DIY- How to Match Knockdown texture with the Knockdown Texture Sponge
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- In this video I'll be demonstrating how to apply all purpose joint compound with a Knockdown Texture Sponge on a vaulted ceiling repair. The ceiling repair is the whole 36' paper tape joint right at the vault of the open plan ceiling. I must say this knockdown texture sponge works great for matching and blending the knockdown texture. I've been using one for a several years now and they work great for tape joint repairs and small drywall repairs

Paul Peck Are you just using drywall mud in your pan?
Well done. I can tape rock with the best of them on a smooth surface but never worked with knockdown. Good instructions on how to deal with it.
@Paul peck drywalltube
New to hanging drywall and textures. Question ??? Can you put paint or kilz in your mudding mixture for thinning it out to roll on the ceiling so you don't have to go back and paint it later.
Thanks in advance
Your Video saved my Butt !! I had a tree go thru my roof and I had to replace about 75 sq. ft. of sheetrock. Sadly no insurance so this was all on my dime, im a welder and not savvy with house projects, well lets just say I had to learn. Everything turned out great, I really appreciate this video, same texture as my house and I figured it out with your help and this sponge. I sincerely Thank You ...
I've been in home remodeling for years, and that's a wonderful technique for duplicating a knockdown texture without having to break out a hopper. 👌🏻
Thank you Papa Joe! I'm telling ya... For small knockdown texture repairs the knockdown texture sponge can blend the texture into the existing so much better than a hopper or texture rig. I've always got my knockdown texture orange peel texture sponges in my drywall repair bag for sure! Thanks for stopping by, -Paul
I ordered the sponge and Lexan tool to drag the knock down texture and used your techniques and it worked like a charm.
I have been doing renovations for a long time but have never been real good at matching texture till now.
This idea works great for small repairs where you don’t want to skim coat the entire area and retexture
Thanks to for making this video
and to everyone for the comments. I’ve got a few holes to patch up in my home. Been putting it off because of the “ texture challenge “. Gotta get me that sponge.
Thank you for this very helpful video. I'm definitely going to try this method. I hate textured walls. They're such a pain to re-texture. After our bathroom renovation, we filled and smoothed the walls using joint compound. The smooth walls look awesome! I wish I could remove the texture from all the walls in the house but that would be too labor-intensive. Your method of repair is much appreciated.
Glad you found my video helpful KAM!👍🏻 Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😎 -Paul
I was thinking I was going have to have a new drywall ceiling installed, now to find someone like you who knows what they're doing.
Right on Frank!👍 Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!😎 -Paul
Wow you ansered. I am retired painter by profession but do alot of remolading. People found out what I know and brought me out of retirement to flip houses. Great fun and keeps me in shape at 59. Thank you for your support.
That's awesome Lee! Sounds like you're loving every minute of it too.👍 Flips are nice cause you're always doing something different. Thanks for stopping back by! -Paul
I'm glad I saw this, we bought this house that clearly has a do-it-yourself knock down attempt, looks like some tiny pieces of pasta was thrown at the ceiling and walls. Now I see I can do this and fix it. Thank you!!!
Man, I am a DIY everything guy. i have fiddle around with different methods of applying repair knockdown, but I will say….. you are the man! That is the absolute cleanest application of repair knockdown I have seen to date. Homax and their overpriced rattle can spray texture will never again be in my hands again! I truly wanna thank you for your video. Oh, you know I subscribed to your channel, can’t wait to see your other videos when time affords me.
Thanks Paul! Have used this a few times in the past year. We do decorative wall finishes and sometimes our job is held up waiting on a small repair. I knocked them out so we could get started, my wife already had a sponge in her faux finish arsenal. Thanks for the tips over the years.
That’s awesome Mike!💥👊🏻 It’s great technique for matching knockdown texture on small wall and ceiling repairs for sure! I really appreciate your feedback man. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!😎 -Paul
This was helpful you make it look easy instead of spraying a ceiling. Thanks.
Looks great!!! Just what I needed. I tore out and replaced my bathroom vanity. Now I need to repair the walls before I paint and install the backsplash. This video seems to be the lifesaver I was looking for. Thanks Paul!!
That's great Yousir! I'm glad my knockdown texture sponge video could help you out on your bathroom remodel. Let me know if you run into any questions along the way. -Paul
Wow been a painter for 18yrs+ I wish my dad was alive to see how you did this repair we always used a hopper to remake the down texture what a quick repair and easier and cleaner this is
Thank man I knew I was doing something wrong I do maintenance for a hotel I've been doing drywall 4 a long time but never dealt with knock down my repairs have gotten better over time but still not happy with the results now that I know how to do it the right way I'm looking 4word to c how it comes out i was doing my texture and then sanding or taking a wet rag to try to take the tops off but makes a lot more sense now that I c how it's done the correct way thanks again it really is an art
Thanks for this video I have 2 places to do on my basement ceiling and now I can do the texture knockdown correctly
Best way to do it. Especially on small jobs. Just remod my bathroom walls. Thanks for the vid!!
Nice video. Having done a LOT of repairs working in apartment maintenance, trying to match texture was one of the hardest things to do. I found that matching a knock down that was previous painted with several coats required a light wipe down after the knock down with a damp cloth when the repair was almost completely dry. This took the hard edges off and matched the older painted texture better. Also I found that the canned texture didnt match any texture very well. I found that using a texture gun would do a MUCH better job applying mud to use in matching any texture.
I'm a DIYer. Thanks, so much for the great tips and demo!
I really appreciate your feedback June!👍🏻 Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!😎 -Paul

hi new friend here from Bali watching you how to match knockdown texture with wohoho you make it good job thanks for sharing see u
Paul, I am renovating my husbands inherited home. Let"s just say his master degree brothers convinced them to by a home for $90.000 and when I started tearing down walls and cabinets, found out that it was originally a 4 room coal miner shack! They had rebuilt around it in 1950! The only way I knew that it was a older home was because of the bathroom. I had to go all the way down to the floor joists to put in a new floor. To my surprise, the floor was laid not straight but diagonally! I was raised in Quincy, Illinois where there are lots of homes that predate 1930! So, I knew then that my husband had been taken for a ride by his own family! IMAGINE! Here is my question: I had a guy patch up some drywall holes, that I thought I couldn"t do. He supposedly does this for a living. I have done everything to a house from roofing, painting, wall papering, even re-done hardwood floors! the patch he put on my living room ceiling has so many mud grooves , that I know its going to cause a damn mess! What can I do to take out the grooves and then do the job myself! I have been waiting on him for 4 weeks to come and finish the job! I believe I have given him his time due!!!! I have scraped the popcorn off all the ceilings, and painted the rooms , plus ship-Lapped a wall, so I think I can repair sheet rock! Can you help me, PLEASE!!!!
Thank you!
Your demonstration and concise explanation is very educational.
Bad ass repair Paul!! Nice work!

Went great, after the 1st day I noticed some edges were showing in some places. I went back adding more texture and faded it out from the center looks much better. Great technique Thanks. That Lexan works great to you can see the texture as you pull it across. Flat paint tomorrow and done!

My son just bought a house and it’s in desperate need of updating. Popcorn ceilings, panel walls in the bathroom. I think we’re gonna skim the bathroom over all the glue swirls and scrape off popcorn in house and replace with knockdown. Love your videos! Wouldn’t attempt without this instruction! After testing popcorn ceiling and scraping it off, should I skim coat? Thank you
