.
Astral Flow was S tier for Arch Dynamis Lord. My group made loads of Gil utilizing the 2 hrs from multiple Summoners on that boss. We sold the loot and split the gil after. Those were the days :) Your list looks solid otherwise. Also, we had DRKs go Kclubbing to help our members obtain shards for their relics.
As a mnk main from NA release, biased me totally wants to say it's a solid S. The number of times it has saved me while soloing, in lvling situations, and some missions/BCNMs. However, I must concede its primary fault; it relies on actually hitting the enemy. If your PT took on a mob that was too hard, it will basically be a miss-fest. Invincible and perfect dodge were hard counters and fighting another mnk was annoying as well. And maybe not the worst, but certainly one of the most annoying circumstances is when you get paralyzed. Overall, it was still super useful in a variety of situations, and for that I would give it an A. It was certainly one of the funnest 2hrs to use (especially with a KC, not useful at all, just crazy fun).
I used to use SCH's 2 hour to solo limbus at 75, rarely in party but Im sure most didn't use it, it activated both books, it gave reduced mp costs for both books but its real benefit was spamming stratagems. I think you could cap 4-5 stratagems which had a 40sec(merit i think) or 1min cooldown to recharge normally, and you could just spam them for awhile giving you a massive damage increase, while halving the mp cost and recast times.
Benediction is easily S tier and in some cases, even more useful than Invincible. I have saved countless party wipes in leveling parties, missions, Dynamis, and HNM fights because of this 2hr. Even if you die, you'll still have Reraise up and will then be hate free and everyone else is at least healthy enough to continue even with you weakened. The ability to instantly heal the party back to full HP and remove status ailments is invaluable. Invincible can still die to NMs using chainspell and nuking the PLD to death and then going after the rest of the party but Benediction is like a free reset. A WHM should have stoneskin and blink up in tough fights anyway and be able to cure themselves for a bit before going down before down or letting someone else in the party to grab hate or steal the hate off of you. It's also saved me quite a bit in solo situations if I'm aggroed by a True Sight enemy I can land a Repose or a warp scroll. Sure, other job abilities may be nice to prepare to take down an enemy or HOPE to take them down quickly but the fact that Benediction is REACTIONARY when things go bad is the very definition of an "oh shit" ability that 2hrs were meant to be. It shouldn't even be compared to a DNC's Trance 2hr because when the party is 100-200 HP each from a massive AOE and everyone is paralyzed/poisoned/bound/silenced and what not, Trance isn't going to save the party. Benediction is the ultimate oh shit button. Invincible should still be considered best 2hr but Benediction can still occasionally top it.
Astral Flow in korroloka tunnel exp farming was instantly effective as long as you had a job sync and a cor for 2hr reset. Great way to build conquest points too 😁 so many nights after dynamis runs spending time with ls mates building up exp on jobs.
Also, best use of Perfect Dodge: When everyone (but a THF) in Dynamis gets charmed, you pop Perfect Dodge and pray the Charm lasts 30 seconds (else it is time to pop Flee and try to kite your LS.) I might or might not have done this multiple times in Dynamis - Beaucedine (the best of all the Dynamis's)
Lol i cant see what world 100fist is S tier and drk and smn is C tier. i feel like this is a bias not spending a lot of time in end game. Like what fight did you ever build a strat around 100fist? i literally cant think of one i can think of many fights where sam smn and drk 2hrs were planned around. my list S- drk pld whm A- brd sam rdm smn B- war dnc blm c- sch pup bst blue cor thf mnk D-drg nin f- rng reason pld goes with out saying. DRK is to good with synergy of the job not only is it a dmg boost it self but it dmg healing is based of your dmg which means u get even more dmg and healing when combining it with soul eater so Soul eater+blood+multi hit it is easily the highest dmg dmg based 2hr on top of keeping u alive it can even be compared to mnk or war which do less dmg and dont have healing attached. whm it is a lot of hate but you normally use it at end of fight when low on mp and u just need to by time to deal last 5%hp plus combine it with pld 2hr and hate is managable so many clutch whm 2hr+pld 2hr to clutch end of fights brd- lots of fight planned around this smn- again very good when planned around sam- high dmg plus opens of lots of burst chances very good to zerg burst phases or end of fights rdm- amazing in theory buy it not really something you plan around and as it is more of a " o crap" 2hr but in o crap situations u are out of mana a lot and if you do convert+2hr or 2+hr pls convert you do risk death in that split second. dnc- this 2hr is actually broken but the job kinda sucked at 75 not good enough to be a dd not good enough to be a buffer not good enough to be a