Great tips as always. One more humble advice from me: Don't expect your temps to be alright when your case is sitting in an extremely hot room without AC in summer. As long as the ambient temperature is too high, your case configuration can only do so much.
If you see this happening to you in summer, try and invest in some kind of AC for the room where your PC is.

For all those who struggle with the typical gcd-hotspot problem on rdna3 cards, I can highly recommend the Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet.
It gave me a 30C improvement on my XFX 7900XTX.
The gcd-hotspot does not exceed 75C max. even under full load for hours and the gpu-edge does not exceed 55C max. either.
The pad is also maintenance-free as it cannot dry out as it is made of graphene and does not contain any liquid.

Awesome video as always, Fabio! The case is really important. I learned it the hard way. I have a 5800X3D and when I got it it was hitting close to 80-85 degrees in some games. I got worried that my chip was probably faulty. Bought an AIO 360 but it did not help much. Only when I decided to upgrade my old NZXT case I saw a massive difference in temps like around 15 degrees cooler. So now it runs at around 65 in game. I underestimated the case and am sharing this, so you guys might not make the same mistake.

Great video Fabio! Lots of really great tips for newbies and seasoned builders alike!
The only thing I would add is advising people to run their CPU to operating temperature for at least 5 minutes before unseating the cooler and use a gentle side to side motion to loosen it, never yank straight up. That allows the thermal paste to warm up and will make removing the cooler much safer and easier. I accidentally killed my 2700X when I tried removing the cooler and ending up bending the pins because the thermal paste had basically glued the cooler to the CPU. Just want to save any other PC brothers from making the same mistake :)

Fan controller dependent on gpu temperature for three of them.Gelid extrim paste, top model deepcool CPU cooling , XFX merc graphics card, it is quiet, cold but for big money. 🤷🙋 In a two-tower cooling system, the central fan should spin faster to create a vacuum relative to the external one ! It's a good idea to use incense to blow the smoke and check for turbulence, pulling fans are just as important as ventilation.

Good quality case that isn't outrageous in cost is Cooler Master H500. 2 200mm fans in the front move a decent amount of air across it. The top of the case has a removable mesh filter. The case performs well in cooling but I still like block off the top mesh in the front so that it's only open from around the CPU and going back. That way no air leaves the case without moving across the MB. No USB C port on front though. At least it has 4 USB ports on the front.
The TD500 V2 is similar, lower price, 1 USB C (10Gbps) but only 2 USB A ports. Doesn't matter if you don't use them but I put my transceivers for the mouse and keyboard there so I prefer 4 ports.
And then the HAF 500 is out there. Same port config as the TD500 but has the 2 200mm fans like the H500. The CPU clearance is 167mm for the HAF 500 and H500 and 165mm for the TD500.
These Cooler Master cases all work basically the same for their airflow and they rate high in case comparisons but much less cost than the ones that score above them..
The H500 can be picked up at the front of the case because it gives you a handle. Convenient if you have to move the case by hand between different rooms. You can put ANY GPU in the thing.
The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler is about the best dual tower you can get for something below $40 USD and it competes against much more expensive coolers.
The NH-D15 is good but costs a lot of money AND it's very tall and won't fit in most cases if you have tall memory kits. The Peerless Assassin will fit over almost any kit of memory and still fit in a case with 165mm of CPU clearance.
The Scythe Fuma 2 is excellent but because the fans only go up to 1500 RPM so the cooler stays quiet at full speed, I don't like it for CPU that really require high quality cooling, like the 5800X3D.

    • @AncientGameplays

      @kanenas1727 11 місяців тому

What you write is true, the first step I did was,as always,to tighten the screws on the backplate as they were usually a little loose, this card was the cheapest implementation of the 78xt series without meaning that it is of poor quality and I was really surprised by its size,it is 15% smaller than a 6800 powercolor that I had on the PC,the memory reaches 2630 and while I had doubts about the purchase because the Sapphire Nitro+ is the best of the series in terms of silicon but also more expensive,200 euros,in my opinion it was not worth the amount, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised by the challenger at 512 euros and especially after the repaste the core reaches the limits of 2.9 GHz when running games at 1v,and still trying to find her sweet spot, very happy with the purchase.

