Disney+ is Bringing Back TV Channels
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 кві 2024
- Disney has a new strategy for Disney+ that actually isn't so new at all: introducing TV channels for their streaming service. Similar to cable TV, their channels would be dedicated to certain topics or franchises like Marvel, Pixar, or animated Disney movies. Why are they repeating history?

A hand rises from the grave of cable TV...
ill take the hand out and watch
do what know what channels disney is bringing back and when?
With all the streaming services out now, we basically have cable 2. Expensive and paid for monthly.
They say “Cable is dead”
Well I say “NO‼️ Streaming services should be DEAD‼️”
And through my back like a knife
"Eventually, streaming will get so complicated, that both companies and consumers will find it more simple to go back to scheduled programming"
- Me, when I called it a few years ago.
it's only getting so complicated because they're trying to squeeze more money than streaming is worth
‘Life goes full circle’ just took a whole new meaning
Same I called this crap like 5 years ago just before the pandemic hit and I was telling people that we are gonna circle back around to traditional TV with On Demand as a side option just like how Old Cable and Satellite TV was back in the 2000s. Looks like it's happening and people who at first thought I was just old man yell at cloud is seeing that I and many others were right.
I don't miss scheduled programming at all, how hard is it to just select a show? Even back when I had cables I preferred to DVR stuff
@@mattwolf7698 My mother used to recorded so many Disney Channel shows way back in a day in Dish Network! for me to watch! even record Power Rangers!

They’re just doing whatever they can to not have to admit that Disney+ is a failure. It has already brought them BILLIONS into the hole.

no, you still pay for disney+
I would definitely watch a 24/7 Phineas and Ferb Channel.
Same, I would watch every single Phineas and Ferb series
With there being a season 5 and 6 coming, 24/7 Phineas and Ferb is 100% happening lol
I Definitely would too maybe Disney's one Saturday morning could Definitely be a possible channel that shows all the classic Disney animated shows like toon disney did
Wouldn't that just be normal streaming? I think the point behind this is that you can have the service play different stuff without you having to decide on the specifics.

Disney Plus is gonna have cable tv
They're not the only streaming service that's put out a TV channel within the streaming channel. Criterion Channel has one of these, but it's just one, showing all your Criterion favorites such as Chungking Express and Modern Times. The downside is that you can't rewind it or check what movie is currently playing so good luck if you catch a movie halfway.
Maybe we'll get a TV guide channel like back in the day. That crawl felt so slow

Yeah also Pluto's entire business is built around this, there's also Peacock, Tubi, and Paramount+ with this feature

@@dylansharp8471 you can open Disney plus and not be like “I don’t know what to watch”
Exactly. That's what I miss about cable. It's much easier to discover new shows, because you're kinda "forced" to give it a chance when you want to watch something from that channel. I watched and loved a lot of shows that I otherwise wouldn't have given a chance had it not come up on Disney channel/cartoon network, or nick while I was watching TV and just wanted to see whatever show would come up.
So pluto for old disney shows? You know, i see absolutely this as an absolute win.

streaming : you are Dead cable
cable: you can kill me but death is just a doorway, time is just a window I,ll be back
few years later
cable : I am back hahahahaha.
This sign is a reminder to exactly what I have been worried about in regards to the future of streaming, that if things were left unchecked they would end up becoming the new cable, and there is a reason no one wanted to touch cable anymore. Now you have way too many streaming/subscription services out there vying for your time because companies can't help themselves by being so selfish and want a bigger slice of the pie instead of keeping it simple. Now prices and terms for services are getting more ridiculous and new ideas and finished works will never see the light of day because they became a tax write off or some other nonsense. Won't be long, if not already, before bundles for streaming services start popping up in addition to these services no longer sharing their Ip's with other services just so they can desperately keep people subscribed to them. If we don't nip this in the butt legally soon, the future of entertainment as we know it won't be so bright.
THIS IS ARMAGEDDON. WE MUST NOT LET HISTORY REPEAT!!
bundles for streaming services already exist
I don't blame companies for doing what they did. Can you blame them for wanting to make money? It's their job. I blame however the consumer who encouraged this behavior. There was no pushback, people took what they offerred, and no one is doing anything about it. I can sleep easily though knowing that I was never a part of this mess. I never had Netflix or any other streaming service to begin with. I buy my movies and shows on disc..... so pffft....
If Disney are gonna bring back TV Channels ‘IN THE UK’, then they better bring back Disney Cinemagic! That channel was the only channel that brought the Disney Magic in our childhood lives…especially with watching Disney films and TV Shows! Like Aladdin, House Of Mouse, Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan, etc.
Here in the UK, Cinemagic was only the Disney channel that showed all Disney movies including Disney movies that had flopped and that have premiered on Cinemagic.
Adding to that, Disney should really bring back Playhouse Disney…fuck Disney Junior.

