I used this technique on my Laundry Room ceiling. After painting you had to know it was there in order to spot the patch. Worked well and looked great.
Thank you Paul. I watched your video and followed as best I could on a budget and with a partially bum right arm. I did my first ever knockdown texture today and it doesn't look too bad. I appreciate you explaining clearly even to my level of knowledge in joint compound and texture.

Before you knock it down, would that be the proper way to do the ceilings if they look like that? I can’t find a video on when it looks like it was just sprayed on and left alone.
I did the whole back room of my house using this technique. I thought I was being really crafty. It's nice knowing that it's kind of the industry-standard. It looks great.
Omg! All I could say is you rule! This is by far the easiest and most inexpensive way to repair a knockdown ceiling you just saved me so much money I was getting ready to go out and buy a hopper gone that would be such a waste of money because I’ll never use it after this repair is done you’re the best!!!!
I only wish more people would do videos in the format that you have yours is completely explain from beginning to end thorough as thorough could be there’s no question about what the result is as long as the person that’s doing the job is following it the way you do it and again I’m truly grateful you just taught me something that I thought I had figured out already put an easier way to do it and save me money so thank you again and God bless you
What I learned from this video got me a job to patch a knockdown if you were going to do a patch that’s about 2 ft.² how much would you charge your customer without doing a skim coat just blending it in?
Just incurred some ceiling damage due to a leak caused by hurricane Milton. Along a joint similar to this. Have minimal experience with texturing. I like your method. Will save this video and refer to it once ready for the work. Thanks
Thank you for the recommendation on the sponge and the great tutorial! I successfully followed your lead on a fairly large spot on my ceiling. I did not have a large knife like yours but I was able to use a similar sized scrap of plexiglass with a straight edge. Thanks again!

Hi, great video! I really appreciate you showing how to do a repair like this. I have a ceiling with a similar problem. Just moved to Florida, the whole house is a knockdown finish. I have no problem doing regular drywall repair and finishing. But I am unfamiliar with the knockdown finish process. After watching your excellent video, I feel like I can give it a shot. Thanks
Hey Paul, nice job on blending the new texture into the old. I'm going to be texturing the ceiling in my living room after removing the popcorn ceiling, thanks for the tips on how it's done.!
I’m glad your making an effort to match the texture of the ceiling. I have wood chip wallpaper and a line of uneven filler across the ceiling. I’m sure even your talents couldn’t match that.
This is a good informative video! If you don't want to go thru thinning down regular joint compound, there are premixed texture compounds available or dry powders to mix. You may consider using texture compound as the knock-down finish will match the existing texture better.
Its not overly difficult, but it takes a good eye to match as close as possible previous texture. Knockdown however, is much simpler to match than an orange peel texture. Not to belittle his work in any way mind you. Everything in the trades takes some amount of time to do it right and make it look good
Giving the owner the option is the way too go ,as most people don't know that texture over drywall is done with a commercial spray rig, So getting it too match 💯 percent is almost impossible, but it can be very close, looks good👍
So I sprayed joint compound on my walls for the first time. I knocked the joint compound down with wide plastic blade. But as I was gliding on the wall. My blade was grabbing chunks and dry joint compound. And I made streaks throughout my whole wall.
I used to use crumpled paper but then I found a crumpled safeway bag worked way better to get the stipple effect. or drag it to knock down rock down the texture
My texture looks like that, only the knock down part looks like they’re a little larger in my ceiling. Real close. We remodeled our master bath and around the edge of part of the ceiling. This helps. Thanks
Honestly I'm looking for a method without the sponge and lexan for a tiny area where my old tstat was. However, I have to watch this whole thing based on that tape removal alone :)
Very very good…. I’ve seen other videos and I’ve tried it with a 6 inch stainless steel blade….. very. Bad ,the way you did this is so great I need to get that big plastic knife as well
when im matching a knock down i always go about 6in to a foot out into existing knock down or Texture just helps alot to hide that one little area try it you will b happy with it but do not do entire area where old texture is just sporadic to keep eyes guessing

I have tried multiple times to match knockdown with a sponge and it always stands out. Next I will try a pneumatic hopper (air gun) to spray it on.