healer. kinda sucks rating a 2hr poorly cus of the job but as someone who loves dnc never heard any one be like "lets plan around trance" probably best "o crap" 2hr in game but job doesnt have fire power to back it up easy A+ or S if job was better War- lots of dmg can be higher than drk with multi hit weapons but unlike drk has no healing which means if you combine it with berserker with all that dps out put u putting a lot of stress on healers and can be 1shotted unlike drk who heals through dmg if they pull threat. Blm- decent 2hr but long cast time on ur best spells limit how many spells you use plus blm is normally brought into fights where you are planning around them so they should have referesh and you are planning around sc meaning organized groups never really ran out of mp anyways. mnk- just the worse of the 3 big dps ones yes it was good at early lvls that about it falls massively behind drk and war as gear gets better and u get more brds/rdm hasting u. basically reverse of drk and war where theres eearly kind of suck cus lack support where mnk 2hr makes up for lack of support so has reverse scaling to those cor- rng holds this back can be great however most time u just waste another person 2hr sch- doesnt really help much in what job does was mostly used as a dot mage that provided some healing and the occassional burst feels like the o crap button 2hr but it not really cus in o crap situation you either try to burst to finish it before dying or recover not both. blue- rarely played with this job probabyl cus it required so much sup at 75 with being a melee dps and caster so i can gauge this correctly. thf- decent for finishing fights low manning and soloing does literally nothing in group content as the thf isnt the tank and probably cant get hate so i guess if u need like to by time for 1 more dancing edge to finish fight cool. bst- tempted to put this at B cus it can be used to solo or low many some strong nm out in world but in zoned content basically useless pup- like dnc this is held back by the job dnc and pup both were pretty weak for most things in 75era. drg- cool but job was balanced around it despite it regularly getting killed to dots or aoe. rng- by far worst dmg 2hr even worse than mnks this basically just a sidewinder with no sc properties and capped acc. if it had sc properities could be ok as rng could make solo sc then but without it no sam is 2hr is 3ws with sc rng is 2hr is 1ws with no sc booooo like mnk is basically a worse vs of drk/war 2hr rng to me is a extremely crappy vs of sam 2hr. nin- lulz it a warp spell for if u dont have blm. thx for saving me the exp of death warping.
Huh. I haven't played FFXI in a while, but I expected Benediction to be higher. But then I remembered, as a PLD, I'd save my Invincible for when the WHM used Bene so they wouldn't die. I can't recall if there were circumstances where I could get hate back otherwise, but I imagine the majority of the time I just popped invincible, so I guess in that specific pairing it's a higher tier because the WHM doesn't have to die, and for me, that pairing was 100% of the time since I was pretty much exclusively a PLD.
Bunch of people never really played BST. There were a number of BCNM strategies back in the day that relied on BST 2hr. Plus I remember saving the day with a 2hrd funguar jug pet on the Shadowlord fight.
Azure lore was great since your spells could skillchain off each other, does require you to know some skillchains you can't use outside of your 2hr though, so its got quite the learning curve, but its alot of damage if you do it right.
some stuff on this list seems very dependent on solo content 2hrs like brds is EASILY S tier back in those days and honestly I agree with drk sort of but I think drk should probably be A if you're putting war that high, since no job can compete with it's insane dmg with the right set up during it's 2hr, Kirin was zergable.... with game changers like KC drks and brd's 2hrs
There's a flaw in your tier list criteria. FFXI is a party, holy trinity game. Of course there's a solo element to the game, but that was very limited to mostly BST, THF for farming.
I wouldn't go that far. There are plenty of jobs that could solo well. BLU, BLM, PUP, BST, RDM, DNC, NIN and even some others once DNC SJ existed. Was it as good as a party? Hell no, but it was viable.
Overdrive prevented overload while it was active. It should go up one. Azure Lore was great, definitely a C, maybe a B. The ability to self skillchain Light and Darkness back to back was insane, and I used it as often as it was ready.
I know I am late to the game but I would put perfect dodge at C. I have had multiple times I needed to pop it in dunes with sub war to try and hold a link when we had a mob spawn/link or if the tank went down to a mob ability. I also used it to clear mobs by zoning them to get a party through to a camp. I found a decent bit of utility from it in parties but it does feel like it really drops off. Though i think that bit of utility puts it above at least most or all of the D tiers. Aside from that nitpick I enjoyed the list. Would love to see a list on camps or music in the classic era.

