    I've had the Reference Cinemas in my room for just about a year now and they're just incredible. End game. Hit all the big rooms at CEDIA and came home feeling very satisfied with what I already own. No FOMO.

      Yeah Wayne spent a few days at my place and headed directly to Cedia and felt the same way. His top room was the Grimani room and he felt mine fit right with it above the Alcon and other rooms. I wish I could have made it this year.

    Hi ....great video !!! How far its true that reference SPL standard changes with room size ? Some people say 105db is not fixed for all room sizes. What is the authentic website or document to see the SPL levels.

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  Рік тому +1

      It's normally 105 peak for each speaker. I've seen some argue room size can make us perceive spl differently but the proper calibration is 105 for speakers and 115 for subs with a tolerance that allows it to be up to 6 db less. In reality crank it till you're happy and don't get too hung up on it. Mixes unfortunately aren't always delivered at the same levels anyways but this is due to the studio pdf specing a tolerance for calibration between 79-85dbc so their playback spl is no locked in.

    You don't like hard to drive mega dampened retail fancy cabinet speakers like B&W? They make a cinema series too.

      I can get them shipped anywhere. Many of my room design clients are overseas and Next Level has confirmed they can handle any of my clients, even overseas clients.

    I can listen to most horns. Metal tweeters are no. I prefer silk soft dome. It's getting harder to find soft dome tweeter speakers, seems most have moved on to metal. I've heard one ribbon tweeter that was a little to bright.

      I bet you'd love these. Also keep in mind room tuning is huge and all speakers and all rooms should be tuned. Too bright could simply be a very wide dispersion that has more reflected energy than a narrow dispersion speaker. It may not even be in the actual speaker response. Room tuning will take care of these issues.

    Whoa whoa whoa .... N.L.A better than JBL Synthesis? I highly doubt that. I'll give it a listen if i can find them.

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  Рік тому +2

      They're all just speakers so yeah one can have advantages over others.
      The Synth are great but not my favorite to design with.
      The NLA are far more sensitive than comparably priced Synth (synth are not really sensitive) and having options other than inwalls they offer far more flexibility in design. I know I know everyone is brain washed to think something like Synthesis can't be beat but I really don't enjoy designing with them as I find we have to compromise. You can have an amazing speaker but if you're forced to say mount a main flat in a wall with no toe in well with a 40 degree (80 total) wide guide every seat will sound different with opposite seats at or past the guide. On top of that they're a narrow/medium dispersion losing 6db at the edge of the guide so to really sound great they need toe in as do most speakers.
      Setup is everything. At Cedia this year, everyone I personally know that heard the rooms put the JBL room toward the bottom, not because they're bad but the setup was lacking and hurt the sound compared to other rooms. JBL makes great speakers.

      Jeff Meier of AccuCal said the same thing about the NextLevel Reference Series. I have them in my room as well, and they're absolutely a great speaker.

    You mention this sounds smooth as a dome tweeter. Does it really sound good even for critical music listening?(compared to hifi speakers of its price range)
    And how would it compare to cinema speakers like qsc 1120?

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  Рік тому

      Both Wayne and I were listening very closely for any sound of harshness and found zero. They are extremely smooth. We demoed movie clips and music and they performed fantastic. As for the 1120, I've not heard those but have owned the 2150s. They are smoother than the 2150 which could get harsh slightly off vertical axis.

      @@hometheatergurus that's very good to know. This speaker size and specs looks very impressive and would fit in any theatre.
      How do these small lcr's like these (next level,triad etc) compared to big cinema speakers like qsc 2150 or similar jbl models for home theatres?

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  Рік тому

      I've owned a handful of cinema speakers like the 2150 and have clients that have owned some , one having owned the 4722 with be mod. The Triad Gold and NLA would be my choice by far and that client has the Gold LCR currently and has also had HDI3800, JTR and some others and feels his theater has never sounded better. Now that is also due to my room design and proper placement. He nor I listen at reference though. A fantastic speaker that's too large to be properly integrated into the design will get beat by a lesser speaker. The NLA of course have the output to far exceed reference in home theater sized rooms where the gold LCR can hit reference in many rooms but the NLA is 6db more sensitive which is light years louder per watt. And that's not even getting into the quad woofer version.

      I believe he is talking about my room, which if he isn't, I went down this same path. The Triad Golds, in well designed room, are hard to beat in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised how dynamic they are, especially for my listening levels. My ears will quit before the speakers would. Most likely you can't go wrong with either option. If Steven is taking them on as a product line, then that should tell you something. Also. I will add that this is the best sounding room I have ever had and it is due to how well it was designed. I followed his plans exactly as he had them laid out and the final product is going to be enjoyed for many years.
