Just another thing to point out here. When you get the envelope, the post office puts that tracking number label there to the left. Make sure you write down that number so you can go online and see if it is on its way back to you. The tracking number is there for you to use ☺.

I just went through the *process* today, and it *is* a process. It took me half a day (~6 hours) to finally complete the task so hopefully this comment can help someone to complete the task in an hour or so. I needed to send my Passort to an Embassy in Washington DC with a Visa Application and the Embassy required a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with tracking to return my documents. However, most situations requiring SASE with tracking mailed should be similar. 1. First, have all of your mailing materials ready. Have the self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with your address in the *TO* field already and the outer envelope pre-filled with your address in the *From* field. I used a document mailer for the outer envelope and a Priority mail envelope for the SASE, all filled out in advance. Edit: One side of the SASE had to be folded a little bit to get it to fit inside the outer envelope. 2. Go to the *Main* Post Office in your area. Smaller Post Offices seem to be unable to handle the task. I went to three different Post Offices trying to mail a SASE with tracking inside of another envelope with tracking. They said that they didn't have the Priority rolls, whatever that means. I believe it's the postage stickers for Priority mailing. 3. Be prepared to ask for a *Supervisor*. The regular clerk I first encountered at the Main USPS insisted that mailing a SASE with tracking was just not possible, but after we debated for several minutes, the first clerk went and got a Supervisor and the Supervisor was able to process the transaction and explain to the Clerk the procedure. It's just not something the USPS does often, even at larger Post Offices, so many clerks, especially the newer ones may be unable to help. 4. Postage and tracking will be put on *both* envelopes and *two* tracking numbers will be provided, with the SASE to be activated by the party sending the SASE back to you. Priority-shipping for both packages. Ran a little less than $20.00 ($18 and some change) for me at the time of me typing this comment. I believe the outer envelope can be sent with tracking without Priority for less because I've sent them this way in the past, but by now the Supervisor had left and the Clerk insisted that the only way to have tracking on the outer envelope was by Priority. Keep watching the appointment dates, especially at noon time because I read on the PCG website/Passport website that they refresh and update appointment times everyday at noon. I actually got my appointment date around noon. Just keep checking and refreshing the page everyday, if you can.

Erwin, first you should have told them the priority mail is for passport. Tell them the address from LA consulate to Your address in Denver, so that they can calculate the amount of postage. Yes I think you should go back to get the right postage

To Jersey Life: If you are mailing documents, It should be the other way around: TO: The passport agency, and FROM your residence. The passport agency will have its means and system of sending documents and communicating with you. *Not even* an overnight envelope will speed up their processing.

There is no reason to write down the tracking number. It will be on your receipt.
I'll renew mine in 2 weeks. This helped to clarify the envelope instruction.

Hi I told them that the priority envelope will be mailed from NY consulate to NJ and that is what they gave me.