I love typical TV. Yeah it has ads, but it feels so much better to tune in and just, by chance, watch an episode you've seen already, wouldn't have looked up by your self, but I mean, now it's on, why not just watch it?
That’s why people got away from cable.
Having to pay for entire packages just for a few channels, and you don’t have a say in what’s on it.
Paramount+ already did the same thing, but I like that Disney+ is still keeping cable TV alive in a way. Stop watching cable TV is like letting go of a treasured childhood toy. You don't really use it anymore, but it still gave you plenty of good memories and you still don't want to see it go. I might put on a channel or two as background noise once I move into my new house.
Every now and again, Disney does something smart. It’s like experiencing a blue moon.
Yeah right? It's almost uncanny hearing about Disney NOT shooting themselves with a decision

As someone who was a kid in the 80s and growing up in the 90s through 2000s there's something about justing being able to turn the tv on and have stuff playing automatically and for someone like me I often times just likes something on in the background. You're also more likely to maybe end up watching something you might like that otherwise might not choose. My mom's really like this. She'd prefer finding something airing on tv like old times rather than spend time looking through a streaming service so it goes to show that there are still people like that.

@@mattwolf7698This.
This is what turned people away from cable, the fact that the ads were constant and could last minutes.
@@mattwolf7698 The ads on cable were somehow better, probably because there was more pressure to make them interesting, since channels needed to try to keep people's attention for five whole minutes. The ones you see on streaming services are so bland and boring, because streaming services know that they don't need to make them that good, because the people watching only have to sit and watch for like 10-30 seconds.
Man they better bring back Playhouse Disney
Ngl it’s pretty cool to have any channel you can put on the background while doing anything, so you can have kinda a distraction without it being fully distracting
Exactly
This is perfect. A way to allow people to have their content chose for them. I cannot tell you how many times I couldn't find a single thing to watch on streaming. Just remove the ads, and this will blow up.
Perfect job and incredibly well done for your video 😊
Streaming should add a shuffle mode so it'll play shows and movies in a random order

@@Shantae-June22002 Warner Bros. has shown that any pro consumer idea gets terminated. It's clear that they hate us 🥲
GREAT IDEA!
I, for one, miss regular cable. I don't have it anymore because of its insane pricing. On top of that, channels like Cartoon Network, Nickolodeon, and Disney Channel don't even have decent and unique shows anymore, at least for the most part. Even if it was an era of reruns, there was just something Ioved about just having something to watch in the background while I was doing other things instead of having to sit in silence wondering what to watch. On Demand used to be special, but not anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love streaming, but it should have stayed as special as Comcast On Demand was, leaving cable fairly priced, so live TV wouldn't be on death row. And no, UA-cam TV doesn't count. That's another story altogether.
How is Comcast On Demand now?

The main problem I had with streaming was that I had a hard time choosing an episode to watch so having the service choose it for me is really nice
Yup
Also, you're less likely to step out of your horizon and try out new shows. You just watch the same few shows you always watch, or you only watch shows and movies that are familiar to you because they belong to an already existing and popular franchise. I think this is also part of the reason why original content from Disney doesn't do as well these days and why Disney feels inclined to profit out of nostalgia.
Im inpressed in your videos keep it up
While Disney isn't the first to do the online channels, this sounds like a good idea. With how many series have been made over the years, and how many episodes it had you could make a whole network out of one show. Like on the Free channel app, they have a Power Rangers network. It's good to turn it on and see newer or older seasons. Same with the Crunchyroll channel. While it does show new animes, every now and again, an old anime will come up that I haven't seen for a long time. While I haven't finished one, it's still cool to see old shows getting some spotlight. Disney could do good with this idea.
Imagine a 2000s Disney Channel, so it'd have Suite Life, That's So Raven, Wizards of Waverly Place...
Imagine bringing back Power Rangers on Disney that would be dreams come true! from 14 years back
They should mix it in with the new shows, so people who are watching for the older stuff can discover new shows and people who are watching for the newer stuff can discover older shows. You can have kids today discover Hannah Montana, Lizzie Maguire, and Wizards of Waverly Place, then have adults discover newer shows like Big City Greens or HSMTMTS. Same with DCOM movies. You play something older like High School Musical, then Zombies right after.