Kinda disagree with hundred fists being S tier. It's very strong sure, but even with MNK's reduced TP feed, hundred fists feeds TP pretty badly. You said no one says "oh no the MNK HF'd" but I did. Because if whatever you just HF'd doesn't die fast it's gonna be pissing out TP moves almost like a KC WAR is attacking it. It's also a good way for a MNK to kill themselves as well. lol

Maybe you’re thinking almost entirely on levelling to manage your ranking. However, remember there was a lot of HNM content at 75. Dynamis Lord and Bahamut v2 were virtually impossible to beat without Chainspell and Soul Voice. I agree Invincible is top tier, but so is Manafont at 75 days (Divine Might, Dynamis, Limbus).
I know I'm late to this but when wife and I played she was probably the only whm to never die to benediction cause I was paladin and would invincible at the same time to save her

Eh... Monk is not S, not even a A. Benediction is S. The ability for Benediction to save parties is unparalleled. When a pld uses Invincible it was a HUGE deal, when a Whm used Benediction, It was a HUGE DEAL. S tier for Benediction. Summoner Astral Flow has far More deps Potential than the others. in a clutch no mp it is what you use. I would say B at least. it dealt more damage than Hundred fist. Astral flow really was game changing. when a summoner used astral flow you paid attention. Hundred fist?... no one cared? it just... added dps? it is in no way an S tier. B at best. Hundred fist is useless if you cant hit the bad guy. or if your fists already deal no damage. in no way does it belong S tier. B at best. No way you set mighty strikes lower than hundred fists lmao, they are both very similar. As someone else said, the hundred fists can feed the mob for TP, so that can be VERY very dangerous.
RNG EES overlooks the opportunity for instant claim for the 75 era for camping the HNM Kings - especially Nidhogg and fighting over the 3 hour spawn windows! Should be higher on the list
Dude sch Tabla Raza at 75 was S tier. So much so it had to be nerfed by SE. Dont you remember sch TR and like 75 regen a tic for 15 minutes, along with all other buffs. And dont forget kastra, infinite spam dot. It was so broken that whm were no longer asked for.
There is a reason you brought drk with kraken clubs or merc kris back then against end game. With bard's, their own buffs and other buffs, no other class put out as much dps as them. They could reach insane attack power levels. I love monk, Sam and war but no way in the 75 era those classes did more than drk. I know from experience as I had done it for my dynamis ls all the time back in the day.
Manafont, BLM 2hr, also made it impossible to interrupt casting which is a huge bonus you kind of missed. I would've prioritized this list totally different than you because I focused mostly on endgame back in the day rather than random adventuring. My LS didn't take a MNK to anything unless they had no other jobs to bring, and even then they were brought in just to shoot chi blast and then drop party and boost up again. Their 2hr was worthless in most content that was over moderate difficulty. Soul voice was OP in my opinion. Bards made everything easier already, and their 2hr made the whole party a powerhouse.

You're short selling sch by a lot, lol. Lasts a decently long amount of time, gain 2 new op spells one regen one dot and massively buffs regens and dots. Embrava for one is so strong that it used to be able to keep a tank regen healed for like 90s without any other spells. It's much better than a C 😉
It used to give TP regen to party to, x2 regen if u put regen IV on also with enhanced duration means party no longer needing heaing for a while and they could spam tp moves to boot. Should of been S tier for sure back thren.
& if you have mage trust in your party, BST can easily self-skill chain and they MB the brakes off of mobs hahaha. Tedor, Shantotto, that Cradian, etc....
Did sch have embrava at 75? With 2hr you could over power your party for a few minutes before it was nerfed. Also Sam is probably better than hundred fists. More dmg, less to given tp enemy. Its the only 2hr which is consistently used, and heavily used in endgame. Saved my ass and a party countless times.
I wouldn't put monks 2 hour in s tier over samurai. My nickname for hundred fist was 100 misses. Samurai 2 hours insane damage every 2 hours. Every time I used it in party and solo. The mob was dead. If I used monk 2 hour 50% of the time I died. Drew hate missed a lot and got killed.
great video but some of them are off IMO Pup 2 hour in Era lets you solo crazy things. Overdrive turns your puppet into a tanking or dps machine also manafont a? more like C or D early levels its nice but when would you need MP in late levels? also with BRD, Cor, or RDM we give you MP its a bad 2 hour for solo? just sleep it and rest....

Astral Flow classic used to be GARBAGE. In >RETAIL< its broken AF. MEGA MEGA MEGA MEGA broken. If in doubt just bring 2 SMN and you can insta kill anything in the game. BROKEN. God damn its way broken. Every other 2H what is now 1H... sucks compared to Astral Flow.
You *sorely* underrate Soul Voice. Hands-down it belongs in the S-Tier.
Soul Voice is 100% S Tier. It is by far the most powerful 2 hour in the game because it multiplies the damage your entire alliance is already doing and you can have multiple bards stack theirs with different songs turning your alliance into gods for it's duration. If your Bard has a Ghjallerhorn it is SSS Tier because it can break existing hard caps.
It can also save your life in the wild easily by making your lullaby's stick for full duration. Bards don't fight stuff you aggro, you sleep and either log out or run away and you need a full duration lullaby to sleep log.
I can't think of a single time or piece of content in FFXI that Soul Voice is not useful in.
I fully agree with this. Also, G-horn Bards are the things of legends.