Nice video as always, I would like to add my experience with my GPU issues with temps.
(I get all my info from HWiFO64 and Rivatuner) So I had/have a 7900XT XFX merc 310 Black. The first one had an issue with the GPU hotspot being 30+c warmer than the regular GPU temp, the GCD was hitting 110c which is the thermal limit. I repasted and repadded (the torn pads only) and it "fixed" it for about 2 months but then the huge delta between the reg temp and hotspot temp came back. I RMA'd it and now I have another (new) one from XFX.
So far with the new card (tested less than a week at writing) my regular GPU temp while drawing 1-150w is around 1-5c the difference of the GCD hotspot (depending on fan speed the regular GPU temp is 60c and the GCD hotspot is around 62c). Drawing max wattage (350w) the delta goes up to 10-15c.
Remember if you have a 7700, 7800, 7900 card you will see (though HWiNFO64) the hotspots of all of your MCDs (cache chiplets) and the GCD (compute chiplet).
So sometimes it pays to really have your attention on your GPU temp to figure out if your GPU is not like it should (watch some reviews from people on youtube about what temps you should expect, it is what I did to find out my temps were WAY out of line). Based off of that you know if should RMA it to try and fix the problem.
AMD should really press the AIBs to have better quality control though.
Edit: all of this was tested with the side panel on and off of my case (normal mid tower with glass side panel) just to make sure it was not an airflow problem.

Besides the ambient room temp, the GPU is the highest temp output part. I like to use an oversized case with 3 big fans in front, aio for cpu on top (either with 3 fans in push config or 6 push pull config, depends on the case size). All vents are correlated with the cpu temp as they ramp up sooner and get the case temp lower faster. With the correct configuration you can get a decent “coolness” to your components, but don’t expect magic to happened, as someone said in the comments, if the room temp is high, the components temp raises exponentially. I managed to get a small ac unit especially to cool the pc and server, that stays in a little room next to the office and the temp is a steady 22c.

How to keep temps down on your 8+ core Zen 3 CPU. Use a dual tower air cooler or AIO. If that's not good enough and you're not OCing the CPU, either your ambient air temp is high or the CPU is unfortunately not a better quality one.
In building many Zen 3 based systems in a room that's about 75 degrees F I can generally keep the better 5800X3D parts around 70C running all-core. The ones that aren't as good quality run closer to 80C. I had 2 that red lined at 90C over different sensors. One of those got RMA'd through AMD and BOY do they not like to admit the CPU is an issue and my documentation on the bad CPU was very detailed. I had to deal with doing a return 2 different times so lots of wasted hours dealing with them. For the other 5800X3D I bought it at at Micro Center and I had a debate with the store manager over it, but their return policy doesn't exclude CPUs and once again I showed the evidence of the part getting up to 90C over multiple sensors and showed a typical 5800X3D.
It's hard for these companies to deny red lines are bad, but they'll still try.
For other 8 core parts, I rarely see them run above 70C unless I give them a slight OC. Once again if they run over 80C, it's not better die and you're stuck with it.
It's EASY to work with the 6 core parts. You can buy a 5600, put a 200MHz OC on it via Adrenaline (this adjusts the BIOS, it's not software tweaking which is why you have to reboot the system), and it runs like a 5600X, and STILL has temps around 70C. AND you can use single tower coolers on the 6 core parts WITH an OC AND running 3600 16-18-18-38 memory.
With the 5800X and 5800X3D temps go up when running 3600 memory. With the 5700X it's easy to run 3600 memory.
It's easy to run 3600 memory with the 6 core parts.
It's also surprisingly easy to cool a 5950X and 5900X with a dual tower running 3600 CL16 memory. I wouldn't try to OC those though because they already push high clocks for Zen 3 parts. I don't like the temps going above 80C although if I can give a 200MHz boost and all-core puts me at 81 - 82C I'll go with it.
The only Zen 3 parts I've had to replace were 5800X3D. That's a problem part obviously. Out of 9 that I bought, two had to be replaced. That sucks.
Everything I said above for temps is ALL-CORE, NOT gaming. It's much easier to keep temps lower than what I said in gaming loads. If you have a problem with temps for the CPU during gaming you have a serious issue or ambient air temp is too high.
I have two of those 5800X3D based Zen 3 systems on X570S MBs and 32GB 14-14-14-34 G. Skill memory. There's no need to push to 3600 for gaming since it does little in most games if anything, and the lower latency gives a little boost in fps. It also affects the temp of the 5800X3D and 5800X more than the other parts. The other systems were sold. The CPUs I kept scored over 5600 in Cinebench R20, where the typical score in the range of 5500 - 5560.

