I watched a video a long time ago where keratin was used on the young lady’s hair at a salon. When she washed her hair, it wouldn’t revert. She learned that keratin takes a while to wash out because the keratin in your hair has bonded with the keratin in the product (which is what makes the straight hair last longer). Also, she had to use a sulfate shampoo to help wash the keratin out faster.
So try a sulfate shampoo for a few washes and see if that helps. If not, I’m sure you’ll figure out how best to proceed. Good luck!

Dottie H. Good idea. I think clarifying her hair and conditioning again would give her an idea of what she's working with.

I do hope so, but I washed my hair twice. Once with head and shoulders the next with dish soap I was that desperate to strip my hair but hopefully as you say with more washes some pattern can come back x

I'm so sorry about your heat damage, but it's called a hair journey for a reason! We learn from our setbacks as we try to figure out what's best for our strands. I found your videos while researching emu oil, and I've been binging on your content pretty much all day on this rainy Sunday. You have such a lovely spirit, so don't let this hiccup upset you too much. Give the keratin time to work it's way out of your hair, it will be back to normal soon.

I got heat damage from a rubbish heat protectant too. The burnt smell will go away in a couple weeks. Weekly protein treatments and bi weakly cowashes will do you and your hair a lot of good. Unfortunately you can't get your curl pattern back but the constant protein treatments and deep conditioning will help your curls at least somewhat come back. I'm sorry this happened to you 💖. I transitioned and big chopped at 6 months so if I can do it, you can do it too. I'm routing for you Zig!!! You will overcome this! 😊

you could restart your growth journey with a shorter cut, though i know that has to be such a discouragement. i'm just thinking that managing all the different textures may be more trouble than its worth (though, that thought usually comes after the cut, doesn't it -- pre-cut, it feels like very much worth the trouble 😂) whatever you decide, i'm wishing you the best of luck!!

How sad. I'm so sorry you've had this happen to you. Hard as it is hair does grow back and you take such good care of your hair. Do your treatments and trim as you go (a little at a time). it will be okay!

I feel your pain sis. I know this wasn't easy for you to record. Don't beat yourself up, just consider it a lesson learned and like you said "move on". It's gonna be ok. You're gorg no matter how long (or short) your hair is. Blessings!

I appreciate your honesty and know how you feel. I did the same thing a few months ago and will never straighten my hair again! Olaplex has helped bring my curl back a little, but the front of my hair is still bone straight, so I braid it up like you do. I'm interested in seeing your new journey. I think it would be inspiring to bounce back from a setback.

Don’t cut it all off. Trim your ends and then deep condition. I was able to really bring moisture back to my hair was by my deep conditioning with any deep condition with olive oil put a cap on and use a blow dryer to add heat on the cap. My hair has really turned around.

choco milk oh no, you only apply the heat on the bag over your hair not directly on your hair. The heat will create steam.

I just wanted to say I'm so sorry. I completely understand back in October I got my hair professional straightened and as soon as I washed it my hair looked exactly like yours. The burnt smell your smelling will go away after a few washes. My hair is doing a lot better now just do weekly protein treatments and protective styling. After a couple of months your hair will regain its fullness. I wish you the best of luck and hope your hair can revert back to its prior state of healthiness.

I actually bought that John frena spray and I returned it. I just used it to blow dry my hair and after I was done my hair started smelling like raw fish...I had to wash my hair with shampoo twice. I think you would look amazing with a short cut 😊

With products like that you have to use a clarifying shampoo to strip everything out. My hair does this when I blow mine straight for braiding. Keratin is the devil when you add heat to it. Condition and protective styling it until your hair bounces back. You didn’t ruin your hair you don’t have to go back to step one. I was raised around a beautician and all she did was natural hair.

It happens, I straighten my hair last year and I kept doing it because I thought my hair could take it! After I would wash it, I liked the curl because it was loser and everything, well after a few months, my hair lost its length, feel, and just fell out. I was devastated, because I felt so horrible and stupid and I wish I had this video at the time, because I thought all was lost but it wasn’t, like you said my hair journey changed, and now I’m getting it back to a healthy state! Keep positive! ❤️

Dont feel bad I did the exact same thing after the beautiful textures treatment came out. It ruined my hair but others thought my hair looked good. My actually started shedding badly after using it. I did protective style for over a year and then I trimmed my hair. Be careful of anything that calls itself a smoothing treatment, or anything that "activates with heat"!

  • @HerSassyAF

You are sooooooo beautiful😍💜 I was listening to you, but all I kept thinking was, "Her beauty is so natural and ridiculous!!!"💜 with that said, I've been there with the heat damage as well. I straightened my hair for my son's graduation and it was my first time using heat in 3 yrs!!!! My hair was so flat and thin and the texture was different all over, it broke my heart. I spent so much money on all kinds of protein treatments and heat damage miracles and nothing worked😩. I ended up big chopping and starting all over again. I think you should still post your videos for healthy foods and vitamins tho. It isn't fraudulent if those are things that you do on a daily basis, besides, they will be helpful in your continued journey to healthy hair. I'm so sorry your hair got damaged☹ but as you're going thru this it will also be helpful for those in your same situation. XOXO

I am very interested bc I just went through the same thing. I went to a TRUSTED HAIRSTYLIST. I got so upset when my hair was wet bc my hair had the burnt smell as well. My hair is slow growing and I can’t stand the idea of cutting it. I guess transitioning is my only option.....

If you used the John Frieda Frizz Free 3 day Straight Flat Iron Spray one of the ingredients is sodium hydroxide which is lye and caustic soda so yes it is used as a relaxer. The heat might have factor in but it was probably the lye that caused your hair to lose its pattern.I hope this helps in finding a solution for your hair. I wish you the best in your hair journey.

Keep calm and carry on. I love your energy and hate to see you so demoralized. I haven't seen your videos in a long while, and had you not said anything, I wouldn't have known your hair, in the dry style, was damaged. I say don't big chop. See what happens. Grow it out. Treat it well with natural products. Check out 22nd Century Natural Woman's videos. Her shampoo bars are nice, or use black soap or other less processed shampoo bars. Stick with nature when possible, such as using water, glycerin, and AVJ mixes to moisturize and oils and butters to seal. Try to avoid commercial products and maybe your hair health will return (and the bad chemical smell will dissipate!). Good luck, lady.

hey Zig Beswick, something similar happened to me... I have you ever tried to wash your hair with neutralizer shampoo to get rid of the remaining chemical that could be present on your her. I used the shampoo when I noticed it had a chemical horrible smell after receiving a Dominican blowout. It got rid of the remaining chemicals and the smell... I hope this helps.

It was the Keratin. You'll have to shampoo with Sulfate shampoo, do a couple more light protein treatments ( like a reconstructor) and deep condition. It will bring it back a lot more. Keratin takes a while to get out of your hair. It's a process. I think most of it will come back and you won't have to cute much at all. Best of luck to you and I still want to see any and all videos you have for us. I'm right here to go through it with you. You have all of our support!