How about a tv Channel revival of Classic Toon Disney or The Disney Afternoon and a tv channel for One Saturday Morning shows
It’s like saying that DVD is dead but really, it isn’t. I never believed in those rumours. While Best Buy may no longer sell DVDs, we have other places like Walmart, Amazon and wherever else. It’s a lot like this.
It would be cool to see Toon Disney come back.
iirc, I remember saying that DVDs are the superior piece of media. If I haven't, oh well. But still, this is just proving that DVDs are the best option!
USB port can be useful to pass all of your DVDs without worrying it to have to deal with unused DVDs who are worn out
But yes DVDs can be neat to get the specific media you want.
The people outside looked from streaming to cable, and from cable to streaming, and from streaming to cable again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
schedule programming in combination with selecting what you want to play is the perfect combo
I wouldn't be surprised if Disney+ brought Toon Disney back as a channel because Disney+ has a bunch of Cartoons in there library they could show
I’m honestly leaning towards both sides of this.
Despite me only occasionally watching cable, I can see why people would be somewhat upset or glad about this.
Cinemagic, Junior, XD and Channel are rising from the dead as we speak.
I hope Disney Jr comes back like it did back in 2011 (with the classic Playhouse Disney shows that is)

You mean Disney Junior (Southeast Asia) because I heard they defuncted in few years back ago!
So that explains why every new Star Wars show is on Disney+, but not on Disney XD, and ABC Network
Disney Afternoon is back as Disney 24/7! Or it better be...
Ah Yes! I remember Disney afternoon!
I wanted this a couple of years ago w Disney this year also for re releasing epic Mickey
True. TV cable return, Inside out 2, Epic Mickey rebrushed. Its definitely a W... But the only problem is that mufasa film
Honestly if they they can allow custom channels with programming indicated by the user, it could be a really cool way to personalize background watching/autoplay. It may be crazy but perhaps some of the numerous bumpers and advertisements from Disney's archive no longer in use could be factored into the streams from the algorithm of the playing content or to the user's control (Simulated 2000s Jetix, different eras of Disney Channel, ABC/Disney Afternoon, etc).
I actually like this idea as it’s nice to pick something to let people watch something random and is a good idea as it can be a guide essentially or random button
For once in a long time, I feel happy and excited for something Disney related

1. Promotions for their other channels
2. Promotions for their TV shows
3. Trailers for their movies
and if we're lucky
4. Bumpers featuring some of the Disney characters.
i wonder if the kids channel will have back-to-back suite life followed by back-to-back wizards, like back in the day and then sprinkle in the new wizards episodes? could be a great idea honestly

"Back in time"
Disney did another Right Thing! Big W for Them! 😁
Live premiere in a streaming app isn't a stranger to Disney. With their previous itteration of a streaming app "Disney NOW", it had an option to watch any of Disney's channels that it supported (Junior, Channel, and XD) live from the app, so you can watch your show on the go anywhere while still being on the live broadcast. Disney NOW has been outclassed by Disney+ since Disney did take more steps from the time it wasn't close to a small monopoly (it can't completely buy out every competitor due to the size of the media companies that air on TV/theaters) compared to today, but this step to make a live broadcast that isn't completely linked with live television is an interesting shift of gears.
Awesome!

Looks like Disney has finally taken a W again!
Oh I absolutely support this decision. First of all, I don't really watch TV like that, I usually just listen and have it playing in the background. Ever since streaming took off I've felt that it was a bit too much. I barely know what I want to eat most days let alone what I want to watch/listen to out of hundreds of choices when a lot of them are things I actually might like. I like scheduled programing because when something good comes on it's a nice little surprise, it helps me keep track of time, and gives you something to look forward to. It'll be great to be able to watch something specific if I want, which was essentially the on demand service anyway, but still able to put on a random channel and not worry about it when I'm not focused on the tv.
When I had cable I used to record everything so those shows or movies could still be watchable although they are from a different time period and they are still with me
I think it is a good feature. People like me sometimes struggle with choosing a movie or serie, since we got soo much to choose from, so this solves a lot of time and headscratching.
Looks like Disney is finally making a comeback for the first time in five years!
BIG W!!!
I like having movies and shows on-demand, but I also like having the option to tune in and watch some live TV. These two things can coexist. Watching DVDs didn't stop me from tuning into Cartoon Network. The only reason I went with on-demand route was because these same company's cable TV channels kept targeting the lowest common denominator after reality TV blew up.
I’d like a Saturday morning cartoon scheduling, or at least allow you to make your own lineup