I used Benediction as a wee WHM in the dunes, and the experience was so traumatic that I've scarcely used it sense, outside of soloing, at least.
Also, Chainspell was one I always struggled with. Any time I was at a point where I'd consider using it, I was already far too low on mp to do so.
Ninjas 2 hour had a niche use to remove weakness after a death. You could raise 2 hour get raised again and not be weakened

Mijin gokure was used primarily for when you die raise mijin gokure and raised for no weakness
Agreed many times used this to remove weakness this was a godsend on some fights
that was added later. It wasn't like that at the start.
By the way, I absolutely love this format of doing a tier list for FFXI stuff. It makes for some interesting conversation and friendly debate. You should do more for different things!
The only time I saw NIN 2 hour be useful was when arise first came out and I was main WHM. My linkshell asked me to meet them in south gusta and they were alll NIN. They gifted me the arise scroll then blew themselves up for me to fix. That was a good time in FFXI.
I think this was a really fun video. There's not a lot of FFXI content out there, and I'm constantly looking for fun videos like these, and sometimes your channel doesn't necessarily provide that content, but videos like this actually do. I hope it shoots up. But then again, FFXI is pretty niche tho lol. Also: I was recently doing a promy and we were getting wiped at the final boss and I used my 2H as Corsair, allowing Fenrir to Howling Moon once more, killing the boss. That was legit.
I think we might need more than one tier list. It's hard to compare damage 2hrs to utility.
For the damage dealing 2hrs, I think it would make sense to base the tiers on a set of consistent criteria. And then decide the tier position from there. A solo mid-level war getting an unfortunate link in Davoi and not being saved by a 2hr isn't really fair: They are already a poor solo class.
Things I would consider on a DD 2hr tier ranking:
1. How much damage can they can do without support.
2. How much damage can they can do in a normal party (with only haste as a buff.)
3. How much damage they can do with full buffs (bard + haste)
4. How fast does the damage come out.
5. How much TP spam will it cause (only matters in small groups. Enemies hit by multiple melee get full TP in seconds.)
6. Silly theory-zone: Soul voiced buffs, a corsair, and multi-boxed white mages spamming cure 5s (only a hundred fist, soul eater monk might need this, and it's probably not worth it.)
Hundred fists is a solid S tier damage ability level 1 to 75. Is amazing with very little support, and scales with attack / accuracy. But (I don't think?) Haste does much, or anything at all, because your attack speed is already capped. And it takes 45 seconds to dish out. By comparison: DRK 2hr is just a drain... but it lets you last resort + soul-eater without hurting yourself. With just gear and merits a drk can reach 50% haste solo (desperate blows merits.) Add 1 haste spell for 65%. Add a bard for 80% haste cap. A slow scythe (528) would swing with ~105 delay and deal 10%-12% of HP as extra damage (not an ideal weapon.) A 300 damage scythe swinging with ~105 delay, a 25% attack buff from last resort , 2-hander accuracy, and +25 acc from souleater will put out tons of damage.
You can go even further beyond with a kraken and more buffs, but a basic scythe, good gear, and just haste will compete with/beat 100 fists in many fights. Add a bard and there's no contest.
Some of that might be wrong. I'm pretty familar with both MNK and DRK as I played a lot of both at 75 cap, but it has been over a decade...
I'm less familiar with WAR and SAM, but I do know WAR 2hr also scales really well with buffs / gear, and SAM hardly scales at all (only on attack I guess?) In a non-buffed, unplanned, emergency, I'd want MNK and SAM 2hrs over DRK and WAR. Like a Pre-75 leveling party with a bad link and low MP. Any opportunity you can really charge the bass cannons: I'd take DRK and WAR.
In terms of overall gamebreaking power:
SS) Red Mage
S) Dark Knight (if considering Kraken Klub souleater zerging)
A) Bard
and then everything else lower, MUCH lower.
In terms of overall day to day usefulness the list is completely different
Just adding to the mnk vs war discussion. I think one thing to consider is what the attack delay and overall battle speed at 75 era. War was still super slow with its Gaxe swings and even a few misses renders it almost useless in many situations. Mnk, even if acc is an issue will still do a little bit, plus tp generation and possible extra ws' or at least one at the end if you dont want to interrupt the 2hr. TBH, i like them both and each had some great moments, but i personally found that HF saved me much more often.
Chainspell introduced stun locking into the game as a valid strategy for Shadowlord in Dynamis. Without it, who knows how long it would have taken us to figure out how to beat Dyna Xarc.

