  • Welcome to the Daimler Ferret Scout Car Channel! - In this tank workshop diary video, you can watch along as i strip down one of the front wheel stations on my 1959 Daimler Ferret Scout Car. The oil seals need replacing and this is the first stage in the disassembly required to complete this job. The Ferret has Epicyclic reduction hubs which reduce the torque on
    the transmission driveline whilst still providing the power for a permanent four-wheel drive system.

    You can support this channel by sourcing parts for this job and other Daimler Ferret Spares from me at www.FerretSpares.com

    Interesting! Would love to see more Ferret servicing in details. Are these planetary gear sets on wheels used to increase torque to the wheels. So axels don't break, truck climbs better on uphill etc.

    Great video. Fantastic engineering in those hubs. I did notice someone installed the safety wires incorrectly, just nit picking. lol

      Most people seem to replace the nuts with nylocs so they don't have to rewire.

    Nice, i want a ferret.
    A small tip for you. If you dismantle a speaker and keep the ring magnet, you can put the magnet over your planet gear and keep the needle bearings safe from dropping all around.

    I wonder how difficult it'd be to convert the drive train to electric

    I don't have a ferret (yet 😁) so this is just idol curiosity but can you still get brake shoes for a ferret I wouldn't know where to start. Great video it was very informative

      Lots of parts are still available, the previous owner of my ferret had the brake shoes re-lined. It's pretty easy on the brakes in my experience, but then i don't do a lot of miles in it!

    Isn’t the “D” washer a tab washer that should have been tabbed over to prevent the centre nut coming loose?

    • @daimlerferretscoutcar
      @daimlerferretscoutcar  4 роки тому

      Hi Andrew, Yes I think you are right that it should be tabbed over to stop the Center nut from spinning, I think mine might have been reused as it wasn’t in a good state.

    When u remove the plus from the outside, than i can fill it, but how much is going in it.

      You should drive the vehicle until the plug on the outer hub is at the 10 or 2 o clock position. Remove the plug and It should then be filled with EP90 gear oil until it reaches the level of the plug hole.