You do sound like you know what you are doing! You never mentioned undervolting, this made a significant difference to my 5800X3D. It ran way too hot at first so undervolted by 3mV and improved the case fan ventilation a lot (3 -> 7 fans). Now at 100% performance in Cyberpunk at 1440p it never exceeds like 62 deg C. If the room warms up a bit sometimes might creep a degree or 2 higher. I think I was lucky in the silicon lottery with mine.

      @johndoh5182 11 місяців тому +2

@@AncientGameplays Any gen4 NVMe that's worth a crap runs fast and needs a cooler on it. You get into problems because SOME AMD based systems have the first NVMe port below the GPU, and it's ALSO the one that connects to the CPU which is the optimal to use for the OS/programs and some games as in the newer ones that have higher demands.
An NVMe in that spot should have a heatsink regardless. You either get a lack of airflow there when the GPU is doing little work, or when gaming and the GPU heats up you get warm air pushed at it.
And I'm pretty sure the same would be true for Intel based systems where that first NVMe connects to the CPU.
There are some MBs where the NVMe port is above the GPU slot. I like that config but unfortunately the MBs I like the best have the PCIe X16 slot closest to the CPU so the first NVMe is below the GPU. For instance the Gigabyte X570S Aorus Elite/Elite AX boards do EXACTLY what I expect them to do and the other PCIe slots on them all connect to the chipset. It means that the one X16 slot gets the full attention of the CPU, you can't run an X8-X8 config, but I use one GPU so I don't care.
I know there's a lack of games that use Microsoft DirectStorage right now but that will change and the work load on the NVMe during game play will increase.
Because I want certain games to have very fast disk access (newer games like 2021 and newer) AND because my system requires one disk goes under the GPU, I use the 2nd NVMe port that isn't buried under the GPU to load those games on so it's not as bad for heat. I'd use the third port that's the furthest from the GPU for games but I do dual OS and that has Linux on it. The 2nd port has a WD SN850X and yes they're fast.

The NV1 without heatsink was doing 45 Celsius. And it was throttling. There were spikes in games.
      I play competitively ... so ... that's a problem for me ...
The 970 Evo was at 55 without heatsink. Also. Very bad experience. Much throttle.
With heatsink (5 bucks, cheappo stuff):
NV1 is at 37 and 970Evo is at 42. No more throttling. Everything runs smooth AF.
All temps are in gaming situations. Not full workloads, where you stress-test it by copying hundreds of GB of files to it.
The whole thing is subjective. My mom for instance doesn't have a heatsink on her SSD, but she's 65 and doesn't game. And especially not competitively. For her, it runs just fine.

Idk that cpu, but reset your bios, see what frequency and voltage it runs at while in cinebench (should be about 1.3V and around 4800mhz), then set that voltage/freq combination in ryzen master. Then slowly lower the voltage by tiny amounts (ryzen master defaults to 0.00625 per tick, do that), test r23 after each adjustment. Then once it crashes, just go up one more and you should have a good undervolt. Once you get the right adjustment in ryzen master, apply that in your bios.
For reference, mine is 4300@1.1125 5900x and it doesnt go over 40-45 in games or 75 in cinebench. Small air cooler.

Hey Ancient, why my new Ryzen 5 5600 doesn't automatically use its boost clock feature (4.4ghz) when testing Cinebench? HWInfo shows that all cores are @3.5ghz (base clock) on 100% load.
I needed OC manually it to 4.35ghz, but I want max performance, of course, for gaming. I can't manually OC it to boost clock because it somehow start eat Volts, and I get really high temps (over 100C on prime95 small test, and the pc shut down, this happened with 1.35V) with the Volts the processor needs to be running 4.4ghz - 4.5ghz (Cooler Master Evo 212, air flow). Should I try Curve Optimizer OC option?
Another question is: Do I get significant benefit to gaming if I get new motherboard that supports the SAM (Smart Access Memory) feature? My Mobo currently is Asus Prime B350-Plus (from year 2017).

Hey, firstly in high loads those CPUs will never be at 4.4GHz, those frequencies are for lower loads where maybe 3 or 4 cores push those values (at max), the usual would be around 4.2GHz. If it is still at base, it means your mobo isn't pushing PBO and speed steps