I remember back in the day on Samurai... I started carrying Icarus wings, specifically FOR my 2H. I'd be on some tough boss fight and on TeamSpeak I tell the bros...
"Ok guys, gonna 2H, hold your TP for a sec." Then get like 3 light Skill Chains by doing yukikaze->gekko->kasha with abilities and the icarus wing sprinkled in there.
Samurai was tough back int he day, you had to have knowledge of almost all other weapon's weapon skills in order to know what skill chains with what.
We must have played on different games called FFXI. Because the FFXI I played with "call wyvern" as a two hour was USELESS in emergency situations. RNG and BST two hour could possibly save you.
Several old 75 2hr Tactics depend on setup and how it was used. Good examples I've used back in the day in Sky/Sea/Dyna >
~Ninja Kamikaze. One thing they never explained was that Mijin was actually Non-Elemental Magic Damage, and it could actually cut through resistances if the Ninja deliberately geared for Magic Attack. To this day I still have screenshots of Mijin doing double a Taru Blm's T4 on Angra in Dyna-Beau. (Ninja didn't need the win and was getting annoyed chasing the Boss around. Actually had +MA gear as had several mage jobs at 75.)
~MNK/DRK Hundred Fists. LS used to deliberately use this on certain Bosses, including DL. A +Haste Geared Monk with Hundred Fists and Souleater up would literally chew through things, it actually took 3-4 WHMs spamming Cures to keep the Monk up, but even with Spam and Benes' they never pulled hate off the PLDs or Heavy DDs.
~Crack BRD. LS actually had a Gjallarhorn BRD back in 75 cap. Gjallar/Soul Voice Mazurka was damn sweet for 75 cap Relic NM Farming. Same thing for Boss Fights, 6MP/tic Ballad for the BLM PT was addicting to the extreme.
This is a fun topic to think about - Arch Dynamis Lord, the Bards would literally sing for their supper :) They were paid 1.8 - 2.6 Mil depending on what we could sell the Marrows for in Jeuno. The marrows always sold quickly. Even outside Dynamis, Bards were always 'Instrumental' to our success. :)

Been watching your channel for a while to satisfy my FFXI nostalgia. Perhaps in 15 years when my kids are grown, I’ll be able to play again. 😅 Thanks for keeping the conversation about this game going! Easily one of the most fun and rewarding MMOs, though the group grind was tough.
Speaking of, my main was WHM when I played (pre-trusts era), and I agreed with most of what you said about Benediction, except the ranking and the usefulness of it. I personally felt like I was singlehandedly helping my groups avoid downtime from raising and weakened states if a pull was too tough or had accidentally aggroed multiple enemies by rushing in and essentially taking one for the team. That’s pretty much what WHM is all about - making sure *the rest of you* don’t die. Benediction was the ultimate way to do that, and I never resented any exp loss from it. It just felt good to be able to keep everyone else going, either fighting or giving them enough HP to make it to a zone. Plus, a good WHM never was without Divine Seal + their highest Reraise. 😉
It’s maybe not an S, but A for sure. Of course, the game has changed a lot since I played regularly! It may be total garbage now! 🤣
My friend Tiky used ninja's 2 hour in chains of P battle and won for the party. So they all wiped he got up blew up and won the fight.
Blood weapon with soul eater was where the crazy damage came from. You can't just judge blood weapon without souleater
The strat for winning against the Mini Avatar Battles was to use Astral Flow and Regen. Searing Light was the ticket, and yeah I won all my battles with that shit man.
If I remember right, Azure Lore made your physical spells act as if you had 300% TP or something like that, and the really good blu spells had pretty beefy TP modifiers. I remember it being some really nice burst damage especially as a Skillchain finisher but I did have to put a message in the macro to let people know not to WS for a few seconds lol

Stack haste and use hasso. I think merits gave you haste during soul eater. Soul eater and hasso was enough to give you a lot of accuracy. Throw in a little double attack gear and you have some ridiculous damage

Wow, did you not find x2 soul voice amazing for the alliance. Too decimate most of the sky tier bosses. That losing the fight cost you the pop items you spend god knows how many hours farming, or competing with other ls's for the NM's that would drop a pop item. Regardless, if your doing sky, HNM's. Or sea. I hated playing bard, but the facts are they where so useful, and had so much utility. That if you where a bard that didn't mind spamming acc songs+ atk songs then multiple that with soul voice. Was simply enough buffs too anahliate almost every HNM, or sky, sea gods. Minus AV. Point is bard is easily without a doubt S tier, and broken for the potential they had. Of course a noob player not aware of how too play 2set songs they are asked too cast, and recast just too ensure buffs didn't fall off. More often then not They would die in no time flat. Ohh, and group a bard with 7blms yeah that's fun too. 😄
Tabula Rasa is unfair how good it was at 75. Access to Embrava and Kaustra. Look up what they do. You can get 2 of each off before tabula Rasa wears off. You get to use every stratagem with every cast - so potency/cost/time.

Blood weapon combo'd nicely with Souleater as well (even without K Club or Ridill or whater). In that sense, it did increase damage output because it allows you to leave Souleater up without faceplanting.

Astral Flow was S tier for Arch Dynamis Lord. My group made loads of Gil utilizing the 2 hrs from multiple Summoners on that boss. We sold the loot and split the gil after. Those were the days :) Your list looks solid otherwise.
Also, we had DRKs go Kclubbing to help our members obtain shards for their relics.
Haha ya DRK WAR and SMN are probably the trickiest in terms of “range” of usefulness

As a mnk main from NA release, biased me totally wants to say it's a solid S. The number of times it has saved me while soloing, in lvling situations, and some missions/BCNMs. However, I must concede its primary fault; it relies on actually hitting the enemy. If your PT took on a mob that was too hard, it will basically be a miss-fest. Invincible and perfect dodge were hard counters and fighting another mnk was annoying as well. And maybe not the worst, but certainly one of the most annoying circumstances is when you get paralyzed.
Overall, it was still super useful in a variety of situations, and for that I would give it an A. It was certainly one of the funnest 2hrs to use (especially with a KC, not useful at all, just crazy fun).
I used to use SCH's 2 hour to solo limbus at 75, rarely in party but Im sure most didn't use it, it activated both books, it gave reduced mp costs for both books but its real benefit was spamming stratagems. I think you could cap 4-5 stratagems which had a 40sec(merit i think) or 1min cooldown to recharge normally, and you could just spam them for awhile giving you a massive damage increase, while halving the mp cost and recast times.
Benediction is easily S tier and in some cases, even more useful than Invincible. I have saved countless party wipes in leveling parties, missions, Dynamis, and HNM fights because of this 2hr. Even if you die, you'll still have Reraise up and will then be hate free and everyone else is at least healthy enough to continue even with you weakened. The ability to instantly heal the party back to full HP and remove status ailments is invaluable. Invincible can still die to NMs using chainspell and nuking the PLD to death and then going after the rest of the party but Benediction is like a free reset. A WHM should have stoneskin and blink up in tough fights anyway and be able to cure themselves for a bit before going down before down or letting someone else in the party to grab hate or steal the hate off of you. It's also saved me quite a bit in solo situations if I'm aggroed by a True Sight enemy I can land a Repose or a warp scroll.
Sure, other job abilities may be nice to prepare to take down an enemy or HOPE to take them down quickly but the fact that Benediction is REACTIONARY when things go bad is the very definition of an "oh shit" ability that 2hrs were meant to be. It shouldn't even be compared to a DNC's Trance 2hr because when the party is 100-200 HP each from a massive AOE and everyone is paralyzed/poisoned/bound/silenced and what not, Trance isn't going to save the party. Benediction is the ultimate oh shit button. Invincible should still be considered best 2hr but Benediction can still occasionally top it.
RDM ---> convert--->chainspell---> saved many party. Minimal mp required.

Astral Flow in korroloka tunnel exp farming was instantly effective as long as you had a job sync and a cor for 2hr reset. Great way to build conquest points too 😁 so many nights after dynamis runs spending time with ls mates building up exp on jobs.
Also, best use of Perfect Dodge: When everyone (but a THF) in Dynamis gets charmed, you pop Perfect Dodge and pray the Charm lasts 30 seconds (else it is time to pop Flee and try to kite your LS.)
I might or might not have done this multiple times in Dynamis - Beaucedine (the best of all the Dynamis's)

DRK is to good with synergy of the job not only is it a dmg boost it self but it dmg healing is based of your dmg which means u get even more dmg and healing when combining it with soul eater so Soul eater+blood+multi hit it is easily the highest dmg dmg based 2hr on top of keeping u alive it can even be compared to mnk or war which do less dmg and dont have healing attached.
whm it is a lot of hate but you normally use it at end of fight when low on mp and u just need to by time to deal last 5%hp plus combine it with pld 2hr and hate is managable so many clutch whm 2hr+pld 2hr to clutch end of fights
brd- lots of fight planned around this
smn- again very good when planned around
sam- high dmg plus opens of lots of burst chances very good to zerg burst phases or end of fights
rdm- amazing in theory buy it not really something you plan around and as it is more of a " o crap" 2hr but in o crap situations u are out of mana a lot and if you do convert+2hr or 2+hr pls convert you do risk death in that split second.
dnc- this 2hr is actually broken but the job kinda sucked at 75 not good enough to be a dd not good enough to be a buffer not good enough to be a healer. kinda sucks rating a 2hr poorly cus of the job but as someone who loves dnc never heard any one be like "lets plan around trance" probably best "o crap" 2hr in game but job doesnt have fire power to back it up easy A+ or S if job was better
War- lots of dmg can be higher than drk with multi hit weapons but unlike drk has no healing which means if you combine it with berserker with all that dps out put u putting a lot of stress on healers and can be 1shotted unlike drk who heals through dmg if they pull threat.
Blm- decent 2hr but long cast time on ur best spells limit how many spells you use plus blm is normally brought into fights where you are planning around them so they should have referesh and you are planning around sc meaning organized groups never really ran out of mp anyways.
mnk- just the worse of the 3 big dps ones yes it was good at early lvls that about it falls massively behind drk and war as gear gets better and u get more brds/rdm hasting u. basically reverse of drk and war where theres eearly kind of suck cus lack support where mnk 2hr makes up for lack of support so has reverse scaling to those
cor- rng holds this back can be great however most time u just waste another person 2hr
sch- doesnt really help much in what job does was mostly used as a dot mage that provided some healing and the occassional burst feels like the o crap button 2hr but it not really cus in o crap situation you either try to burst to finish it before dying or recover not both.
blue- rarely played with this job probabyl cus it required so much sup at 75 with being a melee dps and caster so i can gauge this correctly.
thf- decent for finishing fights low manning and soloing does literally nothing in group content as the thf isnt the tank and probably cant get hate so i guess if u need like to by time for 1 more dancing edge to finish fight cool.
bst- tempted to put this at B cus it can be used to solo or low many some strong nm out in world but in zoned content basically useless
pup- like dnc this is held back by the job dnc and pup both were pretty weak for most things in 75era.
drg- cool but job was balanced around it despite it regularly getting killed to dots or aoe.
rng- by far worst dmg 2hr even worse than mnks this basically just a sidewinder with no sc properties and capped acc. if it had sc properities could be ok as rng could make solo sc then but without it no sam is 2hr is 3ws with sc rng is 2hr is 1ws with no sc booooo like mnk is basically a worse vs of drk/war 2hr rng to me is a extremely crappy vs of sam 2hr.

Huh. I haven't played FFXI in a while, but I expected Benediction to be higher. But then I remembered, as a PLD, I'd save my Invincible for when the WHM used Bene so they wouldn't die. I can't recall if there were circumstances where I could get hate back otherwise, but I imagine the majority of the time I just popped invincible, so I guess in that specific pairing it's a higher tier because the WHM doesn't have to die, and for me, that pairing was 100% of the time since I was pretty much exclusively a PLD.
I could usually keep hate with just sentinel, but that was after they buffed it.
"Makes you a Red Mage for a little bit?" I loved that line in regards to the Scholar two hour lol.
Bunch of people never really played BST. There were a number of BCNM strategies back in the day that relied on BST 2hr.
Plus I remember saving the day with a 2hrd funguar jug pet on the Shadowlord fight.
Call Wyvern is a solid G tier from me.

WAR/NIN was a thing. Also can be a secondary tank to help set up SA/TA on the main tank.

Azure lore was great since your spells could skillchain off each other, does require you to know some skillchains you can't use outside of your 2hr though, so its got quite the learning curve, but its alot of damage if you do it right.
some stuff on this list seems very dependent on solo content 2hrs like brds is EASILY S tier back in those days and honestly I agree with drk sort of but I think drk should probably be A if you're putting war that high, since no job can compete with it's insane dmg with the right set up during it's 2hr, Kirin was zergable.... with game changers like KC drks and brd's 2hrs
Pup is a c. You can't overload while using it. With turbo charger and 3 wind maneuvers your puppet is half as fast as 100 fist. Extra def. Extra Eva
There's a flaw in your tier list criteria. FFXI is a party, holy trinity game.
Of course there's a solo element to the game, but that was very limited to mostly BST, THF for farming.
I wouldn't go that far. There are plenty of jobs that could solo well. BLU, BLM, PUP, BST, RDM, DNC, NIN and even some others once DNC SJ existed. Was it as good as a party? Hell no, but it was viable.

Overdrive prevented overload while it was active. It should go up one. Azure Lore was great, definitely a C, maybe a B. The ability to self skillchain Light and Darkness back to back was insane, and I used it as often as it was ready.
The DRG 2 hour changed from Call Wyvern to Spirit Surge in 2005... Well before the 75 cap was raised to 80.
Soul voice is S+ tier better than everything else in that S tier list. And that is a fact, not an opinion.
I know I am late to the game but I would put perfect dodge at C. I have had multiple times I needed to pop it in dunes with sub war to try and hold a link when we had a mob spawn/link or if the tank went down to a mob ability. I also used it to clear mobs by zoning them to get a party through to a camp. I found a decent bit of utility from it in parties but it does feel like it really drops off. Though i think that bit of utility puts it above at least most or all of the D tiers.
Aside from that nitpick I enjoyed the list. Would love to see a list on camps or music in the classic era.

Kinda disagree with hundred fists being S tier. It's very strong sure, but even with MNK's reduced TP feed, hundred fists feeds TP pretty badly. You said no one says "oh no the MNK HF'd" but I did. Because if whatever you just HF'd doesn't die fast it's gonna be pissing out TP moves almost like a KC WAR is attacking it. It's also a good way for a MNK to kill themselves as well. lol

Maybe you’re thinking almost entirely on levelling to manage your ranking. However, remember there was a lot of HNM content at 75. Dynamis Lord and Bahamut v2 were virtually impossible to beat without Chainspell and Soul Voice. I agree Invincible is top tier, but so is Manafont at 75 days (Divine Might, Dynamis, Limbus).
Chainspell is by far the best.

Benediction is S. The ability for Benediction to save parties is unparalleled. When a pld uses Invincible it was a HUGE deal, when a Whm used Benediction, It was a HUGE DEAL. S tier for Benediction.
Summoner Astral Flow has far More deps Potential than the others. in a clutch no mp it is what you use. I would say B at least. it dealt more damage than Hundred fist. Astral flow really was game changing. when a summoner used astral flow you paid attention.
Hundred fist?... no one cared? it just... added dps? it is in no way an S tier. B at best. Hundred fist is useless if you cant hit the bad guy. or if your fists already deal no damage. in no way does it belong S tier. B at best. No way you set mighty strikes lower than hundred fists lmao, they are both very similar. As someone else said, the hundred fists can feed the mob for TP, so that can be VERY very dangerous.

RNG EES overlooks the opportunity for instant claim for the 75 era for camping the HNM Kings - especially Nidhogg and fighting over the 3 hour spawn windows! Should be higher on the list
Ya when dancer came out back then, finding a party was do hard for me as whm. Ppl choice dnc over whm for cures and dps.
Azure Lore didnt do anything at all pretty much. All it does in 75 era is that it treats all spells as 3500 tp
Dude sch Tabla Raza at 75 was S tier. So much so it had to be nerfed by SE.
Dont you remember sch TR and like 75 regen a tic for 15 minutes, along with all other buffs. And dont forget kastra, infinite spam dot.
It was so broken that whm were no longer asked for.

i got blu to 60+ without using blu 2hr once. pup tho is a lifesaver solo, was like bst 2hr except puppets can voke, made or break bcnms
I think the NIN 2 hour should come with revive. It would be much more ninja like to be able to self reraise, even if in a weakened state.

There is a reason you brought drk with kraken clubs or merc kris back then against end game. With bard's, their own buffs and other buffs, no other class put out as much dps as them. They could reach insane attack power levels. I love monk, Sam and war but no way in the 75 era those classes did more than drk. I know from experience as I had done it for my dynamis ls all the time back in the day.

Manafont, BLM 2hr, also made it impossible to interrupt casting which is a huge bonus you kind of missed.
I would've prioritized this list totally different than you because I focused mostly on endgame back in the day rather than random adventuring. My LS didn't take a MNK to anything unless they had no other jobs to bring, and even then they were brought in just to shoot chi blast and then drop party and boost up again. Their 2hr was worthless in most content that was over moderate difficulty.
Soul voice was OP in my opinion. Bards made everything easier already, and their 2hr made the whole party a powerhouse.
If we're talking about manafont in the 99 era, manafont + manawall = invincible.

You're short selling sch by a lot, lol. Lasts a decently long amount of time, gain 2 new op spells one regen one dot and massively buffs regens and dots.
Embrava for one is so strong that it used to be able to keep a tank regen healed for like 90s without any other spells. It's much better than a C 😉

It used to give TP regen to party to, x2 regen if u put regen IV on also with enhanced duration means party no longer needing heaing for a while and they could spam tp moves to boot. Should of been S tier for sure back thren.
BST 2hr is pretty damn strong with the right JPs maxed out.
The Griffon Fantod to Hoofvolley can do maxed damage. 99999 or whatever it is.....
& if you have mage trust in your party, BST can easily self-skill chain and they MB the brakes off of mobs hahaha. Tedor, Shantotto, that Cradian, etc....
Bst 2hr in Boyahda Tree is god mode xp/farm . Shit even when duo faust in sky was God mode. Made tons of Gil

Did sch have embrava at 75? With 2hr you could over power your party for a few minutes before it was nerfed. Also Sam is probably better than hundred fists. More dmg, less to given tp enemy. Its the only 2hr which is consistently used, and heavily used in endgame. Saved my ass and a party countless times.

I wouldn't put monks 2 hour in s tier over samurai. My nickname for hundred fist was 100 misses. Samurai 2 hours insane damage every 2 hours. Every time I used it in party and solo. The mob was dead. If I used monk 2 hour 50% of the time I died. Drew hate missed a lot and got killed.

Pup 2 hour in Era lets you solo crazy things. Overdrive turns your puppet into a tanking or dps machine

early levels its nice but when would you need MP in late levels? also with BRD, Cor, or RDM we give you MP its a bad 2 hour
